State-of-the-art Vande Bharat upkeep hub coming up in Lucknow
On Thursday, divisional railway manager (DRM) Sunil Kumar Verma inspected the upcoming North Coaching Complex at Charbagh, which will serve as a dedicated maintenance facility for these semi-high-speed trains.
'The facility, currently under construction, will include advanced infrastructure such as maintenance pit lines, electric sheds, water supply networks and comprehensive waste & water management systems. Once operational, the complex will enable local servicing of Vande Bharat trains, reducing turnaround time and enhancing service reliability,' said Kuldeep Tiwari, senior divisional commercial manager, NR, Lucknow.
'Lucknow station is being developed to cater to the future demands of high-speed rail. This new complex reflects Northern Railway's long-term vision and commitment to upgrading passenger services,' said the DRM.
He also conducted a window trailing inspection of the Lucknow–Jaitipur section on the Lucknow–Kanpur rail line to assess safety, operational efficiency and passenger amenities.
During the journey, key points such as point no. 142A and level crossing No 17C were inspected, along with signal systems, level crossings and safety installations. At Jaitipur station, he reviewed the relay room, signal panels and station superintendent's office.

Pune–Secunderabad Vande Bharat: The train will likely to stop at Daund, Solapur, and Gulbarga, saving 2-3 hours of travel time. Pune–Belagavi Vande Bharat: Likely halts at Satara, Sangli, and Miraj. Tickets are expected to cost between Rs 1,500 and Rs 2,000. In other news, the Indian Railways is also considering launching a Pune–Nagpur Vande Bharat Sleeper train, which will further boost connectivity. These new services aim to ease travel for passengers, promote tourism in connected regions, and give a fresh push to development around Pune.

Speaking about the Ahmedabad-Mumbai Bullet Train, a senior official from the Railway Ministry talking to Live Hindustan stated that the work on the Surat-Bilimora (50-kilometer) section of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed corridor is in its final stages. He also informed that a trial run of the Vande Bharat train will begin by the end of the year. By 2027, the general public will be able to travel on the Vande Bharat (sitting) train. Two Vande Bharat trains, each with eight coaches, will operate on this route. Although the maximum speed is 280 km/h, the trains will run at 250 km/h. What are the claims? As per the Live Hindustan report, Japan had set the cost of each bullet train coach at Rs 16 crore when the agreement for the Ahmedabad-Mumbai high-speed corridor project was signed. However, last year, Japan increased the price to more than three times the original amount. At the time of supply, the cost per coach was raised to Rs 50 crore. As a result, a 16-coach bullet train would now cost ₹800 crore.

Freight train fire disrupts Chennai services, leaves thousands stranded
CHENNAI: Thousands of rail passengers were inconvenienced on Sunday after train services were disrupted on the Chennai-Arakkonam section due to the fire incident. Many passengers, unaware of the sudden cancellations, were forced to return home after arriving at Chennai Central station between 5.30 am and 7 am, as the announcements came just 30 to 40 minutes before the scheduled departures. All suburban train services on the Chennai-Arakkonam section were suspended from 5.15 am in both directions. About 15 express trains bound for Chennai which departed on Saturday, including the Mangaluru Mail, Nilgiris Express, Mysuru Express, Coimbatore Intercity, Thiruvananthapuram Mail, and Jolarpettai Express, were short-terminated between Arakkonam and Gudiyatham. Additionally, 15 express trains bound to Tirupati, Thiruvananthapuram, Bengaluru, and Mysuru from Chennai were cancelled. A section of passengers scheduled to travel to Bengaluru on premium trains such as the Shatabdi and Vande Bharat had to book expensive omnibus services. S Lalithakumari, a resident of Alandur, said: 'I received a confirmation message for my Kovai Express ticket at 9.15 pm on Saturday. We, a group of four, reached Chennai Central by 5.45 am. Just as I was checking the train's status, I received another message saying the train was cancelled. It's now an uphill task to rebook tickets for all of us.' Rail passengers said they struggled to find alternative travel through omnibuses and other connecting trains. K Baskar, former DRUCC member of Chennai Division, said, 'A passenger who bought a paper ticket through an Automatic Ticket Vending Machine (ATVM) at Walajah Road was refused a refund, even though rules allow for it during cancellations. Staff claimed there was no provision for refunding ATVM tickets.' He alleged emergency helpline numbers offered no support even after multiple calls. The transport department deployed 30 special buses to ferry stranded passengers from Tiruttani, Tiruvallur, and Arakkonam, which proved insufficient.
