Christopher Gorham Joins Fire Country Spinoff as Sheriff Mickey Fox's Ex-Husband

Yahoo22-04-2025
CBS has made two key additions to the cast of its Fire Country spinoff Sheriff Country, including Christopher Gorham (Covert Affairs) in a series-regular role.
As first reported by our sister site Deadline, Gorham will appear as Travis, a lawyer and the ex-husband of Morena Baccarin's Sheriff Mickey Fox. Travis and Mickey share a daughter named Skye, whom they've helped through struggles with addiction, and the pair might still have feelings for each other… but it's complicated.

Additionally, Michele Weaver (Love Is_, Council of Dads) has been cast in the series-regular role of Cassidy, a deputy in the Edgewater County Sheriff's Department. Cassidy was inspired by Mickey to become a sheriff, which has led her to put Mickey on a pedestal as she tries to carve out her own identity in law enforcement.
Previously ordered to series at CBS for its 2025-26 TV season, Sheriff Country stars Baccarin as straight-shooting sheriff Mickey Fox — the stepsister of Fire Country's Sharon Leone — who investigates criminal activity as she patrols the streets of small-town Edgewater while contending with her ex-con father (Deadwood's W. Earl Brown) and a mysterious incident involving her wayward daughter. (Sheriff Country is not to be confused with Fire Country: Surfside, a potential 2026-27 spinoff to be led by Jared Padalecki if his possible CBS medical drama doesn't pan out.)
Fire Country has already been renewed for Season 4. In other CBS spinoff news, though, TVLine confirmed today that the Eye Network is not moving forward with potential offshoots for either The Neighborhood or The Equalizer.

Apple TV Plus teases 'Breaking Bad' creator Vince Gilligan's next show — here's when the first look drops

Apple TV Plus is finally set to reveal some new details about an upcoming new creation from "Breaking Bad" creator, Vince Gilligan. On July 22, the streaming service shared the above poster on social media, alongside a cryptic, three-word statement: "Happiness is Contagious." Since then, Apple TV Plus has been running a countdown on its YouTube channel, presumably to some sort of trailer for the new series. The countdown (embedded below) has a little over 31 hours left on the clock, at the time of writing, pointing to a reveal tomorrow (Friday, July 25, 2025). Honestly... not much. Apple TV Plus snapped the new project up back in 2022, and we at least know this next project comes from Vince and is due to star Rhea Seehorn ("Better Call Saul's" Kim Wexler). Per a report from Deadline, we know the show has been described as "a blended, grounded genre drama," and that it received a two-season straight-to-series order from Apple — a big vote of confidence that this will be worth the wait. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Their report also says the show is expected to play out within our world, "while putting a tweak on it, bending reality and focusing on people and exploring the human condition in an unexpected, surprising way." Deadline further says that the show is "expected to carry the signature Gilligan tone that infuses drama with humor." In a subsequent interview, Gilligan revealed a few more tidbits about the sci-fi project, which is again set in Albuquerque (though a very different version of Albuquerque). "There's no crime, and no methamphetamine," he told Variety. "The world changes very abruptly in the first episode, and then it is quite different. And the consequences that that reaps hopefully provide drama for many, many episodes after that," Gilligan added. Bottom line: this is bound to be a major new release for Apple TV Plus, and if you've enjoyed Vince Gilligan's previous work, you're probably going to be signing up for Apple TV Plus soon. South Park skewers Trump over Epstein files, depicts him in bed with Satan

The hit Paramount show aired the incendiary new episode as the first of its new season. President Donald Trump calls on a reporter during a meeting with Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in the Oval Office at the White House on July 22, 2025, in Washington. |By Paul Dallison 07/24/2025 08:04 AM EDT After a two-year break, 'South Park' returned to TV on Wednesday night with an explosive episode aimed squarely at Donald Trump that depicted the president in bed with Satan and referenced Jeffrey Epstein. The start of the new season of 'South Park' was delayed by several weeks while the Paramount network secured a deal worth $1.5 billion with the show's creators for the streaming rights. Paramount is the owner of CBS, which has been firmly in Trump's crosshairs. The episode features Trump arguing with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, who complains about tariffs on Canada and says: 'What are you, some kind of dictator from the Middle East?' After confusing Iran and Iraq, the 'South Park' version of Trump tells Carney to 'relax.'

