Amazon
is in advanced talks to roll out the popular AI coding assistant Cursor across its workforce, responding to growing internal pressure from employees seeking access to the development tool, according to internal company communications reviewed by Business Insider.
An Amazon HR manager overseeing artificial intelligence adoption told staff via Slack that the company is working "asap" to formally adopt Cursor, though deployment hinges on resolving "a few high priority security issues" to meet Amazon's stringent security requirements.
The potential deal represents a significant shift for Amazon, which typically discourages employees from using external AI tools when the company offers competing products. Amazon already provides its own AI coding assistant called Q and maintains an internal AI chatbot named "Cedric."

The discussions emerged after several Amazon employees actively lobbied for Cursor access through internal channels. A dedicated Slack channel for Cursor enthusiasts has attracted approximately 1,500 Amazon participants, demonstrating substantial employee interest in the tool.
Internal polling within the channel showed more than 60 Amazon employees preferred Cursor over competing tools like Windsurf, with only about 10 choosing the latter option. Employees praised Cursor's speed and user experience, with one noting that "Cursor changes are almost instantaneous, whereas Q dev still takes minutes to make a change."
Cursor's $9B valuation signals competitive threat to Amazon's Q
The timing coincides with Cursor's meteoric rise in the AI development space.
Anysphere
, Cursor's maker, recently secured $900 million in funding at a $9 billion valuation, representing a dramatic increase from its $2.4 billion December valuation, according to reports from the Financial Times and TechCrunch.
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy acknowledged Cursor's market impact during last month's earnings call, citing the company as a key driver behind the "explosion of coding agents." The potential adoption comes as Amazon develops its own advanced AI coding tool, codenamed "Kiro," designed to compete directly with Cursor's capabilities.

RPCAU develops 3 maize varities suited for Bihar's conditions

1 2 3 Patna: In a major stride for agricultural innovation, scientists at Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University (RPCAU) have unveiled three new maize varieties poised to transform maize cultivation across eastern India. The newly introduced varieties include, Rajendra Baby Corn-1 – a region-specific baby corn hybrid tailored for Bihar's agro-climatic conditions; Rajendra Pop Corn-1 – a high-yielding popcorn hybrid, and Shaktiman-5 – a biofortified quality protein maize. Developed by the maize breeding team at Tirhut College of Agriculture (TCA), Dholi, Rajendra Baby Corn-1 is expected to offer a profitable and sustainable crop alternative for small and marginal farmers. "Baby corn enjoys strong market demand, particularly in urban areas and food processing industries. However, a hybrid suited to Bihar's unique conditions was missing. Our aim was to bridge that gap," said maize scientist Ajay Kumar. What makes this hybrid exceptional is its short growing duration and ready to harvest in just two months and its ability to produce 12 to 15 quintals per hectare of fresh baby corn, along with 200–300 quintals per hectare of green fodder, making it a dual-purpose crop. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Experts believe that this innovation can significantly contribute to the state's goal of crop diversification, doubling farmers' income, and establishing agro-processing linkages. For farmers seeking quick returns, nutrition, and market potential, Rajendra Baby Corn-1 is not just a variety — it's an opportunity. The Rajendra Pop Corn-1 variety is specially tailored for Bihar's agro-climatic conditions. It offers farmers an attractive alternative to traditional grain maize, with the added advantage of tapping into the growing demand for packaged popcorn in urban markets. This hybrid variety matures in just 80 to 90 days, making it suitable for Rabi and late Kharif seasons. It yields up to 30-40 quintals per hectare, outperforming several existing varieties. Most impressively, it boasts a popping expansion ratio of 34–36 cc/g and a popping percentage of over 95%, producing soft, butterfly-type flakes ideal for commercial sale. The biofortified 'Shaktiman-5' variety offers a unique solution to a dual challenge faced in eastern India: protein malnutrition and low farm returns. It has been bred to contain elevated levels of lysine and tryptophan, essential amino acids often lacking in conventional maize. These nutrients are vital for human growth, immune function, and child development, particularly in regions where cereals dominate the diet. Beyond its agronomic merits, Shaktiman-5 is aligned with key national priorities such as PoshanAbhiyan, the National Biofortification Mission, and the Public Distribution System (PDS). It as an ideal food for mid-day meal schemes, anganwadi nutrition programmes, and livestock feed improvement, said RPCAU vice-chancellor P S Pandey. Trump tariffs deal $12-billion blow to Indian engineering exports; EEPC eyes market diversification

