PDRM's elite UTK in high demand
According to Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department deputy director (Operations), DCP M.V. Sri Kumar, UTK has not only retained its combat readiness but continues to evolve in line with current security challenges.
'UTK operatives are high-value assets due to their involvement in covert and high-risk missions.
'The vacancies in the unit are never fully filled because the demand for UTK services remains exceptionally high due to their expertise and training, with requests coming from corporate agencies and prominent individuals both locally and internationally,' he told a press conference after the UTK Beret Award Ceremony and the closing of the Basic Close Protection Security Course Series 1/2025 at Bukit Aman today.
Sri Kumar said that despite the unit currently having 365 operatives, there are still around 40 vacancies, and new recruitment takes place once or twice a year, with only 15 to 18 per cent of candidates successfully completing the rigorous selection process.
In the latest intake, only 36 out of 250 candidates managed to complete the final phase - the Basic Close Protection Security Course Series 1/2025, which ran from May 13 to May 31.
'This proves that only the best of the best are selected. However, completing basic training doesn't mark the end of their journey. They must still undergo advanced modules such as explosives training, sniper operations, airborne training and other mission-specific specialisations,' Sri Kumar said.
He said that UTK training covers a wide range of disciplines, including martial arts, combat medicine, fieldcraft, firearms proficiency, methods of entry, close-quarter battle, fighting in built-up areas, and final operational simulations, all of which are designed to push recruits to their physical and mental limits.
Sri Kumar, who personally served in UTK from 1992 to 2019, expressed pride in the unit's progress over the years.
He also announced that UTK is expected to relocate to its new headquarters in Semenyih next year, with construction currently 70 per cent completed.
'Once it's ready, the unit will have its own dedicated facility for training and operations, instead of relying on police facilities nationwide,' he said.

KUALA LUMPUR, July 31 (Bernama) -- The allocation of RM51 billion to the security sector under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) proves the government's commitment to making security the main pillar of the country's stability and progress, said Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. He said the large fund would drive various important initiatives including the modernisation of security operations and improving the welfare of frontline personnel. "With the allocation of RM51 billion to the security sector, this is a clear signal that the government recognises security as a pillar of the country's stability and progress," he said in a statement today. He also expressed appreciation for the government's serious emphasis on the welfare of security personnel, including the provision of quarters for them, involving more than 82,000 units in various phases of construction and renovation. "The provision of 1,368 new Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) quarters and 3,088 Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) quarters has been completed, plus another 8,501 units are being built and 69,141 existing quarters are being renovated, which is a meaningful step in safeguarding the well-being of personnel and their families," he said. He said the ongoing efforts in the 13MP to improve infrastructure, facilities and support for security personnel are very welcome and deserve to be praised because they pave the way for the excellent performance of the personnel. "We cannot expect our security forces to serve efficiently and dedicatedly if their basic needs such as comfortable housing, a conducive environment and social need are neglected," he said. Saifuddin Nasution said the ministry also welcomed the government's efforts to modernise the country's immigration system through the National Integrated Immigration System and the use of advanced technology such as artificial intelligence (AI) which is deemed timely in facing current security challenges. "This approach enables the national security forces to function efficiently, responsively and strategically in addressing current challenges as well as increasing the effectiveness of security control at land and maritime borders, especially in facing geopolitical tensions and regional security issues such as in the South China Sea," he said.

RM4.3mil in Mayu Global's frozen bank accounts released, RM6.4mil still held
KUALA LUMPUR: Mayu Global Group Bhd has disclosed that RM4.3 million previously frozen in the bank accounts of its 80 per cent-owned subsidiary, Sunrise Manner Sdn Bhd, has been released by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM). This follows letters received from Bukit Aman notifying the cancellation of the freeze order, issued under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001. In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, Mayu Global said the affected accounts were held at RHB Bank Bhd, Hong Leong Bank Bhd, Malayan Banking Bhd, Maybank Islamic Bhd and CIMB Bank Bhd. "Following the release of RM4.3 million from the above-mentioned bank accounts, the remaining amount still frozen by PDRM in the group's bank accounts stands at RM6.4 million," it said. This marks a partial easing of restrictions first disclosed in April, when the company revealed that bank accounts linked to Mayu Global and its subsidiaries had been frozen as part of an ongoing investigation involving one of its directors. The investigation also led to the seizure of company vehicles and changes in boardroom composition. The company said it would continue to monitor the matter closely. "The board of directors will continue to monitor the situation closely and will make further announcements as and when there are material developments," it said. In April, PDRM froze RM10.67 million across the bank accounts of Mayu Global and several subsidiaries under anti-money laundering laws. Mayu Global's executive director Tan Kim Hee was detained on April 2 to assist with the investigation and released on April 7 without any charges filed. The probe was reportedly linked to the long-running MBI pyramid scheme, with Tan identified as the brother-in-law of MBI founder Tedy Teow and a substantial shareholder of Mayu Global. The affected accounts included Sunrise Manner, Sungguh Gemilang Development Sdn Bhd, Progerex Sdn Bhd, SMPC Industries Sdn Bhd and others.
