Birmingham restaurants recognised with Michelin awards
Tropea was also celebrated by the guide for its Italian wine list, which was said to be "great value"."Its simple, ingredient-led dishes and high-quality homemade pastas, can all be enjoyed in a buzzing environment", it added. The restaurant and bar is co-owned by Ben Robinson Young and Kasia Piatkowska, who said the award means "so much" to them. "It represents what we hoped Tropea would become: a restaurant that serves great food, that's good value, cooked with care and served with love", they said.
Riverine Rabbit, which is owned by Erin and Ash Valenzuela-Heeger and specialises in small plates with south-east Asian flavours, was described as a "terrific counter restaurant". Co-owner and chef, Ash said: "We're chuffed to bits, it means a lot to us because we have worked so hard over the last couple of years."Our restaurant is quite unique, it's one big chef's table, I cook right in front of you, I'm handing you the plates and telling you all about the ingredients."Erin Valenzuela-Heeger said working alongside her wife is a great way to spend time together. "It's incredible getting to work with Ash and delivering incredibly high-standard food, watching the person you love doing what they love, is also an incredible thing to witness day in day out."We get on so well and I think it shows to anyone who comes to the restaurant, most people comment on it, especially those who come with their other half."
'Exciting young talent'
Ash Valenzuela-Heeger, who is originally from South Africa, has also been recognised with the Michelin Young Chef Award. The Michelin inspectors said Ms Valenzuela-Heeger was an example of "exciting young talent" and her cooking had "generated a buzz in Brummie circles". "We always say we strive to be 1% better everyday, so I have no doubt this time next year we will be even better than we are now", Ms Valenzuela-Heeger added.

They woke me up at 6am after an 18 hour tour bus journey. I was tired and they said it was room service. "The Brixton thing in me said 'Ding ding'. "There were no tray and I thought something was wrong. I cussed the guy and he said he would come back. "It was just about 6am. They found the guy from my description. I did a Karen and said 'I want to speak to the manager'. "The hotel said they had to let him go as our stories did not match up. "They said he was looking for his girlfriend but it was dodgy. "In the end the manager tells me there is no case." The star explained that things could have been a lot worse had she not been alert. "You know sometimes in your life when you have steam blowing," Skin said. "I had to take myself away from this man and the situation. We made the hotel look at the cameras to get a picture of this man. Pop star continues making new music - after hits in the 90s "He was leaning up against my door. He could have pushed the door in with a knife or he could have had Chloroform. "Who knows what would have happened. But I am a fighter and that is going to get me in trouble." Following the scary ordeal, the singer said they are now forced to be more vigilant when staying at hotels. The musician continued: "Now I will have to get one of those little lock things to put in the door. If you are in a band you will need to get one. It can happen to you. "Don't wait for something awful to happen. "Put better security and cameras into your hotels and key cards so you can use the lift. "I am still vexed even telling the story. Never open your door at weird times useless you know who is there." Skin claimed the hotel is continuing to "review their security systems" to increase the hotel guests protection. The hitmaker added: "I'm not trying to get anyone fired, my life mantra is that prevention is better than a cure. Hotels can do a lot to make their clients safe. "The reaction should not be to automatically pit my word against someone clearly being dodgy because you didn't catch him camera doing it. But thanks to Pullman Hotels for listening and doing something about it, that is much appreciated." Skin is lead vocalist of Skunk Anansie. In 2015, Skin joined the judging panel of the Italian version of talent competition The X Factor for one season. The band, which was formed back in 1994, released three albums and sold more than five million records worldwide. They are best know for their 1995 hit Weak. They split in 2001, before reforming in 2009. As of 2024 the band have released six studio albums and toured with including music legends David Bowie, U2, and Lenny Kravitz. 6 The band was formed back in 1994 Credit: Getty 6 They are best know for their 1995 hit Weak Credit: Handout

Rod Stewart says 'it tore me to shreds' as he speaks about marriage breakdown
Rod Stewart has opened up about his marriage to his second wife Rachel Hunter, and has claimed that she left him because she was "too young" when they tied the knot Sir Rod Stewart has candidly discussed the collapse of his marriage to his second wife, Rachel Hunter. The 80-year-old rock legend was first married to Alana Hamilton from 1979 to 1984, with whom he shares daughter Kimberly and son Sean. Following the end of this relationship, Rod tied the knot with ex-model Rachel, who was a whopping 26 years his junior. When they said their vows, Rachel was just 21 and Rod was 45. A year later, they welcomed their daughter Renee, and son Liam followed soon after. It's suggested that the 'Maggie May' singer met his current spouse, Penny Lancaster, merely a day after parting ways with Rachel in 1999. Reminiscing about their initial encounter, he shared that Penny sought his autograph, which led him to ask her if she enjoyed dancing. "She was an incredible dancer, gorgeous, [and wearing] 6ft 4in heels," he fondly remembered, during a chat with The Times. Despite being instantly smitten with the Loose Women star, Rod confesses he was counselled to enjoy single life for a bit post his split from Rachel. "There were six months between Rachel and Penny because my bass player, who had Penny's number, wouldn't give it to me," he revealed to the newspaper. "He said, 'All you're going to do now is s**g around'. And he was right, I had a splendid time in those six months." Rod and Rachel officially ended their marriage in 2006, and a year later, he wed Penny, the mother of his two sons. "Rachel left me because she was too young. My sister said I should never have married her in the first place, but it tore me to shreds," he opened up. Reflecting on his relationship with Penny, he added that she's "got everything" he's ever desired. Their union has now spanned 18 years, and the couple is still as close as ever. Last week, Penny showed her unwavering support as Rod took on the legends slot at Glastonbury's iconic Pyramid stage. Also showing their support were the couple's sons Alastair, 19, and Aiden, 14, alongside Renee and Ruby, Rod's daughter with ex-partner and model Kelly Emberg. Before Rod's performance at the music festival, he and Penny celebrated their 18th wedding anniversary in grand fashion. To commemorate the occasion, they took a trip on the opulent Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, retracing the romantic stops from their engagement, wedding, and honeymoon journey. It was in Paris where Rod proposed to Penny, before they exchanged vows two years later in Portofino, Italy, which was then followed by an indulgent honeymoon on board a luxury yacht along the Italian coast.
