The last four competitors in the women's singles tournament at Wimbledon are set as the semifinalists take the court on Thursday. With spots in the championship match on the line, Aryna Sabalenka, Amanda Anisimova, Iga Świątek and Belinda Bencic will take the prestigious Center Court.
All four competitors will try to claim their first Wimbledon title after 2024 winner Barbora Krejčíková fell to Emma Navarro in the third round this year. No. 1 Sabalenka and No. 13 Anisimova will take the court first as the Belarusian looks to notch her 21st career singles title and her first since the Madrid Open in May. An upset for Anisimova means a step toward her fourth career singles title and first at a Grand Slam tournament.

No. 8 Świątek has been dominant so far in this tournament, winning 10 of 11 sets decisively in search of her 22nd WTA singles title and a sixth major to add to her four French Open titles, plus one US Open win. Switzerland's unseeded Bencic has scraped her way to the semis in a tournament that has been marred by upsets. Apart from her first-round win over Alycia Parksa, Bencic has navigated a tightly-contested route to the semis, with two of her matches seeing a third set. She upset No. 7 Mirra Andreeva to advance to Thursday, and currently has a WTA ranking of 34.

(AP Photo/Paul Sancya) DETROIT (AP) — Cal Raleigh hit his 37th and 38th home runs in Seattle's 12-3 victory over Detroit on Friday night to move within one of Barry Bonds' 2001 major league record for homers before the All-Star break. Raleigh hit a solo homer off former teammate Tyler Holton in the eighth to tie the American League record of 37 set by Reggie Jackson in 1969 and matched by Chris Davis in 2013. Advertisement '(Holton) and I are really good friends and I've caught a lot of his pitches,' said Raleigh, who was in the lineup as the designated hitter instead of at catcher. 'I don't think that helped much, but I'm sure he's not very happy with me.' Raleigh hit a grand slam off Brant Hurter in the ninth. 'I didn't even know it was a record until just now,' Raleigh said. 'I don't have words for it, I guess. I'm just very grateful and thankful.' Seattle has two games left in Detroit before the break. 'Cal Raleigh ... this is just unbelievable,' Mariners manager Dan Wilson said. "He's already set the AL record and now he's only one short of Barry. There are two games, so who knows?' Advertisement Raleigh hit 10 homers in March and April, 12 in May, 11 in June and has five in July. 'This is a very boring comment, but baseball is all about consistency,' Wilson said. 'This hasn't been one hot streak, he's doing this month after month. That says everything.' ___ AP MLB:

Buccaneers' Tight End Missing From Elite List

Buccaneers' Tight End Missing From Elite List originally appeared on Athlon Sports. While some Tampa Bay Buccaneers players are finally starting to garner some national attention, others are not. This offseason, we've seen the likes of Mike Evans, Bucky Irving, Tristan Wirfs, Baker Mayfield, Antoine Winfield Jr. and Jamel Dean honored on "best of" lists representing Tampa Bay. Advertisement But as we peruse ESPN's top 10 tight ends in the NFL ahead of the 2025 season, there's no Bucs player to be found - no Cade Otton. Is that deserved? Maybe. Otton is good. He's good for the Bucs. But is he elite? Certainly an argument could be made that he's not. Especially with his history of drops. Otton was a fourth-round pick by the Bucs in 2022 out of then-Pac-12 powerhouse Washington. He had an impressive rookie campaign with 391 yards and two touchdowns, but suffered from drops. He posted just 42 catches on 65 targets with five drops, leading all tight ends. The next season wasn't much better, with three drops on 67 targets, and he got worse last season. In 2024, Otton posted 59 catches on 87 targets with 600 yards and four touchdowns but eight drops. Advertisement If Otton can clean up his pass catching, he'd be a far more effective offensive tool for Mayfield and the Bucs. In ProFootballFocus' rankings earlier this season, Otton was No. 20 overall, which actually sounds a little high, honestly. "Otton's Achilles' heel is drops. He has the third most (11) at the position across the past two years. His 63.1 PFF receiving grade in 2024 was a career high and also marks the first time he generated more than 1 yard per route run (1.31). If he can hang on to the ball (also three fumbles the past two years), Otton has the skills to rise on this list." Tennis Fans Call Out Aryna Sabalenka For Hypocritical Behavior

Tennis Fans Call Out Aryna Sabalenka For Hypocritical Behavior originally appeared on The Spun. Aryna Sabalenka's hopes of winning her first Wimbledon title were crushed on Thursday by Amanda Anisimova. Advertisement Anisimova defeated Sabalenka in a three-set thriller, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. It was a really impressive performance for the American, especially considering where she was just a year ago. She took a break from the sport due to mental health concerns. Fast forward to the present day, and she's playing the best tennis of her career. "To be honest, if you told me I would be in the final at Wimbledon, I would not believe you," Anisimova said following her win over Sabalenka. "At least not this soon, because I mean, it's been a year turnaround since coming back and to be in this spot, I mean, it's not easy. And so many people dream of competing on this incredible court. It's been such a privilege to compete here, and to be in the final is just indescribable." While Anisimova expressed gratitude for her win, Sabalenka made it clear she wasn't thrilled about the loss. During her media availability on Thursday night, the three-time Grand Slam champion called out Anisimova for celebrating early during a point in the second set. Sabalenka asked the chair umpire to penalize Anisimova for hindrance. Advertisement "I was just trying to chase the ball. She was already celebrating it. I was like 'I mean, that's a bit too early.' She kind of pissed me off like saying 'That's what she does all the time.' But I was grateful and thankful that she said that because I was like, it actually helped me to keep fighting. I was like ok, now I'm gonna show you the tennis," Sabalenka told reporters. "I came back because I got really angry in that moment. Probably in the 3rd set I should've remembered and probably it would've helped. But it is what it is." Jul 8, 2025; Wimbledon, United Kingdom; Aryna Sabalenka at her post match interview after winning her match against Laura Siegemund of Germany on day nine at All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Mullane-Imagn Images. Not only did fans hate these post-match remarks from Sabalenka, they found them to be hypocritical. Advertisement For as great as Sabalenka is, she expressed herself on the court more than any other player. She probably shouldn't be judging others for doing the same. "I hope this is satire. Sabalenka rapidly becoming one of the more unlikeable players on tour because she'll do anything but credit her opponent," one fan said. "She's clearly not aware of how much obnoxious she is all over her matches," a second fan replied. "This woman just cannot lose gracefully," a third fan wrote on X. "Aryna complaining about hindrance is crazy," another fan said. This is the second Grand Slam tournament in a row that Sabalenka has been accused of being a sore loser. Following her loss to Coco Gauff in the French Open final, she made a pretty ridiculous comment that grabbed everyone's attention. Advertisement "If Iga had beaten me the other day, I think she'd come out today and get the win," Sabalenka said. Hopefully, Sabalenka can learn from her mistakes at Wimbledon. If not, fans will continue to get on her case.
