France's Soft Power Shines Through Alumni
The French Embassy in Bahrain turned its spotlight on the human stories behind international diplomacy on Sunday, hosting a celebration of Bahraini professionals who studied in France and went on to shape careers in law, business, and academia.
Held at the Residence of France and led by His Excellency Éric Giraud-Telme, the Ambassador of France to the Kingdom of Bahrain, the event marked Alumni Day 2025, part of the global Campus France initiative that unites more than 530,000 alumni from 136 countries.
The celebration brought together around 60 guests, including former scholarship recipients, French-language enthusiasts, academic partners, and members of the cultural community.
They gathered to reflect on how their experiences in France had shaped both their worldviews and professional journeys.
From scholarships to success
Among the alumni honoured was Jenan Ghareeb, who teaches at Ahlia University and previously studied French at CAVILAM in Vichy, France.
She received a language scholarship from the French Embassy in 2022 and shared how the experience deepened her connection to French culture and education.
Also recognised was Dr. Walid El-Masri, who completed his doctorate in law from the University of Strasbourg in 1991 and is now a professor at the University of Bahrain.
His story served as a reminder of the long-standing educational bridge between France and Bahrain.
Hasan Majed, CEO of Installux Gulf and an engineering graduate of Université de Technologie de Compiègne, also addressed the gathering, reflecting on how studying in France broadened his business and technical horizons.
Alumni Day was launched globally in 2023 by Campus France, the national agency that promotes French higher education abroad. The initiative aims to strengthen bonds among international alumni and highlight the cultural and academic impact of studying in France.

His Royal Highness noted that joint initiatives and multisectoral cooperation between Bahrain and Saudi Arabia continue to expand, reflecting the two kingdoms' alignment on regional priorities. Strategic alliance Later that day, HRH the Deputy King met with the US Ambassador, HE Steven C. Bondy. During the meeting, His Royal Highness praised the historical partnership between Bahrain and the United States, reinforced by agreements such as the Comprehensive Security Integration and Prosperity Agreement (C-SIPA). HRH described C-SIPA as a key framework in advancing cooperation across multiple domains. His Royal Highness also stressed the critical role of the United States, together with its partners, in supporting regional security and sustainable development efforts. Discussions included regional and global issues of common interest. Shared priorities In both meetings, His Royal Highness highlighted Bahrain's commitment to deepening ties with its strategic allies and supporting stability and progress in the region. The presence of HH Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, and HE Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Minister of Finance and National Economy, at both engagements further reinforced the significance of the diplomatic consultations. These twin meetings on the same day reflect Bahrain's active diplomatic engagement and its growing role as a convening space for strengthening international cooperation.

Arab Students Access China's MIT
TDT | Manama Six students from Arab League nations have been awarded places at China's top-ranked Tsinghua University through a landmark new scholarship programme, marking the first time the prestigious institution has offered a dedicated scholarship exclusively for Arab students. The Hazem Ben- Gacem Arab Scholars Program, officially launched at a ceremony in Beijing on Monday, will support up to 15 students each year over the next five years for both undergraduate and postgraduate studies. Tsinghua, widely regarded as the 'MIT of China,' is known for its elite engineering and technology programmes and its alumni include many of China's current leaders. Historic initiative The scholarship was launched in the presence of diplomats and senior officials, including Bahrain's Ambassador to China, H.E. Dr Mohamed Shaikho and Professor Yang Bin, Vice Chancellor of the Tsinghua University Council. Organisers say the initiative aims to promote academic excellence, build cross-cultural ties, and enhance the strategic relationship between China and the Arab world. 'This programme reflects more than just academic support,' said Hazem Ben-Gacem, the founder of the scholarship and Chief Executive of BlueFive Capital. 'For more than a thousand years, the Arab region and China have been bound by a vibrant exchange of goods, knowledge, and cultural dialogue. We aim to cultivate leaders who will carry forward this agelong spirit of curiosity and collaboration.' Ben-Gacem, who formerly served as co-CEO of Investcorp, has previously established scholarships at Harvard, Oxford, and other top global institutions. His latest effort is seen as part of a growing trend of Arab investment in education diplomacy and global talent development. Shared values Tsinghua University officials described the programme as a milestone in the institution's global engagement. 'This initiative not only motivates recipients to pursue academic excellence but also strengthens the friendship between Tsinghua and the Arab world,' said Professor Yang. India-Bahrain digital bridge
TDT | Manama India-based gamification company Gamezop has announced a USD 4 million investment to establish its Middle East headquarters in Bahrain, positioning the Kingdom as its strategic entry point into the region's fast-expanding digital economy. The move marks a significant step in strengthening digital collaboration between India and Bahrain, as Gamezop aims to transform how apps and websites across the Middle East engage users. The expansion is backed by BITKRAFT Ventures and supported by the Bahrain Economic Development Board (EDB). Strategic gateway Founded by brothers Yashash and Gaurav Agarwal in 2016, Gamezop allows apps and websites to embed casual games, quizzes, astrology, and cricket content to increase user engagement and ad revenue. With its Bahrain hub, the company plans to onboard more than 1,000 new partner platforms across the region and double its global revenue within 18 months. Gamezop's co-founder Gaurav Agarwal said the company chose Bahrain for its business-friendly policies, digital readiness, and regional accessibility. 'Our presence here marks the beginning of what we hope will become a strong digital bridge between India and the Middle East,' he said. Backing Bahrain's vision According to Musab Abdulla, Executive Director of ICT at the Bahrain EDB, the arrival of Gamezop aligns with the Kingdom's vision to become a regional creative and digital content hub. 'Bahrain's gaming and content creation ecosystem is building strong momentum, powered by robust digital infrastructure and a growing pool of creative talent,' he said. The company's model is simple but powerful: it allows digital platforms to embed games and share the ad revenue generated. With over 45 million monthly users across 70+ countries and integration into more than 9,000 platforms, Gamezop brings international experience to its MENA expansion. Digital future Bahrain's selection as Gamezop's headquarters signals growing interest from Indian tech firms in using the Kingdom as a launchpad into the Gulf. The region's high smartphone usage, young population, and surging demand for interactive digital content make it a promising market for gamification-driven growth. Gamezop's entry is expected to create local job opportunities, foster partnerships with regional platforms, and contribute to Bahrain's long-term strategy of becoming a digital innovation leader.
