Ather Energy IPO: Forget GMP! THIS IIT incubation cell's ₹15 lakh bet in EV startup would become ₹50 crore gain

Ather Energy IPO: The much-awaited initial public offering (IPO) of EV startup Ather Energy is set to hit the Street on April 28, with a price band of ₹ 304 to ₹ 321 per share. But beyond investor interest and grey market premiums (GMP), Ather Energy IPO marks a significant milestone for the Indian startup ecosystem — particularly for IIT Madras' incubation efforts.
Back in 2013, when Ather Energy was in its nascent stages, the IIT Madras Incubation Cell (IITM IC) and its sister entity IITM Rural Technology and Business Incubator (RTBI) took a bold bet on the fledgling EV firm. In exchange for providing office space, mentorship, and crucial early-stage support, the incubators were allotted a 5% stake in the startup.
As per the Red Herring Prospectus (RHP) of Ather Energy IPO, IITM IC and IITM RTBI jointly held 15,58,170 shares pre-IPO. While the original 5% stake got diluted over several funding rounds, the entities still collectively hold around 0.5% stake in Ather Energy.
At the upper end of the IPO price band of ₹ 321 per share, the total value of these 15.58 lakh shares held by IITM IC and IITM RTBI would be estimated at over ₹ 50 crore, translating into a remarkable 32,000% return on investment.
IIT Madras Incubation Cell is set to offload 31,050 Ather Energy shares, while IITM Rural Technology and Business Incubator will sell 4,191 shares of the company in the Offer for Sale (OFS) component of the Ather Energy IPO. This early-stage investment is projected to generate returns exceeding ₹ 1.13 crore.
Moreover, this IPO is not just Ather Energy's stock market debut, but also the first-ever public listing for a portfolio company of the IITM Incubation Cell.
The company's shares are also available in the grey market. According to market observers, Ather Energy IPO GMP (Grey Market Premium) today is ₹ 5. This means company shares are trading at a premium of ₹ 5 much ahead of the Ather Energy IPO opening date, which is declared on April 28, 2025.
Ather Energy IPO will open for subscription on Monday, April 28, and will close on Wednesday, April 30. The IPO allotment date is likely to be May 2, and the listing date is expected to be May 6.
Ather Energy IPO price band is set at ₹ 304 to ₹ 321 per share. At the upper-end of the price band, the company plans to raise ₹ 2,980.76 crore from the public issue which is a combination of fresh issue of 8.18 crore equity shares aggregating to ₹ 2,626 crore and an OFS component of of 1.11 crore shares worth ₹ 354.76 crore.
Axis Capital, HSBC Securities & Capital Markets, JM Financial, Nomura Financial Advisory And Securities (India) are the book running lead managers of the Ather Energy IPO, while Link Intime India is the IPO registrar.

Realtors, financial firms bullish on Indian real estate growth: Report

Real estate developers and financial institutions have become more optimistic towards growth in India's property market for the next six months despite global uncertainties, according to Naredco and Knight Frank. On Tuesday, realtors' body Naredco and property consultant Knight Frank India have released the 45th edition of the 'Real Estate Sentiment Index' for April-June quarter, which showed a significant shift in the mood of the supply-side stakeholders in the Indian real estate sector. "Following a year-long moderation in sentiment, stakeholders are beginning to look beyond short-term global uncertainties and are anchoring their expectations on India's structural economic strength, accommodative monetary policy, and robust demand in premium residential and office segments," the consultant said. The Current Sentiment Score rose modestly to 56 in the April-June quarter, from 54 in the preceding January-March period, ending a four-quarter downward streak. The Future Sentiment Score climbed to 61 in April-June, from 56 a quarter ago. A score of 50 indicates a neutral outlook; scores above 50 reflect positive sentiment, while those below 50 suggest a negative outlook. The report noted that India's economic environment has become more conducive to growth and investment because of low inflation, high GST collections and reduction in interest rates. Naredco President Hari Babu said the index reflects renewed optimism in the sector. "This recovery is led by steady office leasing -- particularly by GCCs and flex operators -- and strong demand for premium housing... Developers' outlook has notably strengthened amid improved liquidity and lower borrowing costs. Backed by record GST collections, robust PMI, and monetary easing, India's real estate sector appears well positioned for sustained growth through the rest of 2025," he said. Knight Frank India CMD Shishir Baijal said the recovery in both current and future sentiment scores reflects the sector's resilience and adaptability. Decathlon aims to scale sourcing from India to $3 billion by 2030

French sports retailer Decathlon on Tuesday said it will increase sourcing of goods from India for its global operations to $3 billion by 2030. Decathlon has been sourcing from India for the last 25 years and is committed to its "Make in India" vision and its focus on local production capabilities to serve both domestic and global markets, the company said. This growth will be driven by a focused push in high-potential categories such as footwear, fitness equipment, and technical textiles, which will be designed to meet the evolving demands of both Indian consumers and global markets, it added. "Currently, India accounts for 8 per cent of Decathlon's global sourcing quantities," the French retailer in a statement, adding that the goal is to scale this to 15 per cent by 2030. For the India retail operations, Decathlon's local sourcing is over 70 per cent of the quantities sold in India in 2025. "This figure is expected to rise to 90 per cent by 2030, reinforcing the brand's focus on its local sourcing strategy," according to Decathlon. Decathlon's local production ecosystem includes a Design Centre supported by 113 manufacturing sites, 83 suppliers, and 7 production offices across India. "India has evolved into a cornerstone of Decathlon's global production ecosystem -- not just in terms of scale, but in its ability to deliver quality, innovation, and speed," Frederic Merlevede, Head of Decathlon Production said. Merlevede further noted that, "Our long-term investment in India reflects the deep trust we've built with our partners and the strong potential we see in key categories like footwear, fitness equipment, and beyond". Last year, Decathlon had announced to invest 100 million euros (around Rs 933 crore) in India, it is one of the fastest growing markets, to expand retail footprint and manufacturing operations. Decathlon currently operates 132 stores across 55 cities in India.
