Progressive Regulation and Zero Tax Policy Drive UAE's $34 Billion Crypto Boom
According to a new report by a leading provider of blockchain and Bitcoin solutions, Mining Grid – the UAE received $34 billion (AED124B) in crypto inflows between July 2023 and June 2024, recording a 42% YoY growth rate. This surge places the UAE as a key player in the global crypto ecosystem, with over 500,000 daily crypto traders now active in the country. The Middle East attracted $338.7 billion in crypto inflows during the same period, marking an 11.73% YoY increase and securing its position as the 7th largest crypto market globally. Over 93% of that volume came from institutional-sized transfers, highlighting a maturing market driven by long-term strategies rather than speculation.
Youth adoption has become a defining characteristic of the UAE's crypto landscape. With over 74% of young adults aged 25-34 showing active interest in cryptocurrency, and 21% planning to trade crypto within the next 12 months, the country leads regional participation in youth-driven digital finance. Social platforms including TikTok, WhatsApp, and YouTube have become primary discovery channels for this demographic, fostering a socially connected generation pursuing financial independence through digital assets.
Growth brings challenges, with nearly half of young crypto users concerned about misinformation – opening the door for trusted platforms to lead in education and responsible adoption.
Solaiman AlRifai, Founder & Board member, Mining Grid said, 'The UAE's clear regulations and zero capital gains tax have created the perfect environment for crypto growth. With an engaged and forward-looking population, it's no surprise the country is now seen as the crypto capital of the Arab world.'
Regional neighbours are following suit with their own approaches. Saudi Arabia recorded remarkable 153% growth and leads GCC countries in youth crypto adoption rates. Oman has taken a sustainability-focused path, investing over $1.1 billion in green mining infrastructure to position itself as a hub for environmentally conscious crypto mining operations.
Rami Alsridi, Founder and CEO, Mining Grid said, 'The UAE has created the ideal environment where curiosity meets clarity. We're seeing a new generation that doesn't just want to invest in crypto but wants to understand it, build with it, and lead its next chapter. We're also witnessing a surge in Bitcoin mining, driven by demand for decentralization, transparency, and energy-conscious innovation.'
Bitcoin maintains market dominance while Ethereum's ecosystem resilience keeps digital assets in the spotlight. Stablecoins have become a cornerstone of regional value transfer, now comprising 66% of all on-chain transactions. The tokenization of real-world assets, including real estate and bonds, is driving new waves of institutional interest across the region.
Mining Grid, which serves over 60,000 users globally with a physical presence in the UAE, has played a pivotal role in accelerating regional crypto adoption through accessible and energy-efficient mining solutions. The company's approach addresses traditional concerns about Bitcoin mining's energy demands by reimagining it as an infrastructure opportunity aligned with regional sustainability goals.
Looking toward 2026, analysts from Mining Grid project that youth-led crypto accounts will become the largest new onboarding segment in the region by Q4 2025 and Gulf countries are expected to continue exploring sustainable crypto mining practices. The report anticipates continued growth in mobile-first, gamified crypto platforms, increased institutional participation in tokenised assets, and accelerated adoption of clean-energy-backed mining models across the Middle East.

Your Bazaar sonic identity: A gold-winning sound for a new kind of marketplace
WithFeeling partnered with Your Bazaar to craft a sonic identity that stood out in the crowded UAE e-commerce space – something vibrant, cross-cultural and unmissable on radio. The brief was simple: make it memorable. But in a market as diverse as the UAE, where multiple languages and listening habits collide, familiarity was key. So, WithFeeling did something unexpected: they reimagined the most recognisable melody in the world. By adapting the final phrase of 'Happy Birthday' – which is out of copyright – WithFeeling matched the brand's six-syllable name – 'your-baz-aar-dot-ae' – to a tune everyone knows. The result was a jingle that felt instantly familiar yet cleverly fresh. Listeners didn't always clock the reference immediately – which made it all the more memorable. It sparked curiosity, made people smile and helped the brand stay top of mind without them even trying. But it didn't stop there. WithFeeling designed a suite of supporting sonic cues to reinforce the product experience: CLICK CLICK – effortless browsing – effortless browsing DING DONG – doorstep delivery – doorstep delivery KA CHING – secure transactions and opportunity Each sound effect was tightly tied to the Your Bazaar brand promise and designed to work across a wide range of touchpoints – from mobile app alerts and onboarding videos to TikTok ads and radio stings. These weren't just audio garnishes. They were tactical, hardworking assets that delivered brand consistency wherever sound was heard. View this post on Instagram A post shared by WithFeeling (@withfeelingofficial) Adaptability was also baked in. The same melody flexes to local markets with regional endings – '.ae', '.sa', '.om' and '.qa' – making localisation quick, simple and effective without compromising the core sonic identity. To ensure the work performed, WithFeeling tested the assets internally and externally using Veritonic analytics. The results showed strong attribution, high recall and an uplift in perceived brand warmth and trust. The identity also resonated across diverse audience groups – a key factor in its effectiveness. The campaign didn't just work in theory. It performed in the real world. The jingle is now heard in taxis, TikToks, YouTube bumpers, and streaming platforms – wherever the audience lives and listens. It's recognisable, joyful and culturally smart – and earned Gold at the Transform Awards MEA 2025 for Best Use of Audio Branding. More than just a jingle, Your Bazaar now has a sound it can own. One that makes people feel something – and act on it.

