Chappell Roan is dragged by her very long HAIR in NYC... but all is not what it seems
Chappell Roan startled fans on Tuesday afternoon as she was seen being 'dragged' down the streets by a taxi cab after getting her hair caught in the car door. But the horrifying scene was all fiction as the Grammy-winning singer, 27, is currently shooting a wild new music video in New York City. Roan showed off her acting chops as she let out a dramatic scream for the cameras while pretending to be in peril. She rocked at least six feet of curly red hair extensions which were attached to the cab's right passenger side to make it look as though the door had accidentally shut on her hair. In between takes, the Pink Pony Club hitmaker — who recently showed off her 'normal' bikini body — was forced to lay down on the NYC asphalt as the crew worked around her. While it's yet to be announced which song the video is for, many of Roan's diehard fans speculate that it's for her long-awaited single 'The Subway.' Along with her dramatic, Rapunzel-inspired hair extensions, Roan also rocked a funky costume for Tuesday's video shoot. The petite singer modeled an oversized gray tweed suit, which was styled with a baggy white dress shirt and a striped blue necktie. Instead of her signature white face paint, Roan opted for a more natural makeup look as she rocked a matte mauve lip, defined brows and a soft smokey eye. Fans have been eager for new music from Roan since the release of her country track The Giver back in March. It was the highly-anticipated follow-up to her Grammy nominated hit Good Luck, Babe! which was released in February 2024. Her debut album, The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess, premiered in 2023 and showed off Roan's affinity for drag aesthetic and punchy feminist lyrics. The album and the success of Good Luck, Babe! helped earn the Missouri-born star the Grammy Award for Best New Artist at the 2025 ceremony. But along with her successes, Roan has also faced her fair share of backlash since catapulting to superstardom less than two years ago. She rocked at least six feet of curly red hair extensions which were attached to the cab's right passenger side to make it look as though the door had accidentally shut on her hair While it's yet to be announced which song the video is for, many of Roan's diehard fans speculate that it's for her long-awaited single 'The Subway' Most recently, the singer ignited a generational divide when she said on Alex Cooper's Call Her Daddy podcast: 'I don't know a single person who is happy and has children at this age.' Roan, who identifies as a lesbian, was asked by host Cooper if she would ever have children. She answered unequivocally: 'All of my friends who have kids are in hell. I don't know anyone who's happy and has children at this age.' The star reiterated, 'I have not met anyone who is happy, anyone who has light in their eyes, anyone who has slept [who has a child under five].' The remarks prompted a fiery debate online. Some moms insisted it 'was not an accurate or healthy message to peddle, particularly when the birth rate is down.' One person wrote: 'Chappell Roan going on Call Her Daddy saying none of her friends with kids are happy, is a prime example of why you cannot just vent to anyone.' Someone else wished, 'May the friendship of narcissistic childless women with no sense of loyalty ever find me.' Meanwhile, others related to Chappell's statements, with one person weighing in: 'The people who have made me most scared to become a mother are mothers. 'What Chappell said is all I see because lots of mothers I see are like, "This is miserable" and mothers can also be the most competitive, nasty and judgmental people.' Chappell also famously made headlines this past September for furiously snapping back at a red carpet photographer at the MTV Video Music Awards. The exchange began when a male photographer off-camera was heard apparently shouting that someone needed to 'turn.' At some point, a photographer was heard shouting: 'Shut the f*** up,' to which Chappell turned and bellowed back: 'YOU shut the f*** up!' She added: 'No! Not me, b****!' prompting whoops from some of the observers on the scene. 'Tell him, girl,' said one woman who was watching the encounter. Chappell was previously vocal about her exasperation over 'weird' fans making her 'uncomfortable' with their intrusive behavior - prompting a backlash from social media users who felt she was being ungrateful for her stardom. 'I don't care that abuse and harassment, stalking, whatever, is a normal thing to do to people who are famous or a little famous, whatever,' she said on TikTok last August. 'I don't care that it's normal. I don't care that this crazy type of behavior comes along with the job, the career field I've chosen.' Chappell continued: 'That does not make it okay that doesn't make it normal. That doesn't mean that I want it, that doesn't mean that I like it....' She defiantly declared she did not 'give a f***' about being regarded as 'selfish' for saying ''no for a photo or for your time or for a hug. That's not normal, that's weird.'
