Ohio State Star Jeremiah Smith Reveals Just How Close He Was To Joining Miami Hurricanes

Yahoo2 days ago
Ohio State star receiver Jeremiah Smith revealed this week just how close he was to taking his talents to the Miami Hurricanes two years ago.
Jeremiah Smith took college football by storm in 2024 as a true freshman for the Buckeyes. In his first season in the Big Ten, the wide receiver led the team not just in yards (1,315) but also touchdowns (15) on just 76 catches. Ohio State does not win a National Championship last season without the young star.
However, things could have been different. Although OSU was a favorite to land him in 2023, the Hurricanes were reportedly a serious contender to win his recruiting sweepstakes. On Tuesday, Smith revealed to On3 just how close he got to taking his talents to Miami two years ago.
Jeremiah Smith stats: 76 catches, 1,315 receiving yards, 15 touchdowns, 17.3 yards per catch
'What went into me taking a long time to send my NIL was people on the business side of things. That night [that he sent his paperwork in], I definitely talked to Cam Ward. Thought about something… I didn't really tell him [that he was choosing OSU]. We just got on the phone, and he was like, 'What you gonna do?' And I was like, 'I don't know.' Then, a couple of hours later, I sent the NIL in.'
Jeremiah Smith NIL value: $4.2 million
Smith admits he has not talked to Ward since he made his decision. However, he does not believe the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft and new Tennessee Titans QB holds any grudges.
The Hurricanes had an outstanding offense in 2024 and posted a 10-3 record. Many in Miami believe that if Smith had committed to the program, they would have reached the college football playoffs and had a chance to compete for a National title. Ohio State fans are very happy he did not choose South Beach over Columbus.

The Athletic declares Jeremiyah Love the best running back in college football for 2025

The Athletic has named Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love as the best RB1 prospect for the 2025 season. Love, a draft-eligible underclassman who stands an estimated six-feet tall and weighs an estimated 210 pounds, is author Dane Brugler's clear number one prospect. Brugler says that Love has "instinctive athleticism", though he must get better at pass-catching. Brugler says Love is clearly the best running back in college football and has the talent to be the best playmaker in next year's draft. Here's an example of Brugler's analysis. "It doesn't take a trained eye to spot Love's exceptional talent. A springy athlete, he has the lateral agility to bounce between gaps and the immediate acceleration to burst through holes at full speed. He ties it all together with innate patience and reactionary movements — those traits plus his balance through contact make him a nightmare to tackle." Brugler suggests Notre Dame may have won the national title over Ohio State had Love not been hampered by a knee injury. I think it's safe to say we're all hoping to see Love at 100 percent this fall. Teddy Jarrard committed to Notre Dame and then posted one of best verbal videos out there

Notre Dame football has gotten off to a great start in the 2027 recruiting cycle, and on Thursday it got even better at Georgia quarterback Teddy Jarrard committed to the Irish. The rising junior ended the process extremely early, which is big for Notre Dame as he now can help with other prospects who he'd like to see join him. In the 2026 class, the Irish had the same type of early commitment with Noah Grubbs, and that has turned out pretty well. It wasn't all that surprising that Jarrard opted to pick Notre Dame over Georgia, Ohio State, Penn State, and Michigan, as it seemed like destiny that he was going to pick the Irish. In his commitment video, it sure seemed that way. He shared it on social media, and it's one of the better ones that has come out. It starts with him playing pee wee football, then quickly goes to Notre Dame campus while is followed by multiple clips of former and present stars. It concludes with his phone call with his new head coach Marcus Freeman, telling him that he is committing. Check out the full video below, as the Irish secured their 2027 quarterback early and will continue to build on another great class.
