Dozens flee hospital as flash flooding hits Spain
Seventy-one patients were evacuated from Penedès Regional Hospital near Barcelona after a wall collapsed and the electricity supply was cut off due to the severe weather.
Emergency services launched a search operation in Cubelles for a woman and child reportedly swept away by floodwater in the swollen Foix river.
Barcelona recorded 155mm of rain in just a few hours on Saturday, with footage showing vehicles submerged and swept away by overflowing rivers.
The severe weather, caused by a DANA (High-level Isolated Depression), prompted 1,200 emergency calls and the deployment of Spain's Military Emergency Unit for disaster relief.

MADRID, July 14 (Reuters) - High temperatures caused 1,180 deaths in Spain in the past two months, a sharp increase from the same period last year, the Environment Ministry said on Monday. The vast majority of people who died were over 65 and more than half were women, the data it cited showed. The most affected regions were Galicia, La Rioja, Asturias and Cantabria - all located in the northern half of the country, where traditionally cooler summer temperatures have seen a significant rise in recent years. Like other countries in Western Europe, Spain has been hit by extreme heat in recent weeks, with temperatures often topping 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit). The 1,180 people who died of heat-related causes between May 16 and July 13 compared with 114 in the same period in 2024, the ministry said in a statement citing data from the Carlos III Health Institute. The number of deaths increased significantly in the first week in July. The data shows an event "of exceptional intensity, characterized by an unprecedented increase in average temperatures and a significant increase in mortality attributable to heatwaves", the ministry said. In the period the data covers, there were 76 red alerts for extreme heat, compared with none a year earlier. Last summer, 2,191 deaths were attributed to heat-related causes in Spain, according to data from the Carlos III Health Institute. The data from Spain follows a rapid scientific analysis published on July 9 that said around 2,300 people died of heat-related causes across 12 European cities during a severe heatwave in the 10 days to July 2. It was not immediately clear whether the study conducted by scientists at Imperial College London and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine was using the same methodology as the Spanish data. Large grass fire breaks out on Romney Marsh
A large grass fire has broken out in a rural part of Kent, a fire service has Fire & Rescue Service reported at 16:30 BST on Monday that it had four crews in attendance at the blaze in Dungeness Road on Romney crews are using a fogging unit and a high pressure hose reel jet in an effort to extinguish the flames, the service said. A spokesperson said: "People living or travelling near this area are being advised to close windows and doors due to a large plume of smoke."

Large sinkhole opens up in middle of road near Clapham Common
A large sinkhole has opened up near Clapham Common following a burst pipe, causing extensive flooding. Emergency services have sealed off a section of Clapham Park Road in southwest London following the explosion of a pipe, according to Thames Water. They said in a statement that it will be 'difficult' to repair the road due to the size of the burst pipe. Photos published by the water company showed a large section of the road broken off and submerged under water. A second photo showed a significant portion of the road flooded, with fire engines positioned by the flooding. 'We're very sorry if you're affected by road closures at Clapham Park Road, SW4,' Thames Water wrote in a statement. 'We're currently dealing with a burst pipe which caused a large amount of flooding to the area. 'To keep the public and our team safe, we've set up traffic lights while we work in the road. Sorry for the impact this may have on traffic in the area, and any delays to your journey 'Due to the size of the pipe and it's location this is going to be a difficult repair. We've now controlled the flow of water from the burst pipe, and a specialist team have carried out investigations to confirm the road surface is safe for us to continue with the repair. 'As soon as we confirm this we'll then dig down to the damaged section of pipe and decide how best to fix it. 'You shouldn't notice any changes to your water supply whilst we carry out these emergency repairs and we'll continue to update you as we work to get this resolved as quickly as possible. 'As soon as we know more, we'll be back with an update.'
