Committee asks BBC boss for view on ‘what went wrong' with Glastonbury coverage

Committee asks BBC boss for view on 'what went wrong' with Glastonbury coverage The BBC has faced strong criticism for continuing to livestream the performance of punk rap duo Bob Vylan, which is now the subject of a criminal police investigation Tim Davie was at Glastonbury Festival when pro-Palestine chants were broadcast by the BBC (Image: PA Wire/PA Images ) A Government committee has written to BBC director-general Tim Davie asking him for a "personal assessment of what went wrong" with the broadcaster's Glastonbury coverage. The BBC has faced strong criticism for continuing to livestream the performance of punk rap duo Bob Vylan, which is now the subject of a criminal police investigation, at the festival on iPlayer. ‌ They led chants of "Death, death to the IDF (Israel Defence Forces)" during their set on the West Holts Stage on Saturday, with the broadcaster providing on-screen warnings about discriminatory language on its platform. ‌ It later apologised on Monday and said the chants held "antisemitic sentiments" that were "unacceptable". Irish rap trio Kneecap, who are also facing an Avon and Somerset Police investigation, appeared on the same stage directly after Bob Vylan and led the Glastonbury audience in "Free Palestine" chants. It has since been revealed that Tim Davie was at Glastonbury when the pro-Palestine chants were broadcast. Article continues below In a letter sent to Mr Davie by the Culture, Media and Sport Committee on Tuesday, chairwoman Dame Caroline Dinenage asked the BBC boss 12 questions after saying its coverage had caused "widespread concern". Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy previously said that "several" editorial failures "becomes a problem of leadership" during a statement on the BBC's coverage to the Commons. Among the questions, Dame Caroline said: "Before the festival started, did the BBC consider streaming all or part of its Glastonbury coverage with a short time delay, to allow room to respond to events if necessary?" ‌ The Conservative MP went on to ask how many BBC staff and contractors were working at Glastonbury or on its coverage, if staff with the authority to cut Bob Vylan's live stream were present during their performance and whether ending the live stream was discussed mid-performance. Dame Caroline then asked: "At what level were the decisions made to not stream Kneecap live and to stream Bob Vylan live, but with a warning on screen?" The letter asked if the BBC had a contingency plan for the event and who was responsible for forming and actioning the plan, before asking if the broadcaster would review its Editorial Guidelines and guidance for live output "to ensure they are fit for live streaming". ‌ The Tory MP added: "In summary, what is your personal assessment of what went wrong and what (are the) key lessons that the BBC will take away from the experience of live streaming Glastonbury 2025?" Dame Caroline said she hoped for Mr Davie's response to the questions within two weeks. Avon and Somerset Police said it had launched a probe into both the Bob Vylan and Kneecap performances after reviewing video footage and audio recordings, with a senior detective appointed to lead the investigation. ‌ A force spokesman said: "This has been recorded as a public order incident at this time while our inquiries are at an early stage. "The investigation will be evidence-led and will closely consider all appropriate legislation, including relating to hate crimes." In response to criticism of their performance on Tuesday, Bob Vylan said in a statement posted on Instagram that they were being "targeted for speaking up" and that "a good many people would have you believe a punk band is the number one threat to world peace." Article continues below The statement said: "We are not for the death of Jews, Arabs or any other race or group of people. "We are for the dismantling of a violent military machine. A machine whose own soldiers were told to use 'unnecessary lethal force' against innocent civilians waiting for aid. "A machine that has destroyed much of Gaza."

Jade shares hidden tribute to Oasis at Glastonbury despite Noel Gallagher feud

Jade Thirlwall isn't one to Look Back In Anger, with the former Little Mix singer still willing to take style inspiration from Noel Gallagher despite the Oasis rocker's nasty jibes Pop icon Jade Thirlwall has shown she isn't one to hold a grudge by revealing she took inspiration from the Gallagher brothers for her Glastonbury looks. The former Little Mix singer, 32, clashed with Oasis songwriter Noel Gallagher when the 58-year-old took aim at her band's achievements. But Jade, who had an iconic response to Noel's shady comments, isn't too stubborn to not appreciate the rocker's iconic style. In a new post, the X Factor winner - who rocked a green parka inspired co-ord on the Woodsie stage on Saturday - reveals Noel and his brother's infamous Brit pop style made her mood board when looking for inspiration for her Glastonbury look. ‌ At the start of this year, Jade reflected on the Wonderwall singer's brutal jibes about her band Little Mix from four years ago and disclosed how her boyfriend, Rizzle Kicks' Jordan Stephens, chose to confront Noel in person over the comments, only to be met with a foul-mouthed tirade. ‌ After Little Mix made history at The Brit Awards in May 2021, Noel felt obliged to voice his opinions on the Black Magic singers being the first all-female group to win the British Group award. The veteran rocker suggested that the award-winning girl band were "not in the same league as Oasis" and hinted their record-breaking victory indicated a problem within the music industry. During an episode of Never Mind the Buzzcocks the same year, Jade responded to the unsolicited criticism from the seasoned rocker with a hilarious retort. Speaking to Louis Theroux on his eponymous podcast, she delved deeper into her band's feud with the father-of-three. "Well, we're very different bands, so I'll give him that respect," the Angel of My Dreams singer conceded to the documentary maker. "We're very, you know, we're a pop girl band. Yeah. I don't know why he was comparing us, actually." Louis then speculated if Noel made the comment "for the clicks. " Jade playfully replied: "I think so," referring to Noel's love for confrontation. "I think he loves a little confrontation, doesn't he, that one. ‌ She then quipped: "You can't really argue with that, do you know what I mean? And I also kind of, um, love that I've ended up in some sort of tiff with one of the Gallaghers. I feel like, it's the same as getting a hate tweet from Azalea Banks." Jade then shared a story during Louis' Spotify podcast about an encounter her beau, Jordan, had with Noel at Glastonbury. Jade and the Rizzle Kicks frontman started their romance amid the Covid-19 lockdown in 2020. Her recount of that event was: "I seen him [Noel] at Glastonbury that year, actually," and detailed that Jordan confronted Noel saying, "I'm going to go over and say something. I was like, alright then, give it a go. They went over, I was like, you are really rude about my girlfriend. Do you want to apologize? He went, f*ck off! And I thought, do you know what? Fair play." ‌ Talking about the time back in 2021 when Jade addressed Noel's harsh words towards herself and her Little Mix bandmates Perrie Edwards and Leigh-Anne Pinnock, she had a sharp retort on Never Mind the Buzzcocks. Referring to the incident, she recounted, "Noel did [slag us off]" while sitting on the panel of the comedy show's revival. Jade added insult to injury by recalling, "Something about that we were undeserving of the Brit Award because we're women and don't - well we do write music - but he thinks we don't write music. Well, we're very different bands, so I'll give him that to that respect." "Yeah, shame really," the award-winning singer adds. "Because you know, we are definitely the most successful girl group in the country, but he's not even the most successful performer in his family!"

