Aston Villa midfielder a transfer option for Chelsea

Chelsea have included Morgan Rogers on a shortlist of potential transfer options this summer.
The West Londoners want to bring in another versatile attacker before September's deadline and Rogers is a player under consideration.
Chelsea concede prising the midfielder from Aston Villa would be difficult but Flashscore are reporting that the Blues are prepared to explore a deal.

Like Chelsea, Villa were fined for breaching UEFA's Financial Fair Play rules and could require a big sale before investment this summer.
Rogers has emerged as one of the Premier League's best young talents since arriving at Villa Park from Middlesbrough in January 2024.
The 22-year-old scored 14 goals and provided 15 assists across all competitions last season, form which has earned Rogers a role in the senior England squad. He has been nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year and is among the frontrunners for the prize, which will be announced next month.
Given his key role in Unai Emery's plans, Villa would only entertain huge offers for the midfielder.

Rogers is not the only player Chelsea are considering, with West Ham's Mohammed Kudus, Lyon winger Malick Fofana and Manchester United's Alejandro Garnacho also options.

Report Jashari ready to demand Milan transfer in Brugge crisis meeting

Ardon Jashari will reportedly demand Club Brugge release him to Milan this weekend, refusing to accept higher offers from Chelsea, Bayer Leverkusen or Neom. The player has made it very clear he wants to join the Rossoneri, a team he has supported since visiting San Siro as a child to watch them in action. He was left out of the squad for today's opening game of the season, but was placed into their European list. Jashari ready to break with Club Brugge BIRMINGHAM, ENGLAND – MARCH 12: Ardon Jashari of Club Brugge KV warms up prior to the UEFA Champions League 2024/25 Round of 16 Second Leg match between Aston Villa FC and Club Brugge KV at Villa Park on March 12, 2025 in Birmingham, England. (Photo by) According to Sky Sport Italia, Jashari has decided to take matters into his own hands and will confront Club Brugge chiefs in a crisis meeting over the weekend. He intends to demand a sale to Milan, who believe their offer worth €33.5m plus add-ons was entirely sufficient, especially as his agents maintain Brugge promised to sell if someone came in with a bid of €32.5m. Crucially, the Switzerland international will also warn that he has no intention of accepting any other club, even if Chelsea, Bayer Leverkusen and Saudi side Neom are ready to offer more money.

Levi Colwill backs Chelsea to compete for Premier League glory

Levi Colwill believes Chelsea have what it takes to challenge for the Premier League title, especially after beating the odds to win the Club World Cup. The Blues shocked the football world with an astonishing 3-0 win over Champions League holders Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup final. Not many people saw that coming, especially after PSG swatted aside Bayern Munich and Real Madrid in the previous rounds by a combined scoreline of 6-0. However, Chelsea thrived off being written off and delivered a performance that sent shockwaves throughout the world. The Blues also enjoyed a fantastic end to the 2024/25 campaign. They won 14 out of 16 games across all competitions, qualifying for the Champions League and winning the Europa Conference League in the process. For the first time since the Todd Boehly-Clearlake Consortium took over Chelsea, there is a real sense of progress which has been missing at Stamford Bridge over the past couple of years. But Colwill sees the recent success as a turning point. 'We had ups and downs like a lot of teams last season,' he told The Athletic. 'We still stayed around the top four and were never miles behind. With the fans, we really went all together and just pushed. 'When that happens, I feel something just lights up and you just win, win, win.' That unity carried Chelsea to international success. But what stood out most for Colwill was the lack of respect the team received heading into the final against PSG. 'It felt like no one thought we had half a chance, even in the final, and I thought that was very disrespectful,' he added. 'It gave us that fire in the belly, and we proved everyone wrong.' With the 2025/26 campaign just weeks away, Colwill is convinced Chelsea have what it takes to challenge for the biggest prizes and has his eyes on the Premier League title. 'We feel like we can definitely compete for the Premier League,' he said. 'The players we have in our squad are among the best, and we are really excited for this season, to once again prove people wrong.'

Cade Horton tosses 2-hit ball over 5 innings as Cubs beat Orioles 1-0

CHICAGO -- Rookie Cade Horton tossed two-hit ball over five innings, and the Chicago Cubs overcame a terrific start by Trevor Rogers to beat the Baltimore Orioles 1-0 on Friday. The Cubs showed a video tribute of Ryne Sandberg and held 23 seconds of silence prior to their first home game since the Hall of Famer died. Former teammates Shawon Dunston, Jody Davis and Rick Sutcliffe then honored their friend by carrying a base onto the field and placing it at second. A few hours earlier, Commissioner Rob Manfred announced the 2027 All-Star Game will be held at Wrigley Field during a news conference at home plate with Chicago Cubs chairman Tom Ricketts, Gov. JB Pritzker and mayor Brandon Johnson. Ian Happ hit a sacrifice fly in the second inning against Rogers, and the Cubs started the weekend series on a winning note after losing two of three at Milwaukee. They began the day trailing the NL Central-leading Brewers by one game. Horton (5-3) delivered his third straight scoreless outing. Caleb Thielbar, newcomer Andrew Kittredge and Brad Keller each worked an inning. Daniel Palencia pitched around a two-out double by Adley Rutschman in the ninth, retiring Tyler O'Neill on a fly to deep left for his 15th save in 16 chances. Rogers (4-2) was a tough-luck loser for Baltimore. The left-hander matched a career high by going eight innings and allowed one run and four hits. He struck out eight and walked none. Carson Kelly singled leading off the second, took third on Pete Crow-Armstrong's double to deep center and scored on Happ's sacrifice fly. Horton has gone 17 2/3 innings without allowing a run.
