Kaizer Chiefs strongest XI with new signings this season

Kaizer Chiefs will open their 2025/26 Betway Premiership season against Stellenbosch on 10 August. Having returned from their pre-season in the Netherlands, Amakhosi have just over two weeks to prepare for the big clash. Unfortunately for them, they won't feature in the MTN8 competition after failing to finish in the top 8 last season. This weekend, they will play Asante Kotoko of Ghana in the Toyota Cup in Durban, where supporters will see new players in action for the first time on South African soil. Goalkeeper: Brandon Petersen The experienced keeper appears to be Nabi's first-choice keeper this season. His leadership has been vital, especially in the final of the Nedbank Cup, where Amakhosi were victorious. Defenders: Reeve Frosler (RB) The experienced defender is more likely to be Kaizer Chiefs' first choice as opposed to new signing Thabiso Monyane. Dillan Solomons could also be used as a sub rather than a starter. Miguel Inacio (CB) Miguel is set to be the new Amakhosi captain with the departure of Yusuf Maart. He has looked solid in big games, but his disciplinary record has to improve. On his day, the Angolan international is one of the best defenders in the PSL. Aden McCarthy (CB) The young centre-back who impressed during pre-season in the Netherlands. He has become a new favourite and expect him to bench Given Msimango when in the opening matches. With regular centre-back Rushwin Dortley still not fit, McCarthy will no doubt be Miguel's defensive partner. Bradley Cross (LB) Bradley Cross is more likely to start ahead of Nkanyiso Shinga at left-back. Shinga has looked vulnerable and it's more likely that Nasreddine Nabi will opt for Cross in the opening matches. Paseka Mako could be an option when he recovers from injury. Midfielders: Thabo Cele (CM) Thabo Cele is no doubt Kaizer Chiefs' best player. Since his arrival, he had looked like the leader the club needs. During pre-season, he was far the best player and looks like he is getting more comfortable in the midfield role alongside Sibongiseni Mthethwa. Nkosingiphile Ngcobo (AM) Ngcobo has excelled this pre-season and looks like a different player. If he can carry the form that he showed in Holland, he will be an asset for Amakhosi this season. Siphesihle Ndlovu (DM) He might be one of Kaizer Chiefs' surprise signings. Ex-player Reneilwe Letsholonyane has praised the former SuperSport United midfielder, saying he is the kind of player who will fight for every ball and show commitment. Forwards: Makabi Lilepo (LW) The Congolese attacker is one of the few standout players from last season. He will no doubt start most of Amakhosi's matches but it remains to be seen if he will show the same explosiveness he showed in his first three months at the club. Pule Mmodi (RW) Mmodi has been hot and cold for Kaizer Chiefs and perhaps this could finally be his season where he impresses. Flavio Silva (Str) Nabi has always preferred to have a target man, hence he signed Silva. If the 29-year-old striker can find form early in the season, Amakhosi could play him upfront while Lilepo, Mmodi and Ngcobo provide. What are Orlando Pirates not saying about Relebohile Mofokeng?

Orlando Pirates have denied reports of a R120 million offer from PSV for striker Relebohile Mofokeng, but their statement did not address his future at the club, leaving uncertainty about his potential departure. Picture: Itumeleng English/Independent Media Image: Itumeleng English/Independent Media As the rumours continue to swirl about the future of star Orlando Pirates striker Relebohile Mofokeng, it's worth taking a closer look at the statement from the club on the player. Pirates were quick to rubbish reports on July 16 that PSV had made an offer of R120m for the 20-year-old. According to Mofokeng's market value is around R33 million. In a 178-word statement on its website, Pirates went on the offensive to say no such offer had been received by the club. Video Player is loading. What was revealing about the statement though, is that nowhere did it say something to dispel rumours that Mofokeng may in fact be leaving the club. Instead, it targeted the publication for publishing the story and the amount in question. Surely if the club wanted to stamp out rumours about Mofokeng, it would add that Mofokeng is committed to his future at the club? Pirates' Silence on Player Rumours: Monnapule Saleng's Absence and Mofokeng's Future Uncertain It's not the first time Pirates have done little to prevent rumours starting about their players. For over six months, there was no word on Monnapule Saleng. The star player was inexplicably absent from the Pirates team since December 7. There had even been rumours that Saleng might join rivals Kaizer Chiefs at one point, and yet Pirates did not address such reports. Only when he was loaned out to Orbit College earlier this month did the public get any clarification on his future. As for Mofokeng, whether he continues to ply his trade for Pirates remains to be seen; all we know is how much money hasn't been offered for the young talent. @Michael_Sherman IOL Sport

Orlando Pirates new top signing set to miss MTN8 clash

Orlando Pirates could be without their new top signing Oswin Appollis, ahead of their MTN8 opener against Polokwane City. The Buccaneers take on Rise and Shine at the Orlando Stadium on 2 August in the quarter-finals of the MTN8. Pirates have won the competition four times in the last five editions and are heavy favourites to lift the cup. With new coach Abdeslam Ouaddou at the helm, it remains to be seen if the Sea Robbers will still have their cup magic. Speaking following their pre-season tour in Spain, the Orlando Pirates coach confirmed that some players sustained minor injuries, but did not specify if any of them were new signings. 'It is expected that there will be some minor injuries and swelling in various players since football is played by young men,' Ouaddou said as per Isolezwe. Appollis played several pre-season friendly matches and against Pafos, he looked explosive, which convinced Pirates fans that the club made the right choice signing the 23-year-old He missed the games against former La Liga clubs UD Las Palmas and Granada CF due to a minor injury, according to reports. It is unknown if the new signing will be ready for Orlando Pirates' opening fixture. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211.
