Former RTE presenter's semi-detached Dublin home on the market for €2.25m

Former RTÉ Broadcaster Thelma Mansfield is selling her semi-detached home in Dublin for over €2m. The daytime presenter, who hosted RTÉ's Live at 3 until the late 90s, has lived in the Glenageary home for over 40 years.
5 Rus-In-Urbe on Glenageary Road Lower is described as a charming Georgian family home dating back to 1840. The five bed, four bath 235m2 house is on the market with Sherry FitzGerald for €2,250,000.
Thelma decided to sell the house, which she raised her children in, after her husband John Morris died in 2022. The home features long sash windows, parking for up to three cars and a lush lawn area out the front and back.
Inside, the entrance hallway is flooded with natural light on bright days as folding double doors lead to a cosy dining room with a fireplace. The agent says the country style kitchen is undoubtedly the heart of the home, as it has original quarry tiled floors and bespoke cabinetry.
This country feel can be seen throughout the house, however with a modern twist. The light brown wooden doors and rustic floors pair well with the bright kitchen cabinets and white walls.
Two sets of Venetian double doors open out into the gorgeous courtyard that has been maintained by Thelma. She is a keen gardener and filled the lawns with colourful agapanthus, wisteria, olive trees and a fig tree.
After retiring from RTÉ in the late 1990s, the homeowner focused on her passion for painting. At the end of the garden is an original coach house which Thelma transformed into her art studio. The little space features a wood burning stove and shower room.

Conor McGregor's pub on fire as emergency services battle to contain the blaze

Firefighters were battling to put out a blaze at Conor McGregor's pub in Dublin on Friday morning. The emergency services were called after flames and thick clouds of smoke were seen coming from the Black Forge Inn on the Drimnagh Road. Firefighters and a squad of police sped to the Dublin pub, which UFC star McGregor bought for close to €2 million in 2019. The Dublin boozer has previously been the target of a petrol bomb attack. In 2022, less than a year after McGregor reopened the pub after pumping millions into a renovation, Garda were called to investigate after two petrol bombs were thrown at the premises. The fire caused damage to the front panel of Conor McGregor's Black Forge Inn in Crumlin (Image: Colin Keegan, Collins Dublin) McGregor subsequently offered a €50,000 reward for anyone who could identify the suspects, sharing CCTV footage of the incident on social media. Over the years, the pub has grown into a popular hangout for visiting celebrities in Dublin. A few weeks ago, American rapper 50 Cent partied with McGregor at the Dublin pub, which has also hosted the likes of comedian Kevin Hart and Arsenal legend Ian Wright. The fire at the Black Forge Inn comes after what has been a turbulent week for McGregor. The 37-year-old, who is engaged to his long-time partner Dee Devlin, has made headlines for being caught kissing a mystery woman on a Florida beach. Following on from that scandal, US rapper Azealia Banks alleged that the Crumlin man sent her a series of unwanted explicit images. Last year a High Court jury in Dublin ordered McGregor to pay damages of almost €250,000 to Nikki Hand, 35, after a much-publicised civil case in which the Dublin woman alleged that the former UFC world champion had raped her.

Landmark ruling against RTÉ as WRC tribunal finds Fair City photographer was not a freelancer

RTÉ has failed to have employment rights claims by the former on-set photographer for Fair City thrown out, after the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) ruled, for the first time, that a supposed freelancer at the national broadcaster was actually an employee. The statutory complaints were brought by photographer, Beta Bajgart, who was previously the subject of commentary at the Public Accounts Committee when it emerged the national broadcaster was paying €60,000 per year for promotional images of the Dublin-based soap opera.

Banksy work The Migrant Child removed from Venetian palazzo for restoration

Art restorers have removed a deteriorating piece of graffiti by the street artist Banksy titled The Migrant Child from the side of a building overlooking a Venetian canal to preserve the work for future public display, officials said. The removal from the wall of Palazzo San Pantalon was carried out in consultation with people close to the secretive British street artist, according to officials at the Venice-based bank Banca Ifis's art programme that promotes art and culture. The artwork depicting a shipwrecked child holding a pink smoke bomb and wearing a lifejacket appeared along Rio di San Pantalon in Venice in May 2019, and was acknowledged by Banksy. Marked on online maps, it has become a tourist destination. The restoration is being overseen by Federico Borgogni, who previously removed dust and cleaned the surface before detaching a section of the palazzo's facade overnight on Wednesday, Banca Ifis said. The bank is financing the project, but did not release the cost of the operation. The bank intends to display the work to the public as part of free cultural events organised by Ifis art once restoration is completed. No time frame was given.
