Bee Network launches 'important' new technology trial at five Greater Manchester stations

Yahoo12-03-2025
Bee Network has announced that it is trialling new technology to help people with extra support needs to navigate the network. The technology is designed to provide extra help to people with visual impairments, hearing impairments, and who require step free access.
It is based on an app called GoodMaps, which is free to access, and uses information from camera-based positioning to give people "turn by turn directions" at key destinations. The app is aimed at making easier for people to navigate busy transport hubs, including accessing platforms, finding emergency help points, and accessible toilets.
The GoodMaps app is now available to download on Android and Apple devices and is being activated in a selection of stops on the Bee Network for a three month trial period running from march to May 2025.

Through the trial the app will be active in five major hubs on the network: Bolton Interchange, Manchester Victoria, Manchester Piccadilly, Manchester Airport, and Shudehill Interchange.
The trial comes as Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) works in partnership with Disability Design Reference Group and groups representing elderly people and those with hearing, visual, and mobility impairments.
Cllr Tracey Rawlins, the Bee Network Committee's Disability Advocate and Executive Member for Clean Air, Environment and Transport at Manchester City Council, said: "Speaking as someone who lives with a visual impairment, I know first-hand the difficulties that can arise when trying to navigate an unfamiliar area, especially those as busy as a city-centre transport interchange.
"This is why it's so important that as a city-region we are constantly exploring for new ways to make our public transport network as accessible as possible, whether that is for people with visual or hearing impairments, physical disabilities, or anything else that may make it harder to travel around.
"I'm pleased to be able to announce that the Bee Network is set to undertake a three-month trial of GoodMaps to explore its benefits, and I would very much encourage people to download it for free and see how it could improve their travelling experience throughout Greater Manchester."
Neil Barnfather MBE andCCO of GoodMaps, added: 'GoodMaps provides an ability to access public spaces in a manner that has previously not been obtainable.
'As a blind person myself, I know all too well the challenges of travelling independently and especially to places to where I have not been previously.
'What makes the work with TfGM so distinctive is the regional connectivity; with passengers able to transition between rail, bus and tram. Greater Manchester truly leads the way in multimodal mobility, not least for persons with a disability.'
TfGM has also said that it is welcoming feedback on the trial in effort to ensure the network is as accessible as possible.
People can share their thoughts via the online feedback survey, or by emailing the Partnerships Engagement & Inclusion team at engagement@tfgm.com by the end of May. You can also call the TfGM Contact Centre on 0161 244 1000.

Jefferies Upgrades Apple Stock (AAPL) to Hold, But Stays Cautious as ‘AI Is Not Yet a Game Changer'

Jefferies upgraded Apple (AAPL) stock from Sell to Hold and increased the price target from $170.62 to $188.32, as top analyst Edison Lee is positive about the strength in the company's sales in the June quarter. That said, Lee remains cautious about AAPL stock, as he expects the iPhone maker to issue a subdued outlook for the September quarter. He is also worried about a lack of new features in the upcoming iPhone 17, stating that ' AI is not yet a game changer.' Top Analyst Upgrades AAPL Stock to Hold on Strength in June Quarter Lee cited Counterpoint data, which indicates that global iPhone sales volumes in April and May increased by 15% year-over-year, marking the strongest growth since the third quarter of 2021. The 5-star analyst believes that tariff-driven pull-in demand and share recovery in China could drive 8% and 10% growth in the June quarter (Q3 FY25) revenue and EPS, respectively, which would be nearly 5% and 9% greater than consensus estimates. Also, the June quarter top-line estimate is better than Apple's low-single-digit revenue growth guidance. The analyst estimates that iPhone sales in China grew by 19% year-over-year during the 618 promotions, driving a nearly 10% growth in the first 2.5 months of the June quarter, thanks to targeted discounts and government subsidies. China's 618 festival is one of the biggest shopping events, during which major e-commerce retailers offer discounts. Lee believes that this is a strong indication that Apple is determined to protect its market share in China, and that Chinese consumers are still willing to buy an iPhone at lower prices. Given these positives, Lee sees a possible surprise for AAPL's Q3 FY25 results. Consequently, he raised his June quarter iPhone sales volume estimate by 9% to 49.4 million. The revised estimate indicates a 9% year-over-year growth. Jefferies Remains Cautious on Apple Stock However, Lee expects only flat iPhone unit growth in the second half of calendar year 2025 due to pulled-in demand in April and May and a lack of new features for the iPhone 17. In particular, he expects demand in the September quarter to 'suffer' due to the demand pulled forward in the June quarter. The analyst reduced his iPhone units estimate for the September quarter by 11% to 46.3 million, reflecting a 6% year-over-year decline. Furthermore, Lee contends that the market's 'benign view on tariff is likely overly optimistic.' Lee sees the possibility of a roughly 7% hit to Fiscal 2025 and 2026 EPS (earnings per share), even if the U.S. imposes just a 10% tariff on India, a 20% tariff on Vietnam and a 30% tariff on China, which are rates less severe than the ones announced earlier in 2025. Lee also warned about the downside in Apple's Services revenue. Overall, Lee remains sidelined on Apple stock, as some risks persist, but believes that 'good' Q3 FY25 results could help stabilize the stock over the near term. Is Apple Stock a Buy, Sell, or Hold? Prior to Jefferies' upgrade, Wall Street assigned a Moderate Buy consensus rating to Apple stock based on 16 Buys, nine Holds, and four Sell recommendations. The average AAPL stock price target of $226.54 indicates a 9% upside potential. Apple stock is down 17% year-to-date.

