Kota Kinabalu cops interrupt cockfight, nab three men

KOTA KINABALU: A group of people huddled together and cheering while watching a cockfight caught the eye of police in Kg Puun Tunoh, Penampang near here.
Those involved then ran helter-skelter when police arrived to investigate their activity.
Three foreign men, aged from 48 to 55, were arrested while four live roosters, two dead roosters and RM604 cash were seized.
Penampang OCPD Supt Sammy Newton said the raid was conducted at around 5pm on Thursday (May 8).
"We acted based on a tip-off and raided the area," he said in a statement on Friday (May 9).
He said those arrested would be investigated under the Animal Welfare Enactment 2015.
Supt Sammy said they were also hunting for the other suspects.

During the raid, police discovered a transparent plastic packet containing 50.5 grammes of crystal substance suspected to be methamphetamine (syabu). The local duo, a 55-year-old man and a 54-year-old woman, both tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine. Police also confiscated two vehicles and RM1,800 in cash during the operation. Both suspects are currently under remand for investigations. KOTA KINABALU: A husband and wife have been arrested in possession of suspected syabu (methamphetamine) during a drug raid at Kampung Nosoob in Penampang on Monday afternoon (June 30). The local couple, aged 54 and 55, were detained by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division of the Penampang district police headquarters around 4.30pm. Penampang district police chief, Supt Sammy Newton, said a search led to the discovery of a clear plastic packet containing crystal-like substances believed to be methamphetamine, weighing approximately 50.5g. Police also seized two vehicles and RM1,800 in cash. He said the street value of the seized drugs is estimated at RM2,500. 'Initial urine tests confirmed that both suspects tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine,' Newton said in a statement on Wednesday (July 2). The case is investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a mandatory death sentence or life imprisonment with at least 12 strokes of the cane if not sentenced to death. The couple is also being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the same act for drug use and is currently under remand. Newton urged the public to report any information related to drug abuse or criminal activities to the nearest police station. KOTA KINABALU (July 1): A man was placed under a two-year good behaviour bond by a Sessions Court here for committing an offence under the Animal Welfare Enactment 2015. Judge Hurman Hussain ordered Brandon Tim Tony, 23, to be placed under a RM2,000 bond with one local surety. Brandon pleaded guilty to a charge of failing to properly care for a Siberian Husky and for not monitoring or protecting it from abuse. He committed the offence at a house in Penampang on December 31, 2024. The charge carries a maximum penalty of a RM75,000 fine, a two-year jail term, or both, upon conviction. The court was informed that the dog suffered from optic nerve neuritis in its right eye due to traumatic injuries. It also sustained a cut on the forehead, a broken molar, and a severe ulcer on the right cornea.
