MACC detains two over false claims in RM8.1 million fraud case
According to sources, a former company owner and a former Chief Financial Officer, both in their 40s to 50s, were arrested around 6:30 pm yesterday when they arrived to give their statements at the MACC Headquarters here.
'Both suspects are believed to be involved in corruption and money laundering for the provision of machinery and facility rental services between 2019 and 2021.
'Additionally, the investigation also focuses on claims for waste disposal services that occurred from January to October 2022, as well as the receipt of bribe money,' the source said.
The source added that MACC's investigation is also identifying other criminal offences under the Penal Code and money laundering activities.
Through 'Op Flora,' conducted by MACC's Special Operations Division (BOK) at 11 premises around the Klang Valley and Negeri Sembilan yesterday, MACC has frozen 76 bank accounts, comprising individual and company accounts, totaling approximately RM1.68 million.
The source informed that both individuals are currently remanded for one day after Magistrate Irza Zulaikha Rohanuddin allowed the MACC's application at the Putrajaya Magistrate's Court.
Meanwhile, MACC Special Operations Division Senior Director, Datuk Mohamad Zamri Zainul Abidin, when contacted, confirmed the arrests and stated that the case was being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.

The tragic case came to light when the 24-year-old mother, who is divorced, rushed her unconscious daughter to the Tampin Hospital at around 11pm, claiming that the child had stopped responding. According to a source, doctors examining the child discovered multiple bruises on her abdomen and back, as well as injuries to the anal area. A police report was subsequently lodged due to the suspicious nature of the injuries. Initial investigations revealed that the mother, from Kampung Anak Air Durian Daun in Tampin, had brought her daughter to her boyfriend's workplace, a fishing gear shop, at around 6.30pm that evening. 'She reportedly left the child with her boyfriend while she went out to buy food. 'When she returned to the shop around 10pm, the baby appeared to be sleeping while the boyfriend was managing the shop,' the source said. However, at around 10.30pm, the mother attempted to wake the child so they could head home, only to discover that the baby was unresponsive. The couple immediately brought her to the hospital. The baby was treated upon arrival at around 11pm but was pronounced dead about 30 minutes later. Medical personnel confirmed injuries consistent with abuse and the body was transferred to the Forensic Unit at Hospital Tampin for a post-mortem examination. Later that night, police arrested the mother and her 20-year-old boyfriend. They were brought to the Alor Gajah Magistrate's Court on Monday and have been remanded for seven days to assist investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. The remand order was issued by Magistrate Dr Teoh Shu Yee. The woman is unemployed, while her boyfriend works at the fishing supply store where the incident occurred. Both suspects arrived at the courthouse escorted by police at about 9.10am. Police have yet to disclose further details pending the outcome of the post-mortem and investigation.

Food stall assistant claims trial to raping his sister
KOTA BARU: A food stall assistant was charged at the Sessions Court here today with three counts of raping his sister since she was 11, in Bachok between 2023 and this year. The accused, 20, pleaded not guilty to all three charges before judge Zulkifli Abdullah. The offences allegedly occurred at a house in Kampung Cherang Hangus, Bachok in April 2023, December 2024, and April this year, between evening and midnight. The accused was charged under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of not less than eight years and not more than 30 years, and no fewer than 10 strokes of the cane, upon conviction. The section applies to offenders who rape victims whom they are prohibited from marrying under the law, religion, custom, or usage. Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Faiz Fitri Mohamad prosecuted, while the accused was represented by lawyer Mohd Firdaus Zainal Abidin. Earlier, the prosecution did not offer bail, citing that the accused lived near the victim and had allegedly threatened her. However, the defence requested a lighter sentence, noting that the accused was a young offender. After hearing submissions from both sides, the court allowed bail at RM10,000 with two sureties. The court then set Aug 6 for re-mentioning the case for document submission.

Couple arrested for suspected murder of baby in Alor Gajah
ALOR GAJAH: A 15-month-old baby girl is believed to have been murdered by her mother and her partner at a shop in Bandar Satelit, Pulau Sebang, here. The child was unconscious when brought to Tampin Hospital by her 24-year-old biological mother at about 11pm on Sunday (July 6). Doctors discovered injuries to the baby's anus, as well as bruising on her abdomen and back, before lodging a police report. The baby was pronounced dead about 30 minutes later. Preliminary investigations revealed that the mother had taken her only child from their home in Kampung Anak Air Durian Daun, Tampin, Negri Sembilan to her 20-year-old boyfriend's workplace in Bandar Satelit at around 6.30pm on Sunday (July 6). The woman reportedly left her daughter with her boyfriend, who works as a musician, while she went out to buy food. Upon returning to the shop, the couple spent time together before the mother said she put her baby to sleep at about 10pm. The suspect, who is divorced, claimed that when she attempted to wake her child at 10.30pm to return home, the baby was unresponsive. The couple then rushed the child to Tampin Hospital for treatment. The baby's body has been sent to the Forensic Unit of Tampin Hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. The male suspect has previous criminal records relating to gambling activities. Alor Gajah OCPD Supt Ashari Abu Samah said the couple has been remanded until July 13 to assist investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