Cops in this country think everyone using a Google Pixel must be a drug dealer

C. Scott Brown / Android Authority TL;DR Pixel phones are apparently the phone of choice for criminals, drug dealers, and gang members in Spain's Catalonia. Police say every time they spot someone with a Pixel, they think they must be a drug dealer. The popularity of Pixels among the wrong crowd has little to do with Google phones and everything to do with Android's open nature. Police in Spain, specifically in the autonomous region of Catalonia, are very alert when they spot someone using a Google Pixel phone. As weird as it sounds, Pixels are highly preferred by those involved in organized crime, according to the Catalan police. 'Every time we see a Google Pixel, we suspect it might belong to a drug dealer,' said a police official leading the anti-drug operation in Catalonia, as per Xataka Android (machine translated). But why are Pixels popular among criminals in that region? It really has little to do with how Google makes its phones and everything to do with the open nature of Android, which lets users use alternative operating systems. Specifically, organized crime members in Catalonia use GrapheneOS, a privacy and security-focused operating system that keeps your data out of Google's reach. Criminals and gang members in Spain prefer using GrapheneOS on Pixel phones, and there's a good reason for it. GrapheneOS implements full disk and metadata encryption, a security feature exploited by miscreants. But it works best on Pixels. Even though GrapheneOS can be installed on any unlocked Android phone, the company's FAQ section strongly recommends using a Pixel phone 'due to better security and a long minimum support guarantee from launch for full security updates and other improvements.' The page specifically mentions the Pixel 8 and Pixel 9 series, 'for the incredibly powerful hardware memory tagging security feature as part of moving to new ARM V9 CPU cores.' Additionally, like most Android phones, Pixel devices are on Google's Find My Device network, which allows users to remotely lock or wipe their phones, a feature that's ironically valued by criminals. In fact, one of the Pixel's standout features — its cameras — is something these criminals don't even use and often have physically removed, along with the GPS and microphone. In Catalonia, a Pixel sighting now raises more than just tech curiosity, it raises red flags. The police's solution to counter these clever tricks is to infect Pixels with malware to gain full access to apps, media, documents, and more. Even GrapheneOS is not immune to malware attacks. So while Google surely didn't intend for Pixels to become the phone of choice for criminals, their security hardware, mod-friendly nature, and support for GrapheneOS have made them unexpectedly attractive to the wrong crowd. In Catalonia, a Pixel sighting now raises more than just tech curiosity, it raises red flags. Got a tip? Talk to us! Email our staff at Email our staff at news@ . Prime Day 2025 is coming — these 5 steps guarantee better deals

Prime Day 2025 is approaching fast, running from July 8-11, and with hundreds of thousands of deals across every product category, preparation is key to scoring the best discounts. While many shoppers wait until the event begins to start browsing, smart deal hunters know that the real work happens in the weeks leading up to Prime Day. The most successful Prime Day shoppers prep for the big day (well, week). From setting up the right alerts to having payment methods ready for lightning-fast checkouts, strategically preparing can mean the difference between snagging your dream deal and watching it sell out. Here's how to position yourself for Prime Day success. Prime Day deals are exclusively for Amazon Prime members, so this should be your first step if you're not already subscribed. Once you have membership, start putting together a wishlist of items, like household essentials, upcoming gifts, and tech upgrades you may have been postponing. Add these items to your Amazon wishlist now rather than during the event when you're competing with millions of other shoppers. Your wishlist helps you track price changes, prevents impulse purchases, and allows you to act quickly when genuine discounts appear. The Amazon mobile app becomes essential during Prime Day, offering features that the desktop website can't match. Download the free app on iOS or Android and set your notification settings to alert you about deals on wishlisted items, recently viewed products, and price drops on categories you're interested in. Enable Amazon's Watch This Deal feature to track specific items and receive targeted alerts when they're discounted. Sign up for Amazon's deal email notifications for broader updates, and familiarize yourself with the app's interface before Prime Day begins. When lightning deals appear during Prime Day, every second counts. Ensure your Amazon account has current payment information, updated delivery addresses, and any gift cards you plan to use already added to your account. Consider enabling Amazon's one-click purchasing for the fastest possible checkout experience during high-demand deals. If you want, you could always test your checkout process with a small purchase before Prime Day to identify any potential issues that could slow you down when deals are time-sensitive. Amazon offers several built-in tools designed to help shoppers navigate Prime Day deals more effectively. Rufus, Amazon's AI shopping assistant, can answer questions about Prime Day deals, help you compare products, and provide recommendations based on your shopping history. Explore Amazon's deal categories and bookmark pages for product types you're interested in. The "Today's Deals" section will be your hub during Prime Day, but familiarizing yourself with how deals are organized and filtered can save valuable time when you're competing for limited-quantity offers. Develop a clear strategy for how you'll approach Prime Day shopping. Decide whether you'll focus on specific categories, set a total budget limit, or target particular brands or products. Consider the timing of your shopping — deals refresh throughout the event, so planning when you'll actively monitor for new offers can help you catch the best discounts. Create a priority list of your most-wanted items so you know which deals deserve immediate attention. Having a clear strategy prevents you from getting overwhelmed by the sheer volume of deals and helps you focus on opportunities that align with your actual needs and budget. And that's it! You've now learned how to sign up for the invite-only Prime Day deals. If you're interested in Amazon's invite-only deals, follow this useful guide to sign up.
