‘Stay tuned', Anwar teases on major announcement

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim uploaded a poster which said that an 'extraordinary gesture of appreciation for Malaysians' is 'coming soon'.
PETALING JAYA : Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has hinted that a major announcement will be made in the coming days, while a PKR MP says a resolution has been reached involving judicial appointments and the chief justice's post.
In a social media post, Anwar uploaded a poster which said that an 'extraordinary gesture of appreciation for Malaysians' is 'coming soon'.
'Stay tuned,' the prime minister said simply in his post.
Separately, Segamat MP R Yuneswaran said he was made to understand that a resolution to the issue involving the judiciary has been reached and an official statement is expected in two to three days.
'Therefore, I urge all parties to stay calm and refrain from making speculations that could only worsen the situation,' he said on X.
It is unclear if the announcement Anwar teased about is related to the decision involving the judiciary.
Yuneswaran said he was confident that Anwar and the government were committed to ensuring the independence of the judiciary and to preventing the executive from interfering in the process of appointing judges.
Subang MP Wong Chen also said on Facebook that an announcement would be made in a couple of days. He said he managed to speak at Anwar's meeting with PH MPs and raised all that he needed to bring up.
'I said what I needed to say, so wait for the news. There will be an announcement in a couple of days,' said the PKR MP.
Earlier, government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil said PH MPs were briefed on the issue involving the judiciary, among others, in the meeting which lasted nearly two hours.
Anwar, meanwhile, said the meeting went 'very well'.
The prime minister had also met Barisan Nasional MPs on Friday night, which he said was to clear the air on several current issues, including taxation, the RON95 petrol subsidy, and matters involving the judiciary.

DAP to join PH allies in rejecting Nick Adams as US ambassador, says Loke

PETALING JAYA, July 15 — DAP will soon join its Pakatan Harapan coalition partners in voicing their concerns, urging the Malaysian government to reject the appointment of American conservative figure Nick Adams as the US ambassador to Malaysia. Transport Minister Anthony Loke, who is also the party's secretary-general, said the party will be issuing a statement on its stance in due time. 'I have instructed our international secretary to prepare the statement,' he told reporters after officiating Malaysia Maritime Week 2025 at Sunway Resort Hotel here. PKR and Parti Amanah Negara, both coalition partners of DAP, have recently decried Adams' appointment, which is seen as an 'insult' to the country's dignity. Former Umno minister Khairy Jamaluddin previously said Malaysia has a right to reject a foreign ambassador under Article 4 of the Vienna Convention. Adams is a well-known supporter of US President Donald Trump, often vocal on social media about his admiration for the US president. While he has no formal diplomatic experience, he has frequently appeared at Trump rallies and has been a vocal critic of liberal policies and figures. His alignment with Trump's political ideology has made him a controversial but steadfast supporter of his administration's policies. Despite his high-profile media presence, Adams does not hold traditional diplomatic experience. He is particularly active on X, where his posts frequently draw criticism — especially for espousing toxic masculine views. His social media presence has also been marked by Islamophobic remarks.

She said this is also supported by the shared history of both countries and a strong belief in the value of regional cooperation. Advertisement 'The friendship between Australia and Malaysia is built on our shared history and the close relationships between our peoples,' she said in a 1-minute and 25-second video posted on her official Instagram account, @senatorpennywong. The video includes footage from her childhood in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, as well as her appearance at the 58th Asean Foreign Ministers' Meeting (AMM) and related meetings held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre last week. Wong added that this year marks the 70th anniversary of Australia-Malaysia diplomatic relations, and she expressed support for Malaysia's role as Asean Chair. 'We will continue working with our regional partners to support a shared vision for a more secure, stable and prosperous Indo-Pacific, in which Asean plays a central role,' she said. Wong, who was born in Malaysia and raised in Australia, said her life story reflects the reality of modern Australian society. 'My story, like that of many Australians, is a modern Australian story — almost half of all Australians were born overseas or have a parent who was born overseas,' she said. She emphasised that this multicultural background is one of Australia's key strengths in building strong international relationships, including with Southeast Asian nations. 'It helps us find common ground with people across the world, including in Southeast Asia,' she added. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Anwar assures critical judiciary vacancies will be resolved soon, says Loke

SUBANG JAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has assured Pakatan Harapan (PH) members of parliament that a decision will be made soon to fill critical vacancies in the judiciary. Transport Minister Anthony Loke, who was present at the meeting yesterday, said the decision would be reached following the Conference of Rulers' meeting tomorrow. "We have received the full picture from the Prime Minister. "In cabinet, he had mentioned the matter and we were briefed from time to time, but yesterday he gave an overall briefing to our backbenchers so that they are fully informed of what is going on. "He made it very clear that a decision will be made soon to fill the vacancies. The biggest concern right now is the vacancies in the top tier of the judiciary, especially the position of Chief Justice. "He also made it clear that he will present the matter to the Conference of Rulers tomorrow, and we hope that once they have given their consent, a decision will be announced," he told reporters after attending the launch of the 2025 Malaysia Maritime Week here today. Yesterday, Anwar held a one-and-a-half-hour meeting with PH MPs. Anwar, who is PH chairman and PKR president, left the complex at 5.53pm.
