Coles scores 22, second-seeded Grand Canyon beats No. 3-seed Cal Baptist 75-66 in WAC semifinal
PARADISE, Nev. (AP) — JaKobe Coles had 22 points in Grand Canyon's 75-66 win against Cal Baptist on Friday in the Western Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals.
The No 2-seeded Antelopes will face top-seeded Utah Valley in Saturday's championship game.
Coles shot 7 of 13 from the field, including 2 for 3 from 3-point range, and went 6 for 7 from the line for the Antelopes (25-7). Tyon Grant-Foster shot 7 for 12 (1 for 3 from 3-point range) and 3 of 4 from the free-throw line to add 18 points. Rayshon Harrison had 14 points and shot 5 of 9 from the field and 4 for 4 from the line. It was the seventh win in a row for the Antelopes.
The Lancers (17-15) were led by Dominique Daniels Jr., who posted 18 points. Tylen Riley added 14 points and three steals for Cal Baptist. Javonte Johnson finished with 12 points.
Grand Canyon took the lead with 6:13 to go in the first half and did not relinquish it. The score was 25-16 at halftime, with Harrison racking up six points. Coles' 16-point second half helped Grand Canyon close out the nine-point victory.

Iowa basketball 2025 Acrisure Series opponents set
As preparations for the 2025-26 college basketball season begin to ramp up over the summer, Iowa basketball revealed on Monday morning who its opponents will be during the 2025 Acrisure Classic in Palm Desert, Calif. Total Sports Consulting, the event's organizer, announced on Monday that Iowa will begin its two-game Acrisure Series stay against Ole Miss on Nov. 25 at 8:30 p.m. CT from Acrisure Arena in Palm Springs. Joining Iowa and Ole Miss in the Coachella Valley are Grand Canyon and Utah, who will compete against one another in the other half of Iowa's four-team bracket. Grand Canyon and Utah will battle at 11 p.m. CT on Nov. 25. If the Hawkeyes were to beat the Rebels, they would play against the winner between Grand Canyon and Utah on Nov. 26 at 8:30 p.m. CT. Otherwise, Iowa would meet the loser of that contest between the Antelopes and Utes at 11 p.m. CT. on Nov. 26. Both of Iowa's games will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network. The game against Ole Miss will be the first meeting in the all-time series between the Hawkeyes and Rebels and Iowa's first contest against an SEC opponent since facing Auburn in the 2023 NCAA Tournament. Iowa is 1-0 all-time against Grand Canyon, defeating the Lopes in the 2021 NCAA Tournament. Meanwhile, the Hawkeyes are 1-2 all-time against Utah, with both teams having squared off in each of the past two seasons. Mountain West Conference pauses expansion amid legal dispute with Pac-12
LAS VEGAS — The Mountain West Conference, in the process of going through a major membership transition, will 'pause' adding new schools, Commissioner Gloria Nevarez said Wednesday at the conference's football media days. The conference will add Grand Canyon in all sports except football beginning this year. Hawaii, which plays football in the Mountain West, will join as a full member in 2026, as will Texas-El Paso. Northern Illinois will play only football in the Mountain West and UC Davis will be a non-football member. Five schools will leave the Mountain West for the Pac-12 Conference next year — Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, San Diego State and Utah State. Both conferences are in a legal dispute about poaching fees and are headed back to court after failing to reach an agreement. 'We're going to pause right now as far as additional membership,' Nevarez said at her annual football news conference. 'Never say never, but we really want to get through our media rights negotiation, take a deep breath and then we'll readdress the issue.' Nevarez said she hoped to announce a new media deal soon. She also touched on several other topics: — The Mountain West is paying for any costs associated with adding Grand Canyon a year early. — Conference headquarters will relocate from Colorado Springs, Colorado, to Las Vegas in July 2026. The Mountain West has been in Colorado Springs since its inception in 1999. — Nevarez said the Mountain West did not support conferences receiving more than one automatic berth to the College Football Playoff.
