The accused, 20, pleaded not guilty to all three charges before judge Zulkifli Abdullah.
The offences allegedly occurred at a house in Kampung Cherang Hangus, Bachok in April 2023, December 2024, and April this year, between evening and midnight.
The accused was charged under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of not less than eight years and not more than 30 years, and no fewer than 10 strokes of the cane, upon conviction.
The section applies to offenders who rape victims whom they are prohibited from marrying under the law, religion, custom, or usage.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Faiz Fitri Mohamad prosecuted, while the accused was represented by lawyer Mohd Firdaus Zainal Abidin.
Earlier, the prosecution did not offer bail, citing that the accused lived near the victim and had allegedly threatened her. However, the defence requested a lighter sentence, noting that the accused was a young offender.
After hearing submissions from both sides, the court allowed bail at RM10,000 with two sureties. The court then set Aug 6 for re-mentioning the case for document submission.
