After J-20, J-35A is the fifth generation fighter aircraft…, China inducts second stealth jet in the Air Force…, is it threat to Rafale?
China's People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) may have inducted its second fifth-generation stealth fighter aircraft J-35A into service. In the recently released pictures, J-35A has been seen flying with J-20 stealth fighter and J-16D electronic warfare aircraft. Although there is no official confirmation yet, but if this is so, then it will be a huge increase in the strength of China's Air Force. Especially J-35A can give China a strong strategic edge amid the current tensions in the Indo-Pacific region.
If the report of deployment of J-35A fighter aircraft in the Chinese Air Force proves to be true, then China will become the second country in the world after US, whose Air Force will have two different fifth generation stealth fighters. US already has two stealth fighter jets like F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightning II. Like J-20, J-35A is also a stealth fighter aircraft, but both have been designed with different purposes. The J-20 is a heavyweight, air-superiority fighter, while the J-35A is seen as a mid-size multirole fighter with the capability to carry out surgical surface strikes.
How many fifth-generation fighter jets does China have?
The J-35A has many design elements that match the US F-35 fighter jet, such as the Electro-Optical Targeting System (EOTS), forward-hinged canopy and the absence of a pitot tube near the nose. However, it has two engines while the F-35 runs on a single engine. This is why the J-35A can be called a copy of the F-35, but its performance cannot be directly compared. The range and energy of the aircraft depends on its engine, radar, avionics, weapons capability and stealth technology.
The capability of the J-35A fighter jet has always been questionable. But the deployment of the J-35A fighter jet is very important not only for the Chinese Air Force but also for its Navy. The naval variant of this fighter jet, the J-35, will soon be deployed on China's modern aircraft carrier 'Fujian.' It has a folding wing design, making it operable from older aircraft carriers such as the Liaoning and Shandong.
What is India's stance?
The Indian Air Force currently has 4.5th generation jets like Rafale, Su-30MKI, Mirage-2000 and Tejas, which are equipped with state-of-the-art weapons and avionics, but these are not stealth. India has started rapid work on the indigenous 5th generation fighter program 'AMCA' (Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft), but its first prototype is expected to arrive only by 2028. The Indian Air Force is relying on Israeli avionics, American weapon systems and indigenous radar technology to enhance its capabilities.

India's Rafale Jets now missile-proof? This country to provide 'decoy system' that will protect it by..., the country is.., nightmare for Pakistan due to... After Operation Sindoor, Pakistan has often claimed that it can shoot down India's Rafale fighter jets, but India has always strongly denied this claim. Now, a new move by India might make Pakistan even more worried. The Indian Air Force is planning to make Rafale jets safer by adding a special system called a 'decoy system.' This system will help protect the jets from enemy missiles, especially during missions deep inside enemy areas. For this, India has ordered the X-Guard Fiber Optic Towed Decoy System from Israel. This system can trick enemy radars and pull missiles away from the real jet, helping to keep the Rafales out of harm's way. Already tested on Rafale Jets According to reports, this decoy system has already been tested successfully on Rafale jets in India. However, due to supply issues and the ongoing tensions in the Middle East, there has been a delay in the delivery. Now, the Indian government is working hard to get this system as soon as possible. Once installed, it will be a huge boost to the safety and strength of the Air Force's Rafale fleet. When Economic Times asked the Indian Air Force about this, there was no official response. The Israeli company Rafael, which makes the system, also refused to comment.

Decoy system for Rafale: India looks to expedite deliveries of X Guard for IAF fighter jets; here's how it works
During Operation Sindoor's initial phase, the Rafales executed missile strikes on Pakistani air installations. (File photo) India is looking to enhance the capabilities of its Rafale fighter jet fleet. India aims to accelerate the procurement of a decoy mechanism designed to enhance the defensive capabilities of its Rafale fighter aircraft against hostile missiles. During Operation Sindoor 's initial phase, the Rafales executed missile strikes on Pakistani air installations as a counter-response to their actions against Indian military objectives. The SCALP long-range missiles launched from these aircraft achieved precise hits on crucial Pakistani targets, successfully engaging early warning aircraft shelters, unmanned aerial vehicle facilities, command centres and airfields. X Guard : How The Decoy System For Rafale Jets Works The X Guard fibre optic towed decoy system, the order for which has been placed by Indian Air Force to upgrade the Rafale fighter jets' capabilities, enables operations in disputed airspace, according to an ET report. According to sources quoted by the financial daily, whilst the system, produced by Israel's Rafael, has been successfully integrated and tested on the aircraft, delivery schedules have been affected by supply chain disruptions and ongoing conflicts in West Asia. The authorities are working to speed up deliveries, recognising the system's importance in improving the Rafale fighter jet's missile defence capabilities. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 21st Century Skills Start with Confident Communication Planet Spark Learn More Undo The Israeli Air Force frequently uses the X Guard, a sophisticated reusable decoy mechanism that works in conjunction with fighter aircraft's electronic warfare systems. This device, which reproduces a fighter jet's signature characteristics, is housed within a pod attached to a hard point and used during high-stakes operations. When deployed in flight, the device maintains connection with the fighter jet via a fibre-optic cable. Its primary function is to serve as a target for incoming air-to-air and surface-to-air missiles, effectively drawing them away from the actual aircraft by presenting itself as a viable target. Upon mission completion, the system allows for mid-flight retraction and secure storage within its designated pod. The Indian Rafale combat aircraft demonstrated exceptional accuracy during Operation Sindoor whilst targeting terrorist facilities in Bahawalpur and Muridke. These aircraft have specific modifications designed for Indian requirements, including a helmet-mounted display system, an Infra Red Search and Track sensor, and capabilities to function effectively from high-altitude bases. Suspend GO No. 20 on local status: CPM to AP government
VIJAYAWADA: The CPM has urged the State government to suspend GO No. 20, which alters the local status criteria for higher education admissions, and continue the existing local status policy. The demand follows confusion and concern among students and parents caused by the new rules. Under Article 371(D) of the Constitution, a three-region system ensured equal education and employment opportunities in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Post-bifurcation, a Presidential Order extended this for 10 years, but its validity ended last year. Telangana has since treated Andhra students as non-locals, while Andhra Pradesh issued GO No. 20 on May 21, 2025, classifying students who studied one of the last four years outside the State as non-locals. This has sparked widespread unrest. Additionally, proving local status now requires parents to provide a residential certificate showing 10 years of residence in Andhra Pradesh or study certificates proving 10 years of education in the State, it said. The CPM criticised the government for implementing these changes without public awareness or consultation.
