Industry body Nasscom on Friday said it is launching the US CEO Forum in New York that would bring together leading Indian technology CEOs and influential US stakeholders to drive strategic dialogue across innovation, enterprise, policy, and talent development.In an era defined by digital disruption, frontier technologies, and global rebalancing, tech collaboration has emerged as a central pillar of bilateral engagement, spanning artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, quantum computing, digital public infrastructure, green energy, and resilient supply chains, the apex association for the IT industry said.The United States and India share one of the world's most strategic and future-facing technology partnerships, it further emphasised."To further deepen this collaboration, Nasscom is launching the US CEO Forum at the Consulate General of India in New York on July 9, 2025. The Forum will bring together leading Indian technology CEOs and influential US stakeholders to drive high-level strategic dialogue across innovation, enterprise, policy, and talent development," according to the release.Over and beyond a single event, the Forum will drive ongoing engagements across US tech hubs such as Washington DC, San Francisco, and Texas, building a strong network of champions for Indian tech in the US to foster growth, co-innovation, and policy alignment.Conceived as a premier leadership platform, the Nasscom US CEO Forum aims to elevate India-US tech collaboration by convening a cross-section of leaders from government, industry, investment, think tanks, academia, and the Indian diaspora.Nasscom said that the Forum aligns with the larger vision of bolstering trade and economic ties, reinforcing the USD 500 billion bilateral trade target outlined by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump and underscores the key role of the tech sector in achieving it."The US CEO Forum will serve as a sustained engagement platform to reinforce the India-US tech corridor as a foundation for global digital transformation and inclusive economic growth," it said.Rajesh Nambiar, President of Nasscom, said the launch of the US CEO Forum marks an important step in strengthening 'Brand India' on the global stage. Indian technology companies are not only powering digital transformation across the US but also creating jobs, investing in local communities, and driving innovation that delivers real impact, he noted."This Forum will serve as a strategic platform to deepen partnerships, align with key stakeholders, and position Indian tech as a vital contributor to America's growth story," Nambiar said.The Forum will look to deepen India-US tech partnership from collaboration to co-creation, unleashing the transformative potential of AI, semiconductors, clean tech, and future skills. It will also explore how cross-border partnerships can build resilient, secure, and innovation-led digital ecosystems."With the foundational theme 'India Tech for America's Growth', the Nasscom US CEO Forum positions Indian technology as a strategic partner in shaping the digital century," the release said.

India, U.S. presently engaged in active negotiations on Bilateral Trade Agreement: Govt in Parliament
Teams of both India and the U.S. are presently engaged in "active negotiations" on the Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA), the government informed Parliament on Thursday (July 24, 2025). In a written response to a query in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh also said, "Discussions are aimed at adopting an integrated approach to further strengthen and deepen bilateral trade relations, including through enhanced mutual market access, reduction of tariff and non-tariff barriers, and closer integration of supply chains." The Ministry of External Affairs was asked by Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi whether the government has taken note of the recent announcement by the U.S. administration regarding the reimposition of tariffs on Indian exports. "On the sidelines of the Quad Foreign Ministers' Meeting held in Washington, DC on 1 July 2025, the External Affairs Minister referred to the Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) negotiations that are going on between India and the U.S.," Mr. Singh said. Both sides acknowledged the importance of "maintaining positive momentum" in these negotiations and expressed their commitment to an early conclusion of the first tranche of a mutually beneficial, multi-sector BTA, the MoS said. "The trade teams of both countries are presently engaged in active negotiations on the Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA)," he added. Mr. Singh said that on April 2, 2025, the U.S. announced the imposition of additional ad valorem reciprocal duties on 185 countries (including the European Union). As per the order, a 10% tariff was imposed on all countries effective April 5 this year. From April 9, this was to be revised to "country-specific tariffs". "The reciprocal tariff applicable to India was fixed at 26%. Subsequently, a 90-day pause, till 9 July 2025, was authorised with substantially lower reciprocal tariff of 10 per cent. On 7 July 2025, the implementation date for the reciprocal tariffs was further extended from 9 July 2025 to 1 August 2025," he added.

IIM-N to teach foreign languages to hone desi skills with global edge
Nagpur: The premier B-school, IIM Nagpur, is now planning to teach foreign languages in the perfect business accent. Starting off with teaching practical Japanese, including all the business and technical jargon, the institute also intends to begin courses in Korean, Spanish, and French in coming days. To facilitate Japanese language teaching, the institute is considering collaboration with the automobile giant Suzuki Corporation to source experts. Bringing in a trainer directly from a business organization is expected to help deliver the language in a more practical and industry-relevant manner. Additionally, a partnership with the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) is being explored. This initiative was revealed by IIM director Bhimraya Metri during the inaugural session of Viksit Bharat 2024: Global Perspective to Shape India's Future Workforce and Industry Partnership. Metri told TOI that the objective behind this move is to equip not only management graduates but also the broader workforce across various professions to take up jobs in foreign countries, especially Japan. Japan faces significant manpower shortage due to its ageing population — a gap that India can help fill. Learning Japanese would facilitate the integration of the Indian workforce into Japanese businesses. There is a substantial demand for skilled manpower in Japan. Even passouts from Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) can be trained in Japanese, which would boost their employability, including with Japanese companies operating in India, Metri said. IIM Nagpur's plan is to prepare Indian talent for global opportunities. Shortly after the seminar, UAE-based Octagon, led by managing director Sukant Mishra, participated in the event and extended a pre-placement offer (PPO) to IIM-N students. This means that students may be absorbed into the company if they prove suitable during the internships, Metri added. Former member of Parliament Ajay Sancheti, who was chief guest on the occasion, recalled his early experiences in Singapore, describing how India has now transformed into a global growth engine. He urged the students to think beyond urban development and contribute to inclusive national growth.

'The leaders celebrated the landmark UK-India Free Trade Agreement, which was signed today and will see growth in every part of the country – delivering on the government's Plan for Change,' 10 Downing Street said in a readout of the prime ministerial engagement at Chequers. 'The leaders also discussed the importance of the UK-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which will see closer collaboration on trade, defence, security, technology and education – underscored by the close and historic relationship between the two countries,' the statement said. 'The leaders also discussed the Air India plane crash last month, and said their sympathies are with all the families and loved ones of the victims. The Prime Minister said the UK will continue to support all those affected by the tragedy,' it added. Modi has extended an invitation to Starmer to visit India, which the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said has been accepted and officials will now be working out the details. Downing Street noted that both leaders 'looked forward to seeing one another soon'.
