Honor 400 Pro review: Is this near-flagship phone worth buying?

AI FEATURES
The Honor 400 Pro goes big on AI, integrating features like AI Eraser, Face Tune, upscaling low-res images and AI cutouts into its gallery app. If you enjoy editing your photos, then it's very useful to have all these functions integrated into the Gallery app instead of using third-party apps like Snapseed. Paired with a camera array that includes a capable 200MP main lens, it also offers AI-enabled 50x zoom.
Image to video is arguably the phone's party piece. It uses Google's Veo 2 AI video engine to automatically generate five-second animated clips from photos. It takes one to two minutes to generate clips. Unlike the full-fat Veo 2 and Veo 3 engines, this version doesn't accept prompts. So, if you're dissatisfied with your results, you'll need to re-submit the photo.

Your results will vary tremendously. It produced a convincing clip of my dog "walking". Other attempts produced mixed results that ranged from curious to creepy. One animation of a family picture in a restaurant added random people walking behind us, even though we were in an enclosed booth. Our expressions and movements also appeared unnatural. Pro tip – don't try to create an animation from a passport photo, unless you enjoy scaring yourself silly.
CAMERAS
The Honor 400 Pro's rear camera array includes three lenses:

12MP Ultra Wide Camera(f/2.2)
The 200MP main camera is quite impressive, capturing detailed photos even in low light. The telephoto lens is decent though image quality does suffer at full 50X zoom. While the ultra-wide lens is useful for 0.5 selfies, images can be soft in low-light. It produces decent results in brightly-lit environments although it lacks the detail and contrast of the main lens.
PERFORMANCE
The Honor 400 Pro may use a year-old processor but it doesn't feel compromised in use. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset still posts competitive benchmark scores and has 12GB of RAM and 12GB of virtual RAM.
In daily use, it feels fast and responsive. It performs everyday tasks smoothly. Scrolling socials and videos, editing images, chats and browsing are smooth – even when multiple apps are open. Gaming performance is good. Demanding titles like PUBG: Mobile and Call of Duty are smooth, even at high graphics settings.
Honor's Magic OS 9.0 is generally fast and smooth in daily use. However, it is prone to bloatware. For instance, some pre-installed apps and services like Honor Docs duplicate more popular apps, though these can be uninstalled or disabled.
DISPLAY
Its 6.7 inch Amoled display, has a 2,800 x 1,280 resolution and up to 120Hz refresh rate. It offers deep blacks and rich, vibrant colours and supports HDR10+. This makes it outstanding for viewing video content on supported apps like Prime Video and YouTube.
BATTERY LIFE
The Honor 400 Pro's 6,000mAh silicon-carbon battery easily offers enough power for an entire day of use. After about one-and-a-half days of use, I had about 30 per cent of battery life remaining. This included this included four to five hours of surfing, listening to music and watching videos.

Infosys raises annual revenue forecast on financial services boost
BENGALURU :India's No.2 IT services provider Infosys raised the floor of its annual revenue forecast on Wednesday after reporting stronger-than-expected quarterly sales, as its financial services segment got a fillip from AI deals and market-share gains. The Bengaluru-based company narrowed its revenue growth forecast to 1 per cent to 3 per cent from a prior range of flat to 3 per cent, in line with analysts' expectations. Global interest rate cuts by central banks could boost India's $283-billion IT industry, where the banking and financial services segment contributes about a third of total revenue. "We have seen a lot of the discussions on the economy worldwide coming to a more stable situation but it is not fully settled," said Salil Parekh, CEO of Infosys. The company is seeing "strong traction" in financial services segment, Parekh said in a post-earnings conference, adding that logistics and manufacturing orders were being hit by the macroeconomic environment. Infosys' consolidated sales rose 7.5 per cent year-on-year to 422.79 billion rupees ($4.9 billion) in the June quarter, while analysts, on average, had expected revenue of 418.06 billion rupees, as per data compiled by LSEG. "Infosys has done better on revenue front compared to its larger rival Tata Consultancy Services. The outperformance is due to solid deals won in the previous quarters," said Ambrish Shah, an analyst at Systematix. Revenue from the firm's financial services segment rose for the fifth consecutive quarter, helped by marquee deal wins including Bank of Sydney, Metro Bank, and AIB. The IT firm's net profit rose 8.7 per cent in the three-month period to 69.21 billion rupees, mainly due to lower depreciation and communication expenses. Analysts had expected 67.55 billion rupees of profit, as per data compiled by LSEG. Net new bookings rose $3.8 billion during the quarter, compared with $2.6 billion in the previous quarter and $4.1 billion in the year-ago period. Earlier this month, IT industry bellwether TCS missed revenue estimates and flagged delays in decision making and project starts. Smaller rivals and Tech Mahindra have fared better than large rivals.

SOTA parent portal taken down in response to systems vulnerability targeted by global cyberattacks
SINGAPORE: The School of the Arts (SOTA) has taken down its parent portal to address a vulnerability that it said is the target of a global cyberattack campaign. In a message to parents on Wednesday (Jul 23) morning, SOTA said the cyberattacks started around Jul 18 and are specifically targeted at school-managed systems. "To safeguard our systems and data against this critical threat, we are initiating an immediate and mandatory patching process for all school-managed servers that support our parent portal," said SOTA in its message. The school said it had identified the vulnerability in the third-party server infrastructure supporting the portal and that the third-party service provider has acknowledged such reports from their server customers. It added that it is working to complete the patching and restore full service safely as soon as possible, and will inform parents when the portal is back up. A CNA check on the SOTA website on Wednesday afternoon showed that the school's student and staff portals appear to have been taken offline as well. The global cyberattack campaign has already compromised organisations globally, including government agencies and multinational corporations, said SOTA. The school did not name the third-party service provider. However, this comes after the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA) issued an alert on Tuesday for users of Microsoft SharePoint to update to the latest version, citing "critical vulnerabilities". On the same day, Microsoft issued a threat intelligence note warning of active attacks targeting SharePoint servers via known vulnerabilities. It said security updates have been released to address the flaws. The note linked the attacks to three China-based groups, and added that investigations into other threat actors are ongoing.
