Amazon Is Developing a WOLFENSTEIN TV Series From FALLOUT and WESTWORLD Producers — GeekTyrant

Geek Tyrant2 days ago
The world of Wolfenstein is coming to life on the small screen thanks to Amazon MGM Studios, which is developing a TV series based on the legendary video game franchise, and fans of alternate-history Nazi-slaying adventures should be very excited.
Details about the plot are still under wraps, but the official logline reads: 'The story of killing Nazis is evergreen.' That perfectly sums up what makes Wolfenstein such an enduring and thrilling property.
The series will be spearheaded by Patrick Somerville, who will serve as creator, writer, executive producer, and showrunner under his chaoticgood.tv banner. Somerville has an impressive track record in genre-bending TV, having created Maniac for Netflix and the critically acclaimed Station Eleven for HBO Max. He also wrote for The Leftovers .
Backing him up are Jonathan Nolan, Lisa Joy, and Athena Wickham of Kilter Films, the same powerhouse team behind Amazon's hit Fallout series and HBO's Westworld . They'll executive produce alongside James Altman of Keyframe Films and Jerk Gustafsson from Wolfenstein developer MachineGames.
The Wolfenstein franchise is a cornerstone of gaming history, helping define the first-person shooter genre. The games follow U.S. soldier William 'B.J.' Blazkowicz as he infiltrates Nazi strongholds during World War II only to uncover their twisted experiments, occult rituals, and attempts to reshape reality.
The series began with Castle Wolfenstein in 1981 as a top-down adventure, but it exploded in popularity with Wolfenstein 3D in 1992, which set the standard for FPS games. Since then, there have been 14 titles in the franchise, including the most recent VR experience, Wolfenstein: Cyberpilot . The franchise is currently developed by MachineGames and published by Bethesda Softworks.
A Wolfenstein movie was announced back in 2012 but nothing ever happened with it. Now, this series will, hopefully, give fans the adaptation they've been waiting for.
If this moves forward, Wolfenstein will join Amazon's growing lineup of video game adaptations. Kilter Films is already riding high with Fallout , which is set to launch its second season in December and has a third season locked in.
Meanwhile, Amazon is building out its gaming universe with projects based on Mass Effect , God of War , and Warhammer 40,000 with Henry Cavill.
As for Somerville, he's a longtime fan of the games, he brings a unique creative edge and a love for immersive storytelling. In addition to his TV credits, he's a published novelist with works like The Cradle and The Bright River .
No word yet on casting or a release date, but this has the potential to be something truly badass.

‘Wizard of Oz' blown up by AI for giant Sphere screen

The massive Las Vegas venue known as Sphere will be screening its first classic movie, 'The Wizard of Oz,' starting on August 28. And as detailed in a segment on CBS Sunday Morning, this isn't just a matter of taking the existing movie and projecting it on Sphere's 160,000 square foot, wraparound LED screen. Instead, Sphere Entertainment CEO James Dolan said a 2,000-person team is creating a new experience. That includes using AI to both increase the resolution of the existing film and expand the footage beyond the frame of what was actually shot. For example, Turner Classic Movie presenter Ben Mankiewicz said that through the use of AI, 'a grainy close-up of Dorothy becomes richly detailed, and then through a process called outpainting — though it seems like magic — we see the rest of the Scarecrow, the Yellow Brick Road, and the mountains of Oz.' In other cases, expanding the frame means creating new performances from the existing actors. Despite these changes, Dolan said, 'Our standard on this was not to modify the film at all but to try and bring you into the film, as if you were in the studio when it was shot.'
