Juventus defender Savona out of Club World Cup with ankle injury
Juventus defender Nicolo Savona will play no further part in the Club World Cup after he suffered an ankle injury during his side's 5-2 loss to Manchester City, the Italian club said on Friday, with the player set for over a month on the sidelines.
The 22-year-old Italian had started all three group games for Juventus, but left the pitch on the hour mark after going over on his ankle in Thursday's heavy defeat and he was replaced by Federico Gatti.
Juventus reported that Savona underwent diagnostic tests on his left ankle, which showed a high-grade capsular ligament injury. The player has begun his rehabilitation process and will be re-evaluated in a month's time.
The loss to City meant Juventus finished second in Group G and will face Real Madrid in the last 16 on Tuesday in Miami. Gatti, who also replaced Savona in Juve's opening win over Al Ain, is most likely to slot into Igor Tudor's back three.

Giroud to leave Los Angeles FC
Los Angeles, June 28 (UNI) French striker Olivier Giroud said Friday that he had reached an agreement to leave Los Angeles FC after just one year with the Major League Soccer club. The 38-year-old, whose contract had been due to expire in December, will make his last appearance for LAFC in a home match against Vancouver on Sunday. "I want to thank all of the fans, my teammates and the staff at LAFC for making this an enjoyable stop in my career," Giroud said in a statement. "I am happy to have played a part in the success of LAFC. From winning a trophy last season to participating in the Club World Cup, this has been a great experience in LA for me and my family." Giroud scored five goals in 37 appearances for the Californian side after joining from AC Milan in May 2024. He featured in all three of the club's matches at the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States - twice as a substitute - but failed to score as LAFC bowed out before the knockout phase. The 2018 World Cup winner and France's all-time leading scorer is expected to join Ligue 1 club Lille on a free transfer. "Olivier has been an exemplary professional during his time at LAFC," general manager John Thorrington said. "He brought humility and a winning mentality that helped elevate everyone around him.
