Apart from members of the BBMP Restructuring Committee, former Chief Secretary B. S. Patil, retired IAS officer Siddaiah, and V. Ravichandar, former bureaucrats Jayakar Jerome and S. R. Umashankar will be getting the award this year.
Other awardees include B. S. Satish Kumar, Deputy Chief of Bureau, The Hindu, Karnataka. Civic activists R. K. Mishra and Padmashree Balaram, tennis player Mahesh Bhupati, singer Sangeeta Katti, advocate M. S. Shyamsundar, and cable operator V. S. Patrick Raju also figure in the list of awardees.

Watch the video here: Three officials suspended On Wednesday, the BBMP suspended three officials revenue inspector Ramesh, tax collector Peddaraju, and assistant revenue officer C Senthil Kumar, for dereliction of duty in the ongoing caste census exercise for Scheduled Castes. According to the suspension order issued by BBMP East Zone Zonal Commissioner Snehal R on July 2, the officials failed to ensure that the enumerators completed the survey process before affixing stickers on homes. The instructions required that stickers be placed only after contacting residents, completing the enumeration, and uploading the collected data via a mobile application. However, it was found that in several cases, the stickers were affixed without any contact with homeowners, in violation of the protocol. In response to the criticism, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah defended the intent behind the exercise and urged the public not to panic. 'Is there any problem in applying online? We will do enumeration online, or approach door-to-door and in the camps. You just have to tell your caste using any of the three means. This is related to only the Scheduled Caste,' he told reporters according to PTI. The incident has triggered criticism from opposition leaders, who have accused the Congress government of mishandling the caste census despite the sensitive nature of the exercise and the significant public funds allocated to it. Karnataka anti-corruption body confirms own officials involved in bribery
In a major embarrassment for Karnataka's anti-corruption watchdog, the state Lokayukta has confirmed that two of its own personnel were involved in a bribery and money-laundering racket targeting government officials.A press note issued by the Lokayukta revealed that Srinath Joshi and police constable Ningappa allegedly extorted money from officials in the Excise Department and the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), the capital city's primary civic authority. The illegal collections were reportedly referred to using the codeword 'KG' to mask the investigation found that Srinath Joshi attempted to convert the bribe money into white money by routing it through cryptocurrency. He allegedly opened 24 crypto accounts, with transactions totalling over Rs 4 crore already traced in 13 of them. The Lokayukta confirmed that the probe is incident reignited concerns about internal corruption within the Lokayukta itself. Earlier, the Lokayukta had formally requested the formation of a dedicated 24-member vigilance unit to monitor its own staff. However, the state government rejected this request at the response to the revelations, the government has now stated it will take steps to reconstitute an internal surveillance mechanism, using staff transferred earlier from the Anti-Corruption Bureau to the Lokayukta.- Ends

The BBMP said he was suspended for 'carelessness, irresponsibility, and lack of interest in executing assigned duties.'advertisementAccording to the suspension order issued by the East Zone Commissioner, enumerators under his supervision were seen 'randomly affixing stickers without confirming with household members,' which is a 'clear breach of procedure.' The incident, captured on CCTV on June 27 and widely circulated on social media, prompted disciplinary action.
