Tesco, Asda, Morrisons and Boots urgently recall two products over health fears

Daily Mirror29-05-2025
The Food Standards Agency has issued a warning to customers who have purchased Myprotein Gooey Filled Cookie Double Chocolate and Caramel, as the product could cause abdominal discomfort, headaches, and brain fog
Tesco, Asda, Morrisons, and Boots are urgently recalling two Myprotein Gooey Filled Cookie products due to health risk concerns after it was found they could cause abdominal discomfort, headaches, and brain fog.
The companies have warned customers about possible health risks linked to the Myprotein Gooey Filled Cookie Double Chocolate and Caramel that may contain an undeclared wheat protein harmful to those with allergies or intolerances and coeliac disease sufferers.

Issuing guidance, the Food Standards Agency stated:

"If you have bought the above product and have coeliac disease, and/or an allergy or intolerance to wheat or gluten, do not eat it.
"Instead return it to the store from where it was purchased for a full refund."
The affected products include both the 75g single cookie and the box of 12 x 75g of Myprotein Gooey Filled Cookie - Double Chocolate and Caramel.

These bear best before dates of June 17, 2025, and July 16, 2026, with all batch codes involved in the recall—identifiable by barcode 505610458721, reports Bristol Live.
According to a report by the Express, the issue arose from an ingredient containing undisclosed wheat protein used in manufacturing the cookies, leading to potential health threats for individuals with certain dietary restrictions.
This labelling mistake raises serious health concerns especially for the estimated half a million UK residents living with coeliac disease, an autoimmune condition that is exacerbated by gluten consumption.
In rare cases, allergies to wheat or gluten can trigger a potentially deadly reaction, with symptoms usually beginning within minutes of eating the food.
THG Nutrition Limited, the maker of the product, has contacted relevant allergy support groups to inform their members.

BREAKING NEWS 'Do not eat' warning issued as major supermarket urgently recalls massively popular ready meal due to deadly risk

Waitrose is urgently recalling one of its popular ready meals after it emerged that some packs had been mispacked and contain undeclared allergens. The Waitrose Indian Takeaway for 2 has been pulled from shelves because 'some packs have been mispacked with spring rolls, which contain sesame and soya... not mentioned on the label.' According to the Food Standards Agency (FSA), 'this means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to sesame and/or soya.' The affected product is the Waitrose Indian Takeaway for 2 (1,412g pack size) with a use by date of 25 July 2025. Sesame allergies can be life-threatening. In 2016, 15-year-old Natasha Ednan-Laperouse collapsed and died after eating a baguette from Pret a Manger that contained sesame seeds not listed on the label. Her death triggered a major overhaul in food labelling laws. So-called Natasha's Law, introduced in 2021, requires all pre-packed for direct sale foods to carry full ingredient lists and allergen information on the label. Customers who have purchased the item are advised: 'If you have bought the above product and have an allergy to sesame and/or soya, do not eat it. Instead, return it to your local Waitrose and Partners branch for a full refund.' More to follow.

Epic fundraiser to say thank you to Dumfries and Galloway's healthcare heroes

Jim McLelland's One Big Thank You is returning to Castle Douglas this weekend as he bids to walk, run and job for 12 hours straight. An epic fundraiser to say thank you to Dumfries and Galloway's healthcare heroes will take place this weekend. ‌ Jim McLelland will run, walk and jog round Lochside Park in Castle Douglas for 12 hours straight on Sunday. ‌ He'll set off at 6am and there will be fun for all the family from 11am until Jim finishes at 6pm. ‌ The 72-year-old from Crossmichael first held his One Big Thank You last year, raising £26,000 in the process to be split between the Alexandra Unit at DGRI and staff support. He said: 'The hospital belongs to all of us. If we do the right things, then the folk there get to see we appreciate what we do. 'We're short of nurses and doctors. Maybe if a doctor has the opportunity of two jobs, they'll look at Dumfries and Galloway and see everyone appreciates the hospital. ‌ 'It could be the difference between them coming and going somewhere else. 'I'd like to try to get people to sponsor bits and come on as partners through their businesses to help raise money. 'The folk from the NHS can see they're doing something for them and hopefully use their facilities.' ‌ Jim has taken on the challenge in tribute to wife Ruth, who died at DGRI's Alexandra Unit in 2023. Sunday's challenge is just days before she would have turned 68. His first wife Diane, died in the unit at the old hospital in 1994. People are welcome to keep Jim company and there will be a real festival atmosphere in the park. ‌ There will be plenty of live music, food and drink as well as bikes, cars and tractors to look at, along with lots of other entertainment. Jim reckons he has put up 300 posters across the region advertising what is happening - and his fame is growing. He said: 'In Gretna there must have been five people who recognised me from last year and when I was in Tesco in Lockerbie people said I'd been on TV. 'When I started, someone said it will take three years for folk to know what you're doing - maybe it will do and I'll have to go again next year.'
