Ed Sheeran admits building his own village is 'weird' but he just wanted to give his family some privacy.
The pop star spent millions snapping up land and other homes around his mansion in Suffolk, England to create one massive estate which boasts a pub, a chapel and a lake - and Ed has revealed he just wanted some space where he could relax away from the spotlight.
During an appearance on the 'Call Her Daddy' podcast, Ed explained: 'We built a chapel on our land, and we do Christmas carols there.
'And then after the Christmas carols, everyone comes in for mulled wine and mince pies and stuff. We can hold 40 or 50 people [in the pub], but it 'slike a crammed space ...
'I know it sounds weird to sort of build an infrastructure on your property where you don't have to leave it … There's certain moments you just want to spend with your family and not have someone filming you while you're doing it, especially whether it's something like that, like Christmas.'
The pub he built is called the Lancaster Lock - a combination of the last names of his mother and his wife Cherry's mom - and is modelled on a boozer he used to go to as a teenager.
He added of the space: 'You can never really let loose the way that you used to be able to, as in my teenage years, you know, you go to a pub to blow off steam.
'I think it sort of turned into, everyone always knew that I went to this place, and there was a dilapidated barn on my land. I was like, we could just turn it into a pub ...
He went on to add that he's filled the pub with his movie prop collection and he's added a cinema and a listening room.

Ed Sheeran showcases debut collection of Jackson Pollock-esque art
Ed Sheeran has swapped a microphone for paint brushes, with the fruits of his endeavours to go on display later this week, the London gallery exhibiting his works has confirmed. The abstract pieces - colourful Jackson Pollock-esque paintings and prints - will be available to buy, with profits going to the Ed Sheeran Foundation, which supports musical education in schools. They are also set to be exhibited at Heni art gallery in central London from Friday 11 July until Friday 1 August, with the collection called Cosmic Carpark Paintings, the gallery said. Sheeran, 34, behind hits like Shape of You and Perfect, took to social media earlier this week to share the news, explaining he worked on the paintings last year in between shows. He also shared a video of his painting process at work, showing him splashing large canvases with brightly coloured paint. 'I love painting, more for fun and to give to friends, but this time I was encouraged to do a show of them by @damienhirst and @heni,' he posted on Instagram. 'I paint when I'm not working on a record, just to do something creative with my brain. And it's mostly just splashing colours on canvases, think Jackson Pollock but with colourful house paint.' Sheeran added that does not make him 'an artist' but noted that he loves 'making art' and that 'it makes me feel great, and I love the end result'. Heni, which said Sheeran's 'painting journey' began in 2019 following his record-breaking Divide tour, noted he used one of his earlier creations as the official artwork for his single Afterglow in 2020. The colourful pieces in his debut collection were 'inspired by celestial patterns' and painted in a disused London car park last year, it added. Singer, songwriter, and performer Sheeran is one of the most listened to artists in the world. He also makes the list of the 40 richest people under 40 in the UK, with a fortune estimated at £370 million, according to The Sunday Times' latest annual wealth rankings of Britons.

The 48-year-old actor has been over to the UK a lot over the past two decades during his time as a WWE superstar, and he's embraced the local cuisine to the point that he went for a very traditional meal before Tuesday's Heads of State world premiere in London. Appearing on ITV daytime show This Morning, he said: 'I enjoyed [fish and chips] so much that right before our premiere last night, we had about 90 minutes and myself and my two friends, all from America, we sat down, we ordered fish and chips, we had a pint, and that got us ready for the world premiere.' John - who revealed he went for vinegar and a little bit of dunking in the tartar sauce' - got more of a taste for a chippy after the dish plays a role in his new movie with Idris Elba. The Hollywood star also opened up on his admiration for a 'savoury breakfast', which he learned to love during his early WWE days. He added: 'All savoury! In America, we tend to lean on the sweet.
