Peebles Rovers have been on the go for more than 130 years having been formed in 1888.
Previously members of the SFL, they've spent almost the past 100 years in the East of Scotland Football League, winning the league title six times and the First Division three times.
They were due to be competing in the EoSFL Second Division this coming season but have now pulled out just weeks ahead of the new season getting underway.
The dramatic decision comes after their home stadium was no longer deemed compliant going forward.
They've been playing at Whitestone Park since the early part of the 1900s but it now longer meets the criteria needed for clubs in the EoSFL.
The more stringent criteria means Peebles' ground fell foul of rules surrounding the changing facilities and fencing.
The situation meant the club faced being booted out of the league.
They explored a number of options, including developing the ground, moving elsewhere or ground-sharing with the local rugby club.
But none of those materialised.
Now, in a statement, the club have confirmed they've withdrawn from the Est of Scotland League.

They have, however, assured supporters that the club is NOT folding - and they intend to mount a comeback as soon as they possibly can.
The Peebles Rovers statement read: "It is with great regret that we have to announce that we have withdrawn from competing in the 2025/26 EoSFL season and its associated cup competitions.
"This is not a decision that has been taken lightly.
"We apologise to the league for the lateness in our communication, but we wanted to ensure that there was no other option before we came to this decision.
"Sadly, the lack of progress towards a compliant ground together with the threat of relegation due to having insufficient facilities made it impossible for us to assemble a management team and playing squad to tackle the long season ahead.
"Peebles Rovers has NOT folded, we will continue to pay our association fees and very much hope we receive the support we have been promised over the years to come back stronger in the shortest possible time.
"At this point, we would like to acknowledge all of our sponsors who have been behind us along the way and to ensure our kit sponsors that we will once again have their logos displayed on playing and training kit when we return.
"Finally, for now, thanks to everyone that has supported the club on and off the field and please, if you can lend a hand to get us back on our feet, then we would be delighted to hear from you."
The East of Scotland League Second Division will proceed with 15 teams next season instead of the planned 16.

Yet when it came to the sport she chose, having dabbled with football and cricket, she did not have any support until hooking up with the LTA aged 19 and earning Pro Scholarship Programme (PSP) funding. Kartal – who plays French qualifier Diane Parry on Friday – has £152,000 in her back pocket but if she wins two sets, she will add an extra £68,000 to her back balance. It had followed a runner-up result in the season-opener at Estoril and a winner's result at Jerez in the last race at the start of June. However, during Free Practice, he was involved in a fatal collision. It is reported Gomez had gone off track alone, but was then hit by the bike of another oncoming rider. A statement from his team, Team Honda Laglisse, confirmed the heartbreaking news. It said: "With all the pain in our hearts, we regret to announce that Borja Gomez has passed away at the Magny-Cours circuit after a serious accident in the first Free Practice of the European Stock Championship. "Beyond his exceptional talent as a pilot, we will remember Borja as the great person he was. "His kindness and smile will last forever. We will always carry him in our hearts. "On behalf of the whole Team Laglisse, we want to pass on our condolences to all his family and friends in these hard times that they are going through. "We love you, Borja. Rest in peace." Gomez had been a rider in Moto2, and dreamed of returning there one day. He began his career racing in Supermoto in Spain before racing in the 2019 Kawasaki Cup. Gomez then moved on to Superbikes, finishing second in the 2021 season of the Spanish Superbike Championship. A year later, he was once again runner-up for the Cardoso Team. In 2023 he joined Moto2 to compete with Fantic Racing, completing 13 Grand Prix before he had found his way to the FIM Stock European Championship. Former motorcyclist Ivan Moreno paid tribute online, saying: "We are not aware of what motorcycling riders risk day after day. "Just as it gives you glory, sometimes it takes away all your desire for everything. Today is a day of absolute sadness. "My deepest condolences to all of Borja Gómez's family and friends. RIP." Former Moto2 champion and MotoGP rider Tito Rabat said: "Although we think everything will turn out fine, we often forget how unfair and delicate life can be. Goodbye, little friend, rest in peace." Cadiz football club said: "The #CádizCF mourns the passing of the young Spanish driver, 20-year-old Borja Gómez, who lost his life today during training in France at the European Stock Championship." MotoGP journalist Simon Patterson said: "Tragic news: 20-year-old ESBK championship leader and former Moto2 racer Borja Gomez has been killed in a training crash at Magny-Cours. "Deepest condolences to his family, friends, team and fans."

‘It's becoming a real issue' – Luke Littler fired career warning over ‘draining' problem

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) LUKE LITTLER has been warned that getting BOOED by fans could seriously harm his career. The teen sensation was heavily jeered at the World Cup of Darts in Frankfurt before suffering a shock at the hands of Germany to exit the tournament in the second round. Former pro Vincent van der Voort expressed concern over the way Littler is being jeered by fans abroad after witnessing it at the US Darts Masters in New York last weekend. He said: 'It's becoming a real issue, especially when you consider how long his career could be. 'He was getting booed a lot in Germany at first, but now it's spreading. I was in New York last weekend and even there, the crowd was giving him a hard time.' Five-times major winner Littler reached the quarter-final of the US Masters but was knocked out by Nathan Aspinall despite averaging 109 and thumping in six 180s. Van der Voort recalls Littler looking frustrated after the World Series event due to the heckling he faced from the Madison Square Garden crowd. He added: 'He wasn't happy at all. The truth is, he's only really popular in England – and not even everywhere there. Outside of the UK, he's getting booed pretty much everywhere now, including in the US. 'There's got to be a shift. You don't want to be travelling from tournament to tournament and feel like no one's behind you. That's draining, especially at his age.' BEST ONLINE CASINOS - TOP SITES IN THE UK Teen sensation Littler sealed a 6-1 win against Jules van Dongen in round one at the Big Apple with a spectacular 120 checkout, hitting three tops. Van der Voort pointed to Littler's on-stage showmanship and off-stage comments as reasons for the growing backlash. Being made an MBE shows I've helped 'change face of darts' says Luke Humphries He admitted: 'It's the things he says and the way he carries himself. They're not helping his cause. 'You can turn people against you quickly in this sport if you're not careful.' The Dutchman stressed the importance of Littler having the right support system. He explained: 'It's unfortunate he doesn't seem to have the right people around him — people who can guide him, help him make better decisions, and teach him what's smart and what isn't. 'That's crucial at this stage. When you're 18, you think you know it all. But you don't. Later in life, you realise your parents were right about a lot more than you gave them credit for.'
