He had a short but successful title-winning spell as Kelty Hearts manager as well as two spells working with the academy at Ibrox.
He returned the the under-18s earlier this year in a shake up of the development phase at the club.
But with the club going through a period of massive change, Thomson still isn't sure what the immediate future holds.
Speaking on BBC Sportsound, he said: "I went back in the second week in February. We finished up the third in May.
"Obviously in that time there's been a takeover, a new manager.
"My contract's finished on June 30. As of yet I've not really had much dialogue with the club.
"I'm just waiting to see what's what. Moving forward, if there's an opportunity there then brilliant.
"If there's not, then you know what I'm like, I just bash on and keep grafting away."
The San Francisco 49ers Enterprises buyout was confirmed a little under a month ago, with new gaffer Russell Martin unveiled the following week.
Matt Gill came in as assistant while Issame Charai - who stuck around as coach after Philippe Clement was sacked - departed.

Chief executive Patrick Stewart said: 'I want to place on record the sincere thanks of both the club and I to Issame for his work over the past six months.
'Through the managerial transition in February and beyond, he handled himself superbly and was a real asset to Barry and his staff during their period in charge of the team.
'As the men's first-team moves forth into this new era under Russell, it has been agreed between the club and Issame for him to move on.
'For whatever comes next for him, I want to wish him the very best of luck. He will always be welcome back at Ibrox.'
Barry Ferguson's interim team leaned heavily on former players who knew the club - Allan McGregor, Billy Dodds and Neil McCann.
With the new manager's coaching staff lacking numbers thus far and Thomson awaiting discussions, he could continue on with the youngsters or find himself in the dugout alongside Martin... or of course end up elsewhere.

‘Same incompetence every time' – Scotland fans left raging at ticket shambles that forces SFA to CANCEL all sales

The SFA have released a statement on the issue TICKET FARCE 'Same incompetence every time' – Scotland fans left raging at ticket shambles that forces SFA to CANCEL all sales SCOTLAND fans have been left fuming after a ticket cock-up saw all sales for the trip to Denmark CANCELLED. The SFA started to sell briefs for the World Cup qualifier away to the Danes on September 5 this morning. 2 Steve Clarke aims to lead Scotland to the World Cup Credit: Kenny Ramsay 2 Scotland fans are not happy with ticket shambles Credit: Rex But hours later they informed all members of the Scotland Supporters Club who had managed to secure seats that their tickets were no longer valid. Hampden chiefs blamed a "technical error" that allowed fans who didn't have enough points to buy tickets in the sale that was meant to be restricted to those with between 32 and 21 points. An SFA message explaining the issue said: "The Scottish FA is aware of a technical error that occurred during this morning's ticket sale for the upcoming FIFA World Cup Qualifying match against Denmark, which allowed purchase by some Scotland Supporters Club (SSC) members who were not eligible during the window that was reserved for those with 32-21 Points. "As a result, we will regrettably need to restart the sales process from scratch in the interest of fairness, with any purchase that was made today being cancelled and refunded. "The new sale will commence at 10am on Wednesday, 23 July. "The SFA would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused to supporters." The news angered many fans, with some complaining that the new sale time could mean they now miss out on a ticket. One fan said: "How hard is it for them to do the right thing first time. "They've had a week to set it up? And only have to do it 5 times a year... It's the same incompetence every time." Another fan said sarcastically: "Ahhh great! Working tomorrow afternoon when tickets go on sale to those on 20+ points and above which means it'll be harder for me to get my ticket. Cheers." The away trip to Denmark kicks off Scotland's World Cup qualifying campaign. Three days later Steve Clarke's men are on the road again when they face Belarus - with the game to be played in Hungary. They then have a home double header against Greece and Belarus on October 9 and 12. A trip to Greece is next on November 15 before the campaign ends at Hampden Park against the Danes on November 18. Pressley in Dundee 'predicament', says McGowan

Herald football writer Stephen McGowan thinks that Steven Pressley will need time to "put his stamp on the place" at Dens new Dundee manager has lost his first two cup games, which means his side have an uphill battle if they want to progress in the comeptition. While McGowan thinks it will take time for it to come together for the Scot, he believes the fans won't give him the luxury."I know it sounds counter-intuitive to say it, I don't really blame Steven Pressley for this situation," said McGowan on the BBC's Scottish Football Podcast."I tend to blame the people who decided that Tony Docherty had to go and he had to come in in the first place."I spoke to Docherty and the more I read, the more I looked at it, the more I thought he'd been really harshly dealt with."Dundee finished 10th with a relatively young team. Docherty played more young players, under 21, than any other manager in the league, and he was dismissed."I thought that was really harsh, that was hard and I think it looks more harsh given the start that Pressley has made."Now Pressley, I suppose a bit like Russell Martin, will need bit of time to put his stamp on the place. He says he needs more new signings in."But the fans are already pretty unhappy with the way things are going, and the one thing he's not going to get is lots of time because many of them wouldn't have chosen him in the first place. That puts him in really difficult predicament."
