Shane Gilles' opening monologue received a mixed reaction from the crowd.

Comedian Shane Gillis took aim at President Donald Trump and his Epstein files disaster during his ESPY Awards opening monologue on Wednesday. Gillis, who copped criticism during the monologue for racially charged jokes and who at once point was reportedly boo'ed by the audience, did score some laughs however after targeting the 79-year-old president. 'Donald Trump wants to stage a UFC fight on the White House lawn. The last time he staged a fight in D.C., Mike Pence almost died,' Gillis said, to a mixed response.

Beyond The Gates Recap: Martin Tells Smitty The Truth About Two Years Ago

Beyond The Gates Recap: Martin Tells Smitty The Truth About Two Years Ago originally appeared on Daytime Confidential. On today's Beyond The Gates recap: Anita and Vernon's Mansion: Anita arrives home and immediately ignores a call (Tracy?). She calls out for Vernon but gets no response. Orphey Gene's: Bill, Martin and Vernon are chatting. Martin can't believe Kenneth is dead and his nightmare is over. Bill lies and says Kenneth was at the wrong place at the wrong time and is dead. Either way, it works well for them. Vernon remembers back to a few minutes ago when he saw Malone with a gun pointed at Kenneth. Martin can't believe he almost burned his whole world to the ground. Martin grabs Bill's phone when he realizes the picture of dead Kenneth was sent to him at the perfect time. Bill tells him to focus on the two-year weight that has been lifted from his shoulders. Martin doesn't think the weigh has been lifted. Kenneth may be dead but his nightmares will remain. He won't be free until he stands in his truth. Bill wants his nephew to straighten things out with his family but thinks going public is crazy. Martin thinks he's seeing everything clearly as he looks around the room and sees Joey and suspects either Malone or the Chief of Police is in on the situation. Just then, reporters approach and ask about the cancellation of the presser. He doesn't make a comment and they are ushered out. Martin mouths off at both Bill and Vernon before storming out. Joey won't reveal any more details. He says his business is such that he can't tell her every little thing. He knows she gets turned on by the rush, but Vanessa wants to be the judge of what she can handle. Vernon is furious with Bill for not calling off his thugs. Bill shoots back that his 'self-righteous ass' heard what he wanted. Money wasn't going to fix anything and a more permanent solution was necessary. Vernon says his entire family is now an accessory to murder. Bill shoots back saying he's not that sloppy. They continue to snipe back and forth until Vernon stops him saying, 'we both know who really holds the power in this room.' With that, he exits. Vanessa pushes Joey about being his alibi. He tries to charm her but to no avail. She says she's involved with the Duprees and wants to know every dirty detail of whatever is going on. Joey tries to get out of telling her anything but Vanessa pushes. He gets close and says they disposed of a very bad man. Malone arrives and Vanessa makes a spectacle of calling him over to their table. She looks at him and says she hears the evening has been quite productive. Vanessa gets snarky with Malone and Joey about the adrenaline rush of the night's activities. She continues but Joey yells, 'ENOUGH!' Joey says if she ever brings up his business in this way again things will not end well for her. Martin and Smitty's Place: Samantha is beyond irked they are just sitting and waiting for pop. Smitty reminds her and Tyrell that their pop made a choice, and he chose to leave. Smitty's phone rings. He says it's not their pop but he still needs to take it. His boss fills Smitty in on Martin's press conference and how it was quickly cancelled. Next, Smitty gets a call from a reporter at the presser who asks about the family emergency. He knows better than to answer and quickly hangs up. Martin returns and finds his family waiting and his bags at the door. He begs Smitty to let him explain. Smitty is not trying to hear any of it and can only focus on the secrets and lies. Samantha and Tyrell are just happy their pop is home, but their dad is on a roll. Martin says he's done with the secrets and hiding. He asks the kids to leave the room, but Smitty stops him. They've all been impacted by Martin's deception and deserve to know the truth. Samantha agrees to go upstairs, and Tyrell reluctantly follows. Martin apologizes to Smitty, but he only wants to know what happened two years ago. Martin goes directly into the story. He and Vernon were at a political event. On the way back, they took a wrong turn. Flashback: