
Drunk Audi driver runs over 5 sleeping on footpath in South Delhi

The victims have been identified as Ladhi, aged 40, her eight-year-old daughter Bimla, husband Sabami (alias Chirma) aged 45, Ram Chander, aged 45 and his 35-year-old wife Narayani. All the victims are from Rajasthan.

A preliminary investigation by the police and the eyewitness accounts have revealed that a white Audi car drove over the victims who were sleeping on the footpath and Shekhar, who is the resident of Dwarka was apprehended by police on the spot, officials to PTI. Police also said that further investigation is underway to find out the exact sequence of the events and assess any additional negligence. Meanwhile, legal action has been initiated against the accused, Utsav Shekhar.

A case was registered at Pullampet police station under relevant sections of the BNS and Motor Vehicle (MV) Act. The police launched an investigation. The survivors allege negligence on the part of the driver. Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed grief over the accident. He directed officials to ensure quality medical care for the injured persons. "It is heartbreaking that poor labourers lost their lives while returning home from work. The government will fully support the families of the deceased," said the CM in a press release. Governor S Abdul Nazeer also condoled the deaths. Thane, Jul 14 (PTI) A 44-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide in Navi Mumbai, following which police have registered a case of abetment against her live-in partner, an official said on Monday. He gained the woman's trust and allegedly took Rs 10 lakh from her, an official from Rabale police station said. When the woman later sought to end their relationship, the man threatened to share her objectionable pictures and videos with her relatives, the official said quoting a complaint filed by one of the daughters of the victim on July 11. The man allegedly assaulted and tortured the victim on multiple occasions, which led her to take the extreme step, the complaint alleged. The accused also sent abusive messages to the victim's daughters and made threatening calls to them, as per the complaint. Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case against the man under various Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections, including 108 (abetment of suicide), 77 (voyeurism), 316(2) (criminal breach of trust), 74 (assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 351(3) (criminal intimidation), the official said.
