Defending champions China were drawn in the same group in Sydney Tuesday as three-time winners North Korea for the 2026 Women's Asian Cup, while powerhouse Japan will take on Vietnam, India and Taiwan.
China are gunning for a 10th title and will also face tournament debutants Bangladesh and Uzbekistan in Group B at the showpiece event in Perth, Gold Coast and Sydney from March 1–21 next year.
Japan, the highest FIFA-ranked team in the competition at seven, are top seeds in Group C, aiming to add to their 2014 and 2018 triumphs.
They will be making their 18th Asian Cup appearance and 16th in a row -– both records.
Hosts Australia, the 2010 winners, have their work cut out in Group A with 2022 runners-up South Korea, Iran and the Philippines.
They will be looking to channel the home support that drove them to the semi-finals at the 2023 World Cup on home soil.
The top two sides from each group, along with the two best third-placed teams, progress to the quarter-finals, with the top six finishers booking their tickets to the 2027 World Cup in Brazil.
Group A - Australia, South Korea, Iran, Philippines
Group B - North Korea, China, Bangladesh, Uzbekistan

Liverpool UNLOCK move for Alexander Isak after striker bid confirmed

Liverpool were knocked back in their first formal approach for Alexander Isak. Newcastle informed the Reds they had NO WISH to conduct business over the 25-year-old striker. Liverpool's bid was believed to be in the region of £120m - with Isak now pushing hard for a move away. It's been claimed that TWO factors are holding up the potential record-breaking transfer. Shop the LFC Store 🚨2025/26 LFC x adidas range🚨 LFC x adidas Shop the home range today! LFC x adidas Shop the goalkeeper range today LFC x adidas Shop the new adidas range today! One - Newcastle's valuation. Eddie Howe's side do not want to sell Alexander Isak - but these are far from ideal circumstances. He does not want a new contract and has asked to explore a transfer away from St. James' Park this summer. The Sweden hitman is under contract until 2028 - meaning Newcastle are well within their rights to ask for a big fee. That price has been reported at £150m - although a deal could possibly be done around the £135m-mark. Newcastle find a breakthrough Liverpool's bid will have to rise from its current level at around £120m. And secondly - Newcastle need strikers. Having lost Callum Wilson, the only other specialist in the position that Howe has got at his disposal is untested William Osula. The Magpies have been chasing forwards throughout the transfer window but have been frustrated in their attempts to add to their strike line. But now a breakthrough is on the horizon - which in turn could unlock Liverpool's deal for Isak. Newcastle bidding for Sesko That's because several sources - including Newcastle insider Keith Downie - are reporting that a bid has been made for Benjamin Sesko. The Slovenian, 22, is under contract at RB Leipzig but it's believed that he will be allowed to leave this summer should certain conditions be met. Newcastle are competing with Manchester United for this transfer - but appear to have struck first. Sesko in, Isak out? 'Newcastle have made a formal bid to RB Leipzig for Benjamin Sesko,' Downie writes on X. 'The bid is €75 + €5m — which matches Leipzig's valuation. (£65.5m + £4.3m) 'NUFC have presented their vision to the Slovenian striker and made it clear they want the deal to happen. 'Sesko is considering his situation with Manchester United also at the table. He is open to both projects.' So now we play the waiting game. Newcastle have been rejected this summer by the likes of Joao Pedro, Bryan Mbeumo and Hugo Ekitike - who joined Liverpool for an initial £69m. Despite their Champions League status, Eddie Howe is finding it difficult to attract star names to the North East. Let's see what happens with Sesko - who is being lined up as the crucial domino in Liverpool's Isak deal.

Indianapolis Colts LB Zaire Franklin making training camp debut

Indianapolis Colts' linebacker Zaire Franklin was on the field and warming up prior to Saturday's training camp practice. Franklin has yet to practice during training camp up to this point as he continued to recover from offseason ankle surgery. Earlier in the week, Shane Steichen expressed his optimism that Franklin would be able to return fairly soon. It appears that time has now come. Now, there may still be a ramp-up period for Franklin. Just because he's warming up may not mean that he goes through team drills today. We will have to wait and see what the practice plan is. Franklin is coming off a career year in which he led the NFL in tackles, while also setting career highs in sacks and interceptions. He made his first Pro Bowl and was named a second-team All-Pro as well. Being paired with Jaylon Carlies, who brings a coverage element to the position as a former safety, and operating in Lou Anarumo's defensive back-heavy scheme, should all benefit Franklin, who could, as a result, see added opportunities near the line of scrimmage this season, which is where he's at his best. Wolves battling Napoli for signing of Sevilla star

A new suitor have positioned themselves firmly in the race for Sevilla star Juanlu Sánchez. That's according to market insider Fabrizio Romano, who points towards Wolverhampton Wanderers as the outfit in question. The subject of defender Juanlu's future has of course been a prominent one in the Spanish media headlines across the summer to date. This comes after widespread confirmation was forthcoming that the 21-year-old had positioned himself front and centre on the transfer wishlist of Italian champions Napoli. With Sevilla in a trying financial situation at present, talks, in turn, had long been kicked into gear between the two clubs. As alluded to above, though, this week, Napoli have been rivalled in their pursuit of Juanlu. As per a report from journalist Fabrizio Romano: 'Wolves are pushing in talks to sign Juanlu after Napoli have been in negotiations for 1 month. Juanlu has agreed personal terms with Napoli, Wolves are trying with better proposal to Sevilla.' Conor Laird – GSFN
