Anvi, a student of Alok Bharti School in Kotli and a resident of Doon village in Sarkaghat, secured the fourth position in the Class 10 Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education (HPBOSE) exams and emerged as the district topper. Recognising her academic excellence, she was selected to serve as the Deputy Commissioner under the newly introduced 'DC for a Day' campaign.

On Friday morning, Anvi was warmly received at the DC office by Deputy Commissioner Apoorva Devgan and the staff, as reported by PTI. She was given a tour of various administrative sections and briefed on the responsibilities involved in district-level governance. Her father, Vikram Singh Thakur, and grandfather accompanied her during this special experience.
Her day as the DC began with overseeing an earthquake mock drill. She interacted with officials, assessed the drill, and reviewed the district's disaster preparedness. She later visited multiple departments within the DC office to understand their functions and participated in a public grievance redressal session, where she heard complaints and issued directions for resolution.
Describing the experience as the most unforgettable day of her life, Anvi thanked the district administration for the opportunity. 'Today I got to know closely the work of a Deputy Commissioner, his responsibilities and the administrative process," she told PTI, reflecting on her hands-on exposure to governance and leadership.
Deputy Commissioner Apoorva Devgan shared that the 'DC for a Day' initiative aims to foster leadership qualities, confidence, and a sense of social responsibility among students. The campaign builds on past efforts like 'Apna Vidyalaya' and 'Apna Pustakalaya' to support student development and community engagement.

‘Maunvrat…': Shashi Tharoor's cryptic two-word reply to Operation Sindoor debate question

As Parliament gears up for a high-stakes debate on the Pahalgam terror attack and the government-led Operation Sindoor, a cloud of speculation surrounds whether senior Congress MP Shashi Tharoor will participate in the discussion. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor during the Monsoon session of Parliament(PTI) When asked by reporters outside Parliament on Monday about his possible participation in the debate, Tharoor offered a cryptic two-word response: 'Maunvrat, Maunvrat.' He did not elaborate or take any further questions. The comments come when one of the key talking points in political circles is whether Tharoor, who had recently led a parliamentary outreach delegation to the United States and other countries, will be fielded by the Congress to speak during the debate. The Thiruvananthapuram MP's complicated relationship with the Congress party in recent times have only fueled the suspense. Tharoor's apparent support for the government's swift response to the Pahalgam attack had reportedly led to friction within party ranks. The Congress leadership has not confirmed whether Tharoor will be among the designated speakers so far. The Monsoon session, which witnessed repeated disruptions during its first week, is expected to shift gears Monday with a focused debate on national security and foreign policy concerns. The session that began at 11 AM, saw adjournment minutes later amid ruckus by Opposition party MPs. As the Congress gears up to confront the BJP-led central government over Operation Sindoor, the party has reiterated its demand that Prime Minister Narendra Modi must be present in Parliament when the issue of 'Pahalgam-Operation Sindoor' is taken up for discussion. The grand old party has been pressing for a full-fledged debate on the matter since the monsoon session began last week. Congress general secretary in-charge of communications, Jairam Ramesh, criticised the Prime Minister's foreign travel schedule and accused him of ignoring pressing domestic concerns. '48 hours later, the Super Premium Frequent Flyer will start yet another foreign visit and the people of Manipur will have more cause for disappointment,' Ramesh said, referring to Modi's planned trip abroad. Prime Minister Modi recently returned from a four-day visit to the United Kingdom and the Maldives, where he concluded a significant free trade agreement with the UK. Last week, taking a swipe on social media platform X, Ramesh wrote, 'Very shortly the nattily dressed Prime Minister will give his usual Desh ke Naam Sandesh through the media outside the Parliament Building before the commencement of the Monsoon Session of Parliament. This will be full of his usual platitudes and hypocrisy.' Ramesh further added, 'Prime Minister Modi is very, very, very rarely present in Parliament. He speaks once a year on the Motion of Thanks to the President's Address. But this time he owes it to the country to be present when the issue of Pahalgam-Operation Sindoor-President Trump is finally taken up for discussion.'

'Did you take chance…?': SC to Justice Yashwant Varma on his plea against probe into cash at his home

'Why did you appear before the inquiry committee? Did you take chance of favourable order there first?' the Supreme Court asked Justice Yashwant Varma on Monday, as he sought quashing of an adverse report of the SC in-house committee. Justice Yashwant Varma(PTI File) The committee found him guilty of misconduct over the unaccounted-for cash found at his Delhi residence in March. Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for Justice Varma, submitted that there is a process to be followed under Article 124 of the Constitution, and that a judge can't be a subject of public debate, PTI reported. At this point, the bench asked, "Why did you (Justice Varma) appear before the inquiry committee? Did you take a chance of a favourable order there first?" Justice Varma's plea challenges the probe report and the committee's very remit. It also seeks quashing of the then CJI Sanjiv Khanna's recommendation to initiate impeachment proceedings against him. For now posted at the Allahabad high court, Justice Varma is staring at action via Parliament. He was not present there, and has strongly denied any involvement, asserting that neither he nor his family members placed the cash in the storeroom. He has also alleged that the probe committee proceeded in a pre-determined fashion and merely drew inferences. He wants that the recommendation by the CJI — asking the President and Prime Minister to start his removal process — be declared unconstitutional, ANI reported. ‘Tujhe pata hai mera baap kaun hai': Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi admits pulling power card during student days

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, son of former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, admitted that, as a student, he once used a well-known phrase—asking a cop in Delhi whether they knew who his father was. However, it didn't work out, as he believes he was from North East. 'You know the Delhi phrase, 'Tujhe pata hai mera baap kaun hai?' I used it once. But it didn't work—because I was from Assam," Gogoi revealed during an India Today podcast. He stated that the name didn't have the same significance in Delhi, explaining, 'People in Delhi don't really know where the North East is. If I was from Delhi, maybe there would've been some 'respect'.' Gogoi noted he has deliberately refrained from using his father's name to his advantage. He said, 'People who know me know I've never fronted my father's background" and emphasised his desire to be evaluated based on his own achievements rather than his family ties. 'There's a different kind of attention or treatment that comes when people find out who your father is. So I would just say he works in government. And when people would press to know more, I would block the question. I wanted to create my own identity," India Today quoted him as saying. The discussion also delved into Delhi's elite circles, where the children of politicians and bureaucrats are often labelled 'baba log,' a term associated with inherited privilege. Gaurav Gogoi, however, recalled a different experience. He shared, 'I used to naively say 'No, I don't know him' when people brought up my dad, because I genuinely wanted to keep that separation.' He stressed while he bears the legacy of a respected leader, he chooses to create his own path, guided not by his family name, but by his actions. Meanwhile, as per PTI sources, the party's Deputy Leader in the House, Gogoi, is likely to lead the opposition party's charge on the first day of the debate in Parliament as Monsoon session continues. The two sides have agreed to a 16-hour debate in each House.