Vitalik Buterin advocates ‘copyleft' licensing in crypto
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has encouraged the crypto industry to adopt 'copyleft' open-source licenses amid concerns the industry is losing touch with its collaborative roots. In a newly released blog on Monday, Buterin said he was previously a fan of a 'permissive approach' to software licensing, which enables the free sharing with everyone, but has now started to favor a 'copyleft' approach. There is a subtle difference between the two. Permissive licenses allow the public to freely modify or distribute source code files. Copyleft licenses do the same, but require the user to also open-source any derivative work using the original code. 'I generally philosophically dislike copyright and patents,' Buterin said. Buterin shifts to copyleft open-source licenses 'I dislike the idea that two people privately sharing bits of data between each other can be perceived as committing a crime against a third party whom they are not touching or even communicating with,' he added. Buterin said he was warming to 'copyleft' because open source has become mainstream, and 'nudging enterprises toward it is much more practical.' However, he recognizes potential downsides in the 'copyleft' approach in that it can be too restrictive or coercive, especially in cases where code isn't publicly distributed but still has to be shared. Why I used to prefer permissive licenses and now favor copylefthttps:// — (@VitalikButerin) July 7, 2025 Copyleft in the crypto space Buterin highlighted how the crypto space has changed, becoming more competitive and less cooperative, which weakens the old open-source ideal of people sharing code voluntarily. 'The crypto space in particular has become more competitive and mercenary, and we are less able than before to count on people open-sourcing their work purely out of niceness.' He said voluntary sharing is no longer enough and must be accompanied by the 'hard power' of giving access to some code only to those who open up theirs. He added that copyleft licensing in crypto forces reciprocity, ensuring that innovation benefits the whole community, not just a few closed-source actors. He concluded that copyleft creates a 'large pool of code,' or other creative products, which can only legally be used if users are willing to share the source code of anything they build on it. 'Hence, copyleft can be viewed as a very broad-based and neutral way of incentivizing more diffusion, getting the benefits of policies like the above without many of their downsides.' Incentivizing open source is most valuable when it's neither unrealistic nor guaranteed, Buterin said, adding that the benefits of copyleft are much greater today than they were 15 years ago. Crypto venture capitalist Adam Cochran concurred, writing, 'There's some practical edge cases where copyleft is problematic, but overall agree with the philosophy.' Source:

Crypto funds post $1B inflows with net assets breaking new highs
Cryptocurrency investment products clocked another week of inflows last week, even as volatility persisted across major digital assets, including Bitcoin and Ether. Global crypto exchange-traded products (ETPs) recorded $1.04 billion of inflows for the trading week ended Friday, CoinShares reported on Monday. With the fresh inflows, crypto ETPs continued breaking year-to-date (YTD) inflow records, setting a new historical high just under $19 billion, said CoinShares' head of research, James Butterfill. Assets under management (AUM) in crypto ETPs reached $188 billion, up from last week's $184.4 billion, marking another new high. Bitcoin leads inflows with $790 million Bitcoin ETPs led the way last week, posting $790 million of inflows, or 76% of total crypto ETP inflows last week. BTC ETP inflows slowed from the previous three weeks, which averaged $1.5 billion of inflows weekly, Butterfill noted. 'The moderation in inflows suggests that investors are becoming more cautious as Bitcoin approaches its all-time high price levels,' he wrote. Shift to Ether ETFs? Ether ETPs followed with $225 million of inflows, marking an 11th consecutive week of inflows. 'On a proportional basis, weekly inflows during this run have averaged 1.6% of AUM, significantly higher than Bitcoin's 0.8%,' Butterfill observed, suggesting that there has been a 'notable shift in investor sentiment in favour of Ethereum.' The majority of crypto inflows last week were handled through BlackRock's crypto funds, which saw $436 million in inflows, or 42% of all last week's inflows by issuers. US tops inflows despite the July 4 break Regionally, crypto ETP inflows remained largely concentrated in the United States, even though US stock markets were closed on Friday in observance of the July 4th Independence Day holiday. According to CoinShares, the US led with $1 billion in inflows, while Germany and Switzerland followed with$38.5 million and $33.7 million, respectively. On the other hand, sentiment remained weak in countries like Canada and Brazil, which saw outflows of $29.3 million and $9.7 million, respectively. Canada's weak sentiment came despite the Canadian issuer 3iQ launching the spot XRP exchange-traded fund on the Toronto Stock Exchange in mid-June. 'Greed' sentiment strong amid volatility spike While Bitcoin ETPs experienced a slowdown in inflows, the overall sentiment on the market remained bullish last week. According to data from the Cryptocurrency Fear & Greed Index was firmly in 'Greed' last week, with a score of 66. The sentiment remained positive despite significant volatility in Bitcoin, which saw its price drop to as low as $105,400 last Tuesday and subsequently surged above $110,000 last Thursday, according to CoinGecko data. Following Bitcoin's trend, the Ether price also briefly tumbled below $2,400 last Tuesday and then surged above $2,620 on July 3. Source:
