Celtic transfer exodus continues with 12th summer exit but Brendan Rodgers puts the brakes on another departure

The Hoops have wasted no time clearing the decks this summer but are in dire need of reinforcements
Six in and 12 out.

It's perhaps not the arithmetic Brendan Rodgers had in mind when formulating his transfer masterplan this summer.

Celtic have cleared the decks by getting rid of some deadwood, while also banking a whopping £17million by flogging Nicolas Kuhn.

Throw in the seven-figure bonus from Jeremie Frimpong's switch to Liverpool and the Parkhead coffers are well and truly swelling.
On Friday, forgotten Bhoy Adam Montgomery became the latest outcast to leave the building as he sealed a season-long loan switch to Livingston.
He follows Scott Bain, Matthew Anderson, Maik Nawrocki (loan), Gustaf Lagerbielke, Liam Bonetig, Luis Palma, Jude Bonnar (loan), Daniel Cummings and Joey Dawson out of the exit door, while Greg Taylor also upped sticks for Greece.
South Korean winger Yang was on the scoresheet in Como Cup action and although Norwich City are sniffing around, Rodgers has made it abundantly clear the 23-year-old won't be allowed to go - at least until new faces arrive.
Speaking after the 5-1 humbling at the hands of Ajax, the gaffer said: "I see Yang as an important member of our squad. He's a player that showed that domestically he can play well for us, and really well.

"He scored goals. He created goals. You see tonight that the goal he scored is very, very good.
"It's always a challenge, I think, at a club like Celtic, whenever players have maybe been for a couple of seasons and they're not quite established.
"Because then they want to go and play more. But certainly at this stage, where we're at within the squad, it's not something I can even entertain. You see he's starting the games.

"And I see him as an important player for us in our squad. And once we can get the quality around him, then he'll be a good player for us.
'It's hard to say. At this moment in time, he's a starting winger for us. So we're not in a position to be moving him on. At this moment in time, it's not even in our thinking really."
With Jota crocked until 2026, Celts have been depleted of wide options. Marco Tilio has agreed to an initial loan move to Rapid Vienna, but it's unlikely the deal will be rubber-stamped until Rodgers lands further reinforcements.
Talks are ongoing with Royal Antwerp over a swoop for Michel-Ange Balikwisha but as things stand, both clubs have yet to find a middle ground over the £5m asking fee.
As Record Sport revealed, the Hoops are also looking for a main striker and another midfielder remains a top priority.

Russell Martin's Rangers rant blows the mind of body language expert who dishes out one-of-a-kind verdict

The Ibrox gaffer filleted his players in the aftermath of their Motherwell draw as they dropped points in the season opener Russell Martin ripped into his Rangers players as part of an astonishing TV blast after dropping points at Motherwell. ‌ It was another season opener for the Light Blues where they've failed to claim maximum points and the irate boss didn't hold back in his assessment of his squad as he promised to weed out the slackers and called out egos within his group. ‌ In the build-up to facing Viktoria Plzen in the crucial Champions League third qualifying round first leg showdown at Ibrox, the former Southampton boss told the media that his rant wasn't an attack on any individuals and for him honesty is the best policy. ‌ His post-match comments grabbed the headlines with his actions discussed by punters and debated wider on the likes of football radio shows as pundits, ex-pros and fans gave their views. Now body language expert Darren Stanton, known as the human lie detector, has delivered his verdict on the footage. Speaking to OLBG, he insisted that the Rangers boss was 'probably the most authentic and direct' manager he's assessed and says his words came from the heart and were genuine. He said: 'He wants to lay the law down and those that don't want to play ball in his own words can walk and sometimes you've just got to pull a scary face in life. 'It's nice to be nice but you've also got to stand up for yourself and defend your values and say what you think is wrong. 'If the fans get behind him and support his strategy to go in there and start kicking some arse then I do think heads will roll but it's all about leverage. ‌ 'No one person is bigger than the team, or at least that's the idea isn't it, so he has to control the framing and the narrative because at the end of the day he's the manager or the coach, especially if there's one or two players who run against that. 'I think out of all the managers I've been asked to assess, I think Martin is the most forthright and probably most authentic and direct I've seen in some time. He looks like the sort of man that's not going to suffer fools gladly at Rangers.' ‌ He continued: 'There's a lot of anger. His eyes are pulled together and pulled down. 'Martin was looking down and left for most of the interview, if you notice, which is what we call auditory internal dialogue. This happens in a split second. 'He's thinking very carefully about what he's saying but it does tell me that he's been genuinely authentic. 'He's speaking from the heart. If he was trying to manage the risk of what he's saying to the media we would see some bilateral shoulder shrugs, which is where one only shoulder moves. 'He seems genuine because he did lots of double shoulder shrugs. He's not trying to mask anything.' Russell Martin must bin Rangers experiment as Ibrox flop set for shock Borussia Dortmund transfer

The Light Blues host Viktoria Plzen in Tuesday night's Champions League third-round first leg Russell Martin has been urged to bin the Max Aarons experiment at left-back ahead of Tuesday's Champions League blockbuster. ‌ On-loan Bournemouth defender Aarons has been played out of position to accommodate captain James Tavernier over the summer. ‌ Traditionally a right-back, the 25-year-old has looked uncomfortable on the opposite flank in recent clashes with Panathinaikos and Motherwell. ‌ The Motherwell midfielder told Clyde 1 Superscoreboard: "I think the Max Aarons experiment at left-back is three games too many already. "I just think he looks extremely uncomfortable out there. I think the attributes that you hear or see, I just feel are fully negated on that left-hand side. "Do you know what? I'll say five games. I watched the Middlesbrough and Club Brugge games and I just think he looks uncomfortable out there. With such a massive game, I just think that experiment has to end. "The signing of Max Aarons alone tells me he's [Tavernier] under immense pressure. Russell Martin clearly wants competition in certain areas of the field. I don't think Max Aarons is being signed not to play. ‌ "So I think straight away, James Tavernier has to earn his jersey. If he's got it, he's got to keep it. "But certainly from that left-hand side, I think there's going to be a change there on Tuesday night." Meanwhile, Ibrox flop Fabio Silva is closing in on a shock move to Borussia Dortmund. ‌ Wolves are keen to offload the Portugal cap after splashing out £35million to land him from Porto in 2020. But the big-money move hasn't worked out and Silva, 23, has spent the last three years out on loan with four different clubs. Now, Wolves are ready to cut their losses and reports suggest German heavyweights Dortmund have proposed a five-year deal. Silva - who struggled during a short stint at Ibrox in 2024 - is in the final year of his contract and could leave the Molineux for £17m. Italian outfit Roma are also keen on the attacker but Dortmund are in the driving seat. Celtic and Rangers Champions League play-off dates confirmed

The Champions League play-off dates for Celtic and Rangers have been confirmed by UEFA. The draw in Nyon on Monday morning laid out the possible path to the September group stages for both Old Firm sides. Celtic went into the seeded Champions Path side of the draw and will hope to reach the revamped group stages once more. Last season, they emerged from the single 36-team table with a 21st-place finish. The Parkhead side were knocked in heartbreaking fashion after Bayern Munich scored in injury time to win their play-off tie 3-2 on aggregate. They will face either Kairat or Slovan Bratislava in the play-off, with the first leg at Parkhead, on Wednesday, August 20, and the return leg a week later on Tuesday, August 26. To reach the play-off stage, Russell Martin's side must first defeat Viktoria Plzen, whom they host on Tuesday night, before the return leg on August 12. Rangers have been drawn against Austrian side RB Salzburg or Club Brugge of Belgium, and could face them on Tuesday, August 19, with the return leg a week later on Wednesday, August 27. The winner of the third round tie will play the first leg at home. Celtic, and Rangers, should they get there, will be allowed to postpone their Scottish Premiership fixture scheduled between both legs of the play-off tie following an SPFL rule change.
