CODE27 AI Companion Exceeds Crowdfunding Expectations, Ignites Industry Buzz

Globe and Mail23-06-2025

CODE27 Character Livehouse, first unveiled at CES 2025 this January, successfully concluded its Kickstarter campaign at the end of May, raising over $1.7 million from over 3,200 backers.
Described as a Customizable 3D AI Companion Hub, CODE27 drew considerable attention at CES due to its integration of AI companionship, anime girl aesthetics, and otaku culture. It is claimed to be the world's first end-to-end customized AI companion that brings your favorite character to life.
CODE27 has redefined success in the AI companion hardware space, achieving one of the most significant crowdfunding milestones in the category's history. This breakthrough significantly outpaces industry benchmarks, where similar projects, such as Ropet and Looi, historically averaged $300,000–$500,000 in funding.
'The funds raised far exceeded our expectations,' said Brandon, a core developer at Sybran Innovation, the company behind CODE27. With over 10 years of experience in global hardware development, Brandon has led core product and R&D efforts at DJI, OPPO, and RayNeo. Besides, the team's expertise also spans Bytedance, EcoFlow, and other major tech innovators.
On its Kickstarter page, the CODE27 team shared the inspiration behind the project:
We are a passionate group of anime enthusiasts and geeks, eager to share both moments of joy and times of solitude with the characters we love. Believing that we can be truly accompanied by our favorite characters, we've come together to make this dream a reality. Inspired by the seed of Amadeus from Steins;Gate, which has been planted in our hearts for over a decade, we are fully committed to this project.
CODE27 allows users to freely customize characters, environments and expressions. Beyond appearances, CODE27 offers an open, highly customizable AI companion platform. Users can connect to any cloud or local AI model, upload custom 3D assets, and even program new behaviors using 'Spellbooks,' giving them deep creative control over how their companion looks, thinks, and interacts. The product launched at $429 for the base unit and $528 for the version that comes with a smart rotating base.
AI-powered companion hardware is often referred to as 'desktop pets.' The rise of generative AI has significantly lowered the barrier to human-computer interaction, opening up new possibilities for companionship-based products. As the category grows, it's the products with real innovation and vision that will ultimately succeed.

Olivia Munn discusses living with a very specific condition known as trichotillomania

Olivia Munn, seen here in April, is sharing that she lives with a health condition not many people know about. (via CNN Newsource) Olivia Munn is sharing that she lives with a health condition not many people know about. Munn spoke about her experience with trichotillomania – a mental health condition that 'involves frequent, repeated and irresistible urges to pull out hair from your scalp, eyebrows or other areas of your body,' according to the Mayo Clinic – while appearing on Monday's episode of the 'Armchair Expert' podcast. 'It could be hair at the top of your head, because there's a sensation. It's probably not even real, but I'll feel like, oh, this eyelash feels like it's gonna come out,' Munn said. 'And then when you pull it, there is a quick second of pain. And then there's a satisfaction and an immediate regret.' An incident with the paparazzi that happened while Munn was dating actor Chris Pine, to whom she was romantically linked between 2009 and 2010, sparked the onset of the condition, she said. Munn told the podcast's hosts Dax Shepard and Monica Padman that the then-couple were photographed leaving his apartment together at the time, and the photos were posted online. 'I did the horrible thing, which was to read the comments… And they were like, 'I think she set this up!'' Munn said regarding some of the insensitive reactions she read online. 'That began my trichotillomania. That was the very beginning.' The 'X-Men: Apocalypse' actress has been open about her health in recent years after she first revealed that she was diagnosed with a form of breast cancer known as Luminal B cancer in 2024. The cancer was found in both of her breasts, and Munn's treatment included a double mastectomy. Munn also shared in May that she underwent a hysterectomy as part of her treatment, telling Vogue that the procedure was an alternative to taking a cancer treatment medication that was causing her to experience 'next-level, debilitating exhaustion.' It was 'the best decision for me because I needed to be present for my family,' she added at the time. By Alli Rosenbloom, CNN

Oracle (ORCL) Stock Hits an All-Time High Amid Increased Cloud Demand

Optimism surrounding Oracle's ORCL cloud and AI infrastructure endeavors pushed its stock to an all-time high of $228 a share on Monday. This comes as the enterprise cloud leader has secured lucrative contracts thanks to its momentum in AI, with many analysts starting to raise their price targets for Oracle stock. That said, let's see if now is a good time to buy ORCL for higher highs. Massive Cloud Deal & AI Momentum Although the identity of the customer was not disclosed, Oracle stock spiked +4% on Monday following news of a regulatory filing in which the company had signed a massive $30 billion annual cloud services deal. Given the scale and nature of the contract, many analysts believe the client could be a major AI player like OpenAI. To that point, Oracle and OpenAI have formed a strategic partnership, collaborating on a massive AI training hub in Texas. As part of a broader $500 billion AI infrastructure initiative, which also includes Nvidia NVDA, Oracle is the venture's core infrastructure provider. Deemed Project Stargate, Oracle will be helping to expand OpenAI's compute capacity beyond Microsoft MSFT Azure. Embarking on a multi-cloud strategy, Microsoft and OpenAI are using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) to integrate Azure's AI cloud platform to produce enhanced training for large-language models (LLMs). With demand booming for OCI, Oracle's MultiCloud revenue is reportedly growing at over 100% in correlation with the need to support generative AI workloads such as OpenAI's ChatGPT. Reporting its fiscal fourth-quarter results earlier in the month, Oracle's Q4 sales stretched 11% year over year to $15.9 billion, pinpointing that its MultiCloud database revenue spiked 115% sequentially, driven by partnerships with Amazon's AMZN AWS and Alphabet's GOOGL Google Cloud, along with Microsoft Azure. ORCL Performance & Valuation Comparison Following today's rally, ORCL is up +30% in 2025. More impressive, Oracle stock is now sitting on +200% gains in the last three years to vastly outperform the broader indexes and its Zacks Computer-Software Market's +95%, which includes Microsoft stock at +90%. Image Source: Zacks Investment Research Furthermore, despite Oracle's blazing stock performance, at 31.3X forward earnings, ORCL still trades beneath Microsoft's 37.1X and their Zacks Computer-Software Industry average of 35.9X. Analysts Upgrade ORCL Price Target to $250 Citing strong cloud momentum, AI infrastructure growth, and a bullish outlook for Oracle's current fiscal year 2026, several financial firms have upped their price target for ORCL shares to $250, including analysts at Stifel, UBS, and Guggenheim. Bottom Line At the moment, Oracle stock currently lands a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). However, it wouldn't be surprising if a buy rating is on the way and perhaps higher highs for ORCL, as earnings estimates for Oracle are likely to rise in correlation with the announcement of its lucrative cloud services deal. Zacks Names #1 Semiconductor Stock It's only 1/9,000th the size of NVIDIA which skyrocketed more than +800% since we recommended it. NVIDIA is still strong, but our new top chip stock has much more room to boom. With strong earnings growth and an expanding customer base, it's positioned to feed the rampant demand for Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Internet of Things. Global semiconductor manufacturing is projected to explode from $452 billion in 2021 to $803 billion by 2028. That's been precisely the case for Credo Techology Group CRDO and Heico HEI, both of which presently sport a favorable Zacks Rank and are trading near 52-week highs with notable momentum. Let's take a closer look at what's been driving the bullish behavior.