LIBERAL ECHO CHAMBER

"The Late Show" wasn't just a platform for Democrats under Stephen Colbert's tenure, it was also one for left-wing journalists and hosts. Fox News Digital has counted at least 200 episodes of "The Late Show" that featured members of the liberal media. The far-left politics of "The Late Show" have been facing scrutiny after CBS announced last week that it was pulling the plug on Colbert's program, which will officially wrap up in May 2026. According to IMDB search results, CNN anchor and "60 Minutes" correspondent Anderson Cooper holds the record with 20 formal guest appearances on "The Late Show." Cooper showed his support for Colbert on Monday in a cameo appearance as part of an audience gag mocking CBS parent company Paramount and President Donald Trump. Other journalists and hosts who were top "Late Show" guests included CNN anchor Jake Tapper, with 12 appearances, the "Pod Save America" Obama bros with 11, MSNBC's Chris Hayes with 10 and MSNBC's Rachel Maddow and "The View" co-host Whoopi Goldberg with eight apiece, per IMDB. Colbert frequently rolled out the red carpet for his CBS colleagues in the news division for cross-promotion. John Dickerson has tallied 19 appearances, Gayle King notched 14, Norah O'Donnell has six, and Margaret Brennan has three. Several times, the CBS hosts made joint appearances, like King with her "CBS Morning" colleagues. Similarly, John Heilemann and Alex Wagner, prominent MSNBC analysts, both made at least ten appearances, thanks in part to their stints hosting the political docuseries "The Circus" that aired on Showtime, a sister network under the Paramount umbrella. The late-night CBS host welcomed liberal journalists from rival broadcast networks like ABC's George Stephanopoulos and Jonathan Karl as well as NBC's Savannah Guthrie, Craig Melvin and Jacob Soboroff. Hosts on CNN and MSNBC, which both leaned into anti-Trump politics throughout Colbert's run, were regulars at the Ed Sullivan Theater. "Morning Joe" co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski have made four joint appearances, as did Joy Reid before her firing from MSNBC earlier this year. Nicolle Wallace, Jen Psaki and Lawrence O'Donnell of MSNBC and Christiane Amanpour of CNN International have each made three appearances. Other CNN and MSNBC stars, past and present, who've joined Colbert over the years include Brian Stelter, Jim Acosta, Don Lemon, Chris Cuomo, Katy Tur, Ari Melber, Kaitlan Collins, Abby Philip, Laura Coates, Van Jones, Donny Deutsch, Audie Cornish, Jim Sciutto and Chris Matthews. Other notable media figures that have also made "Late Show" appearances over the years include Katie Couric, Bob Costa, Ana Navarro, Maggie Haberman, Nikole Hannah-Jones, Ta-Nehisi Coates, Wesley Lowery, Scott Pelley, Lesley Stahl, Ezra Klein, Susan Glasser, April Ryan, Jorge Ramos, John Avlon, Margaret Hoover, Ronan Farrow, Michael Wolff, Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein. Liberals have been outraged over Colbert's shocking cancellation. Many of them, including Jon Stewart, believe the move was meant to kowtow to Trump and not because of the show's finances as CBS claimed. But Colbert's show was reportedly losing CBS $40 million a year and that it had been running on a whopping $100 million budget per season. While the liberal late-night hosts are struggling, Fox News Channel's "Gutfeld!" averaged 3.1 million viewers through July 20, compared to 1.9 million for CBS' outgoing "Late Show." During that same time period, ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" averaged 1.5 million, NBC's "The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon" averaged 1.1 million, and NBC's "Late Night with Seth Meyers" managed 751,000. When it comes to the advertiser-coveted demographic of adults aged 25-54, "Gutfeld!" averaged 398,000 of the viewers most coveted by advertisers, compared to 288,000 for Colbert.
