"During my 17 months as Health Minister, I had initiated the process of increasing the incentive amount for ASHA and Mamta workers, which was in its final stage, but by then, the government and the Chief Minister, as usual, backtracked. This incompetent NDA government has been sitting on it for two years. Finally, they had to bow down to our demand to increase the incentive amount for ASHA and Mamta workers," Yadav, who is also the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Bihar legislative assembly, posted on X.

He criticised the Nitish Kumar government for failing to implement the proposal in its entirety, saying that the workers must receive an honorarium instead of a mere incentive amount.
"Here, the government has cunningly not fully implemented our demand. They should receive an honorarium, not just an incentive amount. We will ensure they get an honorarium," Yadav said, adding, "This government will have no choice but to accept our demand to increase the honorarium for Anganwadi workers/assistants and cooks as well."

ASHA Workers' honorarium was increased from Rs 1,000 to Rs 3,000, while Mamta Workers' honorarium was increased from Rs 300 to Rs 600 per delivery. Stressing the state government's commitment to strengthening healthcare since 2005, Nitish said the increased incentives will boost the morale of frontline workers and further enhance health services in villages.
Bihar elections
are expected to be held later this year, in October or November; however, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has not announced an official date.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the BJP-led NDA parliamentary party meeting on Tuesday, a get-together of the ruling alliance's MPs which is being held after a considerable gap. If the Opposition also names a candidate, a distinct possibility, then the poll is scheduled to be held on September 9. Since the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, when the BJP lost its majority but comfortably crossed the halfway mark with allies, the sessional meeting of the party's MPs was expanded to include its allies. PM Modi had addressed the first such meeting on July 2. However, no meeting has been held in the last few sessions. Before the last national elections, he used to address the weekly meetings of BJP parliamentary party, now expanded to include party's allies such as the TDP, JD(U), and LJP (Ram Vilas). The meeting is attended by MPs of the ruling alliance, and PM Modi often covers a sweep of political and governance issues, and at times touches on the government's agenda in Parliament. He often offers to the MPs talking points to be raised in public, especially their constituencies.

Patna: In a political slugfest, the opposition Grand Alliance on Monday accused the Nitish Kumar govt of copying their schemes and implementing it as its own in Bihar for votes. The ruling JD(U) questioned the RJD over nominating outsiders like Sanjay Yadav from Haryana to the Rajya Sabha from Bihar quota. CM Nitish Kumar on Monday announced domicile policy in the appointment of teachers in the state. The teacher aspirants had been demanding domicile policy in Bihar and threatened the govt with the slogan of 'No domicile, no vote' in the assembly elections due in Bihar later this year. Student leader Dilip said this is the victory of students. "Heartfelt thanks to the CM of Bihar," he said. But RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, in a sarcastic post on X wrote: "It is a matter of immense happiness that the ideologically bankrupt NDA govt, which used to outright reject our demand for implementing the domicile policy in Bihar, is copying our announcement like our other schemes. Nitish Kumar announces domicile policy, new welfare schemes in Bihar
In poll-bound Bihar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday (August 4, 2025) announced yet another sop for the implementation of a domicile policy for the recruitment of teachers across the State. Earlier, ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, Mr. Kumar had announced a slew of SOPs aimed at the welfare of the poor and marginalised sections of society. 'Since forming the government in November 2005, we have been consistently working to improve the education system. To strengthen it, a large number of teachers have been appointed', Mr. Kumar said in a social media post. He added, 'The Education Department has been instructed to amend the relevant rules to give preference to domiciles of Bihar in teachers' appointments. This will be implemented from TRE-4 (Teachers Recruitment Exam-4) onwards. TRE-4 will be conducted in 2025, and TRE-5 will be held in 2026. The STET (Secondary Teacher Eligibility Test) will be held before TRE-5', announced Mr. Kumar in the post in Hindi, apparently, keeping in view of the upcoming Assembly elections scheduled for October-November later this year. With the introduction of this policy, only candidates who are residents of Bihar will be eligible to apply for teaching positions in government schools. Slew of schemes Of late, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has announced a number of schemes for the welfare of the poor and marginalised sections of society, including the constitution of a commission for the all-round socio-economic upliftment of sanitation workers, implementation of a scheme to provide 125 units of free electricity to around 1.86 crore consumers, and an increase in the State's journalist pension scheme from ₹6,000 to ₹15,000 per month. Salaries and honorariums have also been increased for grassroots public service providers like ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activists) workers now receive a monthly increase from ₹1,000 to ₹3,000, and Mamata workers, who assist in childbirth at government health facilities, now receive an increase for each delivery from ₹300 to ₹600. Similarly, the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government in Bihar has doubled the monthly honorarium for midday meal cooks in government schools from ₹1,650 to ₹3,300. Physical education and health instructors have also seen their monthly pay raised from ₹8,000 to ₹16,000. Earlier, on July 3, the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government's Cabinet approved the Mukhyamantri Kalakar Pension Yojana (Chief Minister Artiste Pension Scheme), granting ₹3,000 per month to financially distressed senior artistes who have contributed to Bihar's cultural life. Several other welfare schemes for different segments of the population have also been announced recently by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. Post-poll leadership The BJP-led ruling NDA leadership has stated that it will contest the upcoming Bihar Assembly polls under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's leadership. However, Opposition party leaders have allegedly questioned, 'Why is the NDA shying away from announcing that Mr. Kumar will remain Chief Minister after the polls?' Party insiders in the BJP told The Hindu that this time 'it would be a golden opportunity for the party to have its own Chief Minister, and the party has been gearing up for this at full throttle.' An Opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader, speaking on condition of anonymity, predicted, 'Let Mr. Kumar announce welfare schemes; he will not be the Chief Minister of the State after the elections.'
