Two militants arrested, explosives recovered in Manipur
During search operations, arms and explosives were recovered from various parts of Chandel district, a senior officer said.
A woman cadre of the banned Prepak (PRO) was apprehended from the Salungpham area in Thoubal on Saturday (July 5, 2025), while another member of the outfit was held from the Nagamapal area in Imphal West district, he said.
Intelligence-based search operations and cordons are being widely carried out to apprehend those involved in extortion and criminal activities in the State, the officer said.
Security forces recovered arms and ammunition from different locations in Chandel district on Friday (July 4, 2025), he said.
The seized items include 12 rifles, four IEDs and four grenades, the officer said.
Security forces have been conducting search operations in Manipur since ethnic violence broke out two years ago.
More than 260 people have been killed and thousands rendered homeless in ethnic violence between Meiteis and Kuki-Zo groups since May 2023.
The Centre had on February 13 imposed the President's rule in Manipur after Chief Minister N. Biren Singh resigned.
The State Assembly, which has a tenure till 2027, has been put under suspended animation.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is scheduled to visit New Delhi for two days on Monday and Tuesday (July 7 and 8) to hold key discussions with Union ministers regarding clearances for several pending infrastructure and development projects. During his visit, the Chief Minister is expected to pitch for speedy approval of the Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-II project. Apart from project-related meetings, the Chief Minister is also likely to invite the Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi for the public meeting planned on July 14 to launch the distribution of new ration cards. The meeting is being held at Tungaturthy in Suryapet district to give new ration cards extending food security benefits to more families. Sources in the Chief Minister's Office said he may meet several other Union ministers though nothing has been finalised so far. The Chief Minister is scheduled to leave Hyderabad after participating in the Vana Mahotsavam programme on Monday. Only officials will accompany the Chief Minister and there is no confirmation on his Cabinet colleagues joining him.

Muharram processions conclude peacefully in Kashmir amid concern over ‘detention' of Shia mourners
Amid detentions of Shia mourners over alleged 'violations' in Srinagar, processions were carried out across Kashmir on Sunday (July 6, 2025) to mark Youm-e-Ashura, the 10th day of the Islamic holy month of Muharram. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, National Conference (NC) patron Dr. Farooq Abdullah, and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ravinder Raina joined Shia Muslims in Srinagar for the occasion. The Jammu and Kashmir Police had filed a First Information Report (FIR) against some mourners, alleging attempts to 'provoke unrest and disturb public order' during a procession on July 4. 'These actions were intended to provoke unrest, disturb public order, and disrupt communal harmony, posing a serious threat to the security and integrity of the nation,' the police said in a statement. The past week witnessed tension between mourners and the police over banners displaying pro-Palestine imagery and portraits of Hezbollah leader Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah and Iranian military commander Qasem Soleimani. Police have not disclosed the number of persons detained or subsequently released in connection with the incident. Himachal CM urges Centre to explore feasibility of opening Shipki-La route for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra
SHIMLA: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Sunday urged the Centre to explore the feasibility of opening the Shipki-La route in the state for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the chief minister mentioned that Shipki-La region has served as a vital Indo-Tibetan trade route, predating modern borders. He said that it has also been a cultural corridor for Tibetan Buddhism and ancient pilgrimage paths reflecting India's enduring civilizational ties to Kailash and Mansarovar. "Kinnaur region of Himachal Pradesh being semi-arid and situated in a rain shadow zone like Spiti, is less prone to monsoon disruptions which keeps the route accessible for most of the year. "The path from Shipki-La via Gartok towards Darchen and Mansarovar is comparatively shorter on the Tibetan side. Shipki-La also offers a more stable and unambiguous corridor, making it well suited as a long-term, dependable corridor for pilgrimage and cross-border connectivity," he said.