India's engineering goods exporters are preparing for a substantial impact following US President Donald Trump 's announcement of a 25% tariff and additional penalties on all Indian imports starting August 1. The US is India's largest market for engineering goods, with shipments valued at $19.15 billion in FY25, an increase of 8.7% from $17.62 billion in FY24. Of this, steel, aluminium, and related products account for over 60%—around $12 billion—which now face major reciprocal tariff action. That's a huge blow. Steel, aluminium, and their derivatives—exports of these key items will become costlier, leading to a likely dip in shipments,' said Pankaj Chadha, Chairman, Engineering Export Promotion Council of India ( EEPC ). by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like This Could Be the Best Time to Trade Gold in 5 Years IC Markets Learn More Undo Trump's announcement comes as India and the US were exploring a bilateral trade agreement (BTA) and touting a 'special strategic partnership.' Chadha noted, 'Donald Trump's announcement came as a shock. On one hand, we were about to do a BTA with that country, and all along he was saying our PM is a close friend and US-India relations have a special strategic character, and now this.' He also stressed the unpredictable nature of Trump's trade moves: 'The transactional nature of the US president is such that you have to give something to get something. We have our red lines on dairy and agricultural products, and if both sides respect each other's red lines, then something meaningful and win-win can come out. But we need to see the fine print of the official documents first, and I'm sure a negotiation process will start rolling once that is clear.' Live Events Steel and aluminium in focus Steel and aluminium account for over 60% of India's engineering exports to the US. With the new tariff structure, products such as hot-rolled steel coils, stainless steel products, aluminium sheets, and alloys will face immediate cost escalations, likely eroding their competitiveness in the US market. Industry analysts said the tariff move could also prompt buyers in the US to shift sourcing to suppliers such as Vietnam, Mexico, or domestic US producers. 'Given that Indian steel and aluminium exports operate on tight margins, absorbing a 25% tariff is unviable. The most likely scenario is a drop in shipments and renegotiations of contracts,' said a Mumbai-based metal industry consultant. Chadha said EEPC is already working on mitigation strategies. 'We need to expand our global footprint further into South America—we're very close to signing FTAs with Chile and Peru. We should also double down on Mexico and work toward an agreement there. These three are emerging growth hotspots for engineering goods. We are in active dialogue with the EU as well. Derisking our global exposure holds the key in this tariff-ridden environment, so while our dependence on the US market cannot be completely eliminated, it can certainly be reduced.' He added that agriculture and dairy remain India's clear red lines in trade negotiations: 'We can't give away agriculture and dairy—that's definitely our red line.' For now, the EEPC chief has advised exporters to exercise caution until further clarity emerges. 'My message to engineering players and EEPC members will be: once we know the extent of penalties, we will suggest the roadmap ahead,' he said.

Live Events Synergy Metals Investments Holding is an arm of Synergy Metals and Mining Fund, a private equity fund set up by a former executive of steelmaker ArcelorMittal, Sudhir Maheshwari, in 2015. As per draft papers, the company will utilise proceeds worth Rs 800 crore to part-finance a new integrated cement unit at Nagaur, Rajasthan, and Rs 520 crore on prepayment or repayment of outstanding borrowings availed by it. The rest would be used for general corporate purposes. The Mumbai-based company had earlier planned to raise Rs 4,000 crore. At the time of filing papers, JSW Cement said it intended to raise Rs 2,000 crore from a fresh issue of equity shares and an offer for sale (OFS) of Rs 2,000 crore by investor shareholders. However, the size of the fresh capital-raising has been cut by Rs 400 crore from the fresh issue, as per the latest RHP. The company presently operates manufacturing operations at units based at Vijayanagar in Karnataka, Nandyal in Andhra Pradesh, Salboni in West Bengal, Jajpur in Odisha and Dolvi in Maharashtra. JSW Cement through its subsidiary Shiva Cement operates a clinker unit in Odisha. JM Financial Ltd , Axis Capital Ltd , Citigroup Global Markets India Pvt Ltd, DAM Capital Advisors Ltd , Goldman Sachs (India) Securities Pvt Ltd, Jefferies India Pvt Ltd, Kotak Mahindra Capital Company Ltd and SBI Capital Markets Ltd are responsible for managing the company's IPO process. The company's shares will be listed on the BSE and NSE. PTI
