Bogus teachers scam: Min now announces statewide SIT probe
The scam, mainly centred around schools in Nagpur, operated since 2019, and was finally detected in April 2025. An SIT, largely limited to Nagpur, is already in operation. However, on Tuesday, Bhuse announced a statewide SIT and said the scam was operating beyond Nagpur district. "The SIT will have an IAS and IPS officer and also a law official. It will be time-bound and submit its report in 3-4 months," said Bhuse.
He also said, "We have already taken action against 19 people, which includes education officials and heads of educational institutions. No one will be spared. There were complaints received as far back as 2000, but no probe was ordered. The matter came to light only in 2025, and we immediately began a probe."

Telangana High Court issues notice to Rangareddy district collector in contempt case
HYDERABAD: Justice C V Bhasker Reddy of the Telangana High Court has issued notices to the Rangareddy District Collector in a contempt case filed by Birla Mallesh. The court directed the Collector to submit a report by July 11, 2025, regarding the alleged violation of a previous court order dated April 24, 2025, which stayed all transactions and alterations on over 26 acres of disputed government and Bhoodan land in Survey Numbers 180 and 182 of Nagaram village, Maheshwaram mandal. The petitioner alleged that, despite the court's stay order, the respondents continued illegal construction activity on the property. Photographic evidence submitted to the court reportedly shows ongoing compound wall construction at the site. Taking serious note of the alleged non-compliance, Justice Reddy directed the District Collector to investigate the matter immediately and report the current status of the land. The contempt proceedings stem from a broader writ petition filed by Birla Mallesh, who accused senior IAS and IPS officers from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh of colluding with revenue and registration officials to fraudulently transfer the land. The petitioner alleged that this was done using forged documents and manipulated revenue records. He claimed that his family had been cultivating the land peacefully for over five decades, but it was later falsely shown as part of Survey No. 194 to facilitate illegal transfers. Serious allegations were also made regarding the misuse of the Dharani digital land portal and the improper issuance of 13-B certificates to legitimize fraudulent transactions, commonly referred to as 'Saida Bainama.' The petitioner stated that despite filing multiple complaints since November 2024, authorities ignored the issue and instead harassed him with legal threats and defamation notices. Justice Reddy remarked that land meant for the poor was being usurped by the powerful, calling it 'a case of the fence eating the crop.'

'Wrong operation done to claim govt funds: Bengal man goes for hernia surgery, doctors remove appendix instead; kin cry foul
The patient alleges the doctor performed the appendectomy to fraudulently claim funds from the Swasthya Sathi health scheme, as hernia surgeries are not covered. KOLKATA: A Sodepur resident has alleged that the doctor had removed his appendix while he was admitted to the hospital for a hernia surgery. Incidentally, the patient and the accused doctor share the same name - Biswajit Das. The patient initially went to the Panihati State General Hospital for his hernia treatment. He was advised by the attending doctor to undergo a surgery at a private nursing home in Sodepur, which he allegedly owns. The doctor assured him that the procedure would be covered under the state-run Swasthya Sathi health scheme. However, hernia surgeries are not reimbursed under the scheme, whereas appendectomies are. Stayed at home for six wks after picnic trauma
1 2 3 4 In 2023, the year I had joined college, we had gone on a picnic to Budge Budge. The seniors had organised the outing for juniors. I was new to the city and I was all excited about the picnic. While travelling by train to Budge Budge, I was introduced to Monojit Mishra. On reaching the spot, a bagaan baari, we found that two AC rooms on the first floor of the house had been kept for us, one for the girls and the other, for boys. From the time we reached, Monojit started drinking and some of the boys joined him around noon. They were all sitting downstairs in a big hall. I remember, it was around 5.45 pm that my father had called. I went to the boys' room to talk to him as the room was empty at that time. That room had an attached verandah, and I went out there to talk. Suddenly, I turned around to see Monojit striding up to me. He grabbed my hair, dragged me inside and pounced on me. I kept begging him to let me go but he snatched away my phone. He pinned me down and held my hands so tightly that I was not in a position to move. He took that chance and tore my innerwear's strap. I froze and started crying. He called me 'hot' and bit me so hard that blood started dripping from my earlobes. The bite marks on my neck remained for at least a couple of months. You Can Also Check: Kolkata AQI | Weather in Kolkata | Bank Holidays in Kolkata | Public Holidays in Kolkata The more I screamed the more Monojit blasted the volume of the music with a remote control so that no one could hear me. The brutality continued for 40 minutes until someone knocked on the door, and he was forced to open it. As he left, I ran downstairs, washed off the blood and went and sat on a bench. My ear was still bleeding, but I covered it with my hair. Just then, he again came up to me and groped me from behind, but I managed to escape. The torment continued till 6.30 pm. My batchmates and seniors sensed my discomfort, and after I confided in them, they asked me to lodge a complaint. I decided to lodge a complaint with the college authorities and police the very next day. But Monojit's gang called me to the union room and told me, "Dada has a lot of power. It will take just one minute to finish off your family. You live so far from home—if someone throws acid on you, you might not even survive. " They seemed to have gathered information on my family and I was too scared to go to police. Monojit's gang would call me up on WhatsApp after midnight to threaten and abuse me. Eventually, the frequency of the calls subsided, but the memory of it all kept haunting me. The trauma was such that I could not attend classes for one-and-a-half months. I left Kolkata and went back to my home, where I remained holed up. The fear of them harming my family and attacking me with acid kept me from speaking out against Monojit.