Harry Styles' new love interest Ella Kenny shares her first snap from Glastonbury posing with DJ Nia Archives and stylist who worked with singer's ex-girlfriend Taylor Russell - after THAT late night festival kiss

Ella Kenny has shared the first glimpse at her fun-filled Glastonbury experience, after she was revealed as the woman seen passionately kissing Harry Styles in the festival's VIP area over the weekend. The former One Direction star, 31, partied into the early hours with pals at Worthy Farm on Saturday, where he was seen getting very close to the 28-year-old producer. In a video obtained by The Sun, the pair can be seen sharing an intimate kiss on the dance floor, sending Harry's impassioned fans wild. And on Monday, Ella took her Instagram page public to share her first photo from her time at the festival, looking on cloud nine as she posed in the sunshine with her pals in a reposted snap on her Stories. The Bournemouth University graduate put on a leggy display in a pair of tiny black short and a simple white button-up shirt as she wrapped an arm around friends Nia Archives and Jessica Skeete-Cross. DJ and singer-songwriter Nia is a prominent star on the drum'n'bass scene, having been nominated for a Brit Award and Mercury Prize and opened for Beyoncé during her 2023 Renaissance tour. While Jessica is a stylist for ES Magazine, who has worked with big names like Maya Jama, Robert Pattison, Letitia Wright, Cara Delevingne and in an interesting twist - Harry's ex-girlfriend, Taylor Russell. Taylor and Harry dated for 14 months, reportedly striking up their romance in March 2023, before their split in May last year. During their relationship, the actress appeared on the cover of ES Magazine in November 2023, which Jessica styled and proudly shared to her Instagram. Ella is a producer who has worked at a studio in London for around three years, producing 'crossplatform content' for businesses such as record companies and fashion brands. She has worked alongside Nia, as well as produced music videos for artists such as Rachel Chinouriri, and Slow Thai, as well as Anne-Marie and Aitch's huge hit PSYCHO. She and Harry already knew each other prior to the festival, but it remains unknown if their passionate exchange was a one-off. Reportedly, the Watermelon Sugar star was in the VIP section with a group of pals when Ella arrived and kissed him on the cheek multiple times, before he led her to the dance floor where they shared their very public smooch. Speaking about the kiss to The Sun, a source said: 'Harry and Ella had fun together at Glastonbury and shared a kiss on the dancefloor. While Jessica is a stylist for ES Magazine, who has worked with big names like Maya Jama , Robert Pattison, Letitia Wright , Cara Delevingne and in an interesting twist - Harry's ex-girlfriend, Taylor Russell (pictured last year) 'They had a good time in the moment but it doesn't mean it will evolve into anything. They just got on and had a snog. 'But she seems like a normal, down-to-earth girl which is different from some of the big stars he's dated before.' A representative for Harry has been contacted by MailOnline for comment. Harry's last public snog was with supermodel Emily Ratajkowski when they were spotted snogging in Tokyo in 2023. The pair were seen dancing with each other in the Japanese capital as they stood alongside a silver people carrier while sheltering from the rain under an umbrella. They shared a number of kisses on the street outside, appearing not to care who saw them while in full view of onlookers. As well as Taylor and Emily, Harry has been previously linked with a string of A-list women, from Taylor Swift to models Kendall Jenner and Camille Rowe, and actress Olivia Wilde. His appearance at Glastonbury comes after he enjoyed a music festival in London's Victoria Park with pals earlier this month as his hiatus from the public eye continues. Harry was pictured in the crowd at LIDO festival, watching DJ Jamie xx as he headlined the battery-powered stage. Keeping a low-profile, the heartthrob appeared to be in good spirits as he sported a casual look of a navy hoodie underneath a blue jacket with a purple cap in the midst of the rainy weather. As the night progressed, he removed his hoodie to reveal a grey T-shirt which featured a giant emoji smiley face. He could also be seen enjoying the festival with Patience Harding, who worked on the design for his third studio album Harry's House. Harry - who has an estimated net worth of $140million - has kept a low-profile throughout 2025 as he enjoys time out of the spotlight since wrapping his Love On Tour tour in 2023. But in April, he sent fans into a frenzy when he was spotted in the Vatican to witness the announcement of the first American pope in the wake of a two-day papal conclave. He was the subject of a number of social media posts from fans excited to see him on the historic day.