Martin is driving and talking to Vernon about life on the political trail. Just then, they get a flat tire. In real-time, Martin says they were alone on a dark, deserted country road. Flashback: Martin gets out of the car and opens the trunk to get the spare tire. Just then, a car approaches and pulls up behind them. Kenneth and presumably his brother get out and size up the situation. Vernon hops out and thanks them for stopping but says their foot to go. Kenneth says they can help but not for free. He asks how much money they have. Vernon mentions calling the police to help. The brother gets too close to Martin who pulls back the tire iron as if to strike him. The brother says, 'let's see what color's your money.' Kenneth goes for Vernon while the brother goes after Martin. Kenneth pulls a gun and Martin knocks him to the ground with the tire iron. The brother comes for him and Martin knocks him down, as well. Martin then jumps on top of the brother and beats him until blood splatters all over his shirt. Vernon begs him to stop and then pulls him off. Vernon reaches down and says the brother is dead and Kenneth is unconscious. In real-time, Smitty is in shock but Martin says there's more. He isn't even certain what happened afterwards as he was in shock. Smitty begs him not to shut down now. Martin says his grandfather knew who to call to make everything disappear. Smitty knows he means Malone. Martin confirms and says he showed up with Chief Hawthorne right behind him. His grandfather told the Chief to get him out of there and he drove him home, which is when Smitty saw him in a disheveled state. Smitty knew something serious had gone down. Martin says he was in his grandfather's clothes because there was so much blood. He admits he killed a man, snuffing his life out like it was nothing. He continues to see what he did to Kenneth's face in his nightmares. Smitty asks about the dead body and the witness to the crime. He asks if Martin was a part of the cover up. Martin says he went along with all of it, even when Joey was brought in. Smitty realizes that's when Malone's bank account blew up. Martin explains his rage. When he saw the white man lay hands on his grandfather, he couldn't control himself. The rage exploded against the situation and the hatred of those two men. Smitty is in tears as he can't believe Martin has lived with this much pain for so long. With that, the two embrace. Martin asks if Smitty wants to hear the rest and he says yes. Martin says Kenneth was one of the two men. He just found out Ted was called in for the plastic surgery and Kenneth was given money to start a new life overseas. He always worried Kenneth would return and he did, weeks ago. Martin explains he was working at the country club but he didn't realize who he was, until Kenneth made contact. Smitty begins to breathe like a bull when he realizes Martin kept quiet despite the danger looming over their father. Martin says granddad insisted but Smitty isn't hearing it. He is beside himself knowing how Martin's inaction kept them in all kinds of danger as they walked around oblivious. Smitty reminds Martin of how he held him through every nightmare and begged to be let in. Even so, Martin should have told him immediately when Kenneth returned. Smitty says he should have protected them but he failed. Anita and Vernon's Mansion: Vernon arrives home and is thrilled to find Anita waiting for him. She can tell something is wrong and asks him to tell her everything. Vernon is evasive asking all kinds of questions about Chicago. Anita stops him dead as she wants to know what is going on. Fairmont Country Club: Bill is drinking when Dani approaches. Previous Beyond The Gates Recap: Endings Vanessa wants to leave but Joey holds her there until he checks in with Malone. Afterwards, Joey grabs Vanessa and the two get all kinds of dangerous in public. Dani and Bill drink together and she asks what's wrong. After they go back and forth a bit, Bill admits her daddy raked him over the coals. Dani says if her father gave it to him hard then he knew Bill could take it. Further, she thinks Bill and her father compliment each other but he disagrees. Vernon tells Anita the night from two years ago has all come back, and Martin is drowning. Martin admits the worst choice he made through the last two years was not being honest with him. Smitty believes him and is horrified by what his husband experienced. He can even understand Martin maintaining the lie until a few weeks ago. His loyalty should have been to his family. Smitty looks upstairs towards the children and tells Martin he needs to go as he is a danger to the family. They argue back and forth until Martin admits Kenneth is dead.
