18 Teams Vie For Glory At National-Level Lion Dance Competition
Teams from Kuala Lumpur, Johor, Selangor, Kelantan and Melaka are taking part in the maiden competition, organised by the Asahan State Assembly Development and Coordination Committee Office (Japerun).
Asahan state assemblyman Datuk Fairul Nizam Roslan said the event was organised as a platform to foster unity and appreciate the cultural and artistic heritage of the multi-racial community in the country.

ISLAMABAD, July 31 (Bernama-dpa) -- Rescuers in Pakistan abandoned plans to retrieve the body of twice Olympic biathlon champion Laura Dahlmeier of Germany to respect her last wish and avoid risking more lives, fellow climber Thomas Huber told dpa on Thursday. Dahlmeier, 31, was swept away in a rockfall close to the summit of the 6,069 metres Laila Peak in the Karakoram mountain range on Monday, her management and local officials said. She was declared dead on Wednesday evening after air and ground operations to rescue her from the Laila Peak in the Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) region was not successful. bootstrap slideshow Pakistani officials said on Wednesday that rescue teams led by international climbers and local high-altitude porters would launch a new operation to retrieve her body. "When we saw Laura's body it was clear that she (had) left us. As experienced mountain climbers we decided to not go and retrieve her body,' Huber, who's in the GB region, told dpa over the phone. 'They body was in a very difficult terrain which would have meant a great risk for the rescue team,' said Huber, also a German who was part of the team that went up to rescue Dahlmeier. 'We decided to respect Laura's last wish. She didn't want anyone to risk his or her life to retrieve her.' Pakistan's northern region is home to several stunning peaks including some towering more than 8,000 metres high. The region attracts hundreds of mountaineers from all over the world including from Europe every year. Accidents, sometimes deadly, are common during these expeditions especially on K2 and Nanga Parbat, both 8,000 meters peaks.

Pandelela bugged by shoulder injury, pulls out of world meet

(EPA Images pic) PETALING JAYA : A recurring left shoulder injury has forced diver Pandelela Rinong to withdraw from the women's 10m platform individual event at the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore today. The two-time Olympic medallist (one silver, one bronze) said the decision was made after careful consideration, as the injury would prevent her from competing safely or being at her best. 'I'm truly grateful for all the kind messages and concern for my wellbeing. I promise to take better care of my body as I focus on healing and prepare for the next opportunity to represent Malaysia,' Bernama reported her as saying in a Facebook post. Pandelela, 32, said she would continue to cheer on her fellow teammates in Singapore. 'Please join me in sending them our support, luck and prayers as they continue to compete for Malaysia,' she said. On Monday, Pandelela was competing with Lee Yiat Qing in the 10m platform synchronised event when she had to withdraw after two dives because of the injury, which she sustained earlier this month. Lee, 17, failed to advance to the 10m platform semi-finals after finishing outside the top 18 in the preliminaries at the OCBC Aquatic Centre today. She finished 29th with a total of 240.20 points after five dives. National swimmers Khiew Hoe Yean and Tan Khai Xin also failed to advance in their respective events. Khiew, a two-time SEA Games gold medallist, clocked 50.77s in the men's 100m freestyle to finish seventh in his heat and 50th out of 110 swimmers, while Tan clocked 2m 7.07s in the men's 200m medley to end up ninth in his heat and 40th overall.

Malaysia to host 2027 SEA Games, boosting global image
KUALA LUMPUR: The opportunity to host the 2027 SEA Games will be leveraged to elevate Malaysia's global standing, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced today. Speaking during the tabling of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) in Parliament, Anwar emphasised the event's role in showcasing the nation's capabilities. 'Besides the 2027 SEA Games, Malaysia will host several other international sporting events in the next five years,' he said. 'This opportunity will strengthen Malaysia's image internationally and serve as a platform to foster unity among Malaysians.' The 2027 SEA Games will be held across multiple states, including Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak, Penang, and Johor. Malaysia has a strong history as a host, having previously organised the biennial event in 1965, 1971, 1977, 1989, 2001, and 2017.
