One Maoist has been killed by the security forces in an ongoing anti-Maoist operation in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district, said the police on Saturday (July 5, 2025).
A senior police officer said that the gunfight between the Maoists and a security team has been going on in the National Park area of Bijapur since Friday (July 4) evening during which the casualty was inflicted.
Earlier, said the officer, based on the intelligence received about the presence of a large cadre of Maoists in the National Park area of the Bijapur district, a search operation was started by joint teams of security forces.
'During the operation, intermittent encounters are going on between security forces and Maoists since yesterday, 04/07/2025. In the search operation so far, the body of one male Maoist has been recovered from the encounter site along with weapons,' he said.
A police statement added that since the operation was still going on, more information was 'not being shared keeping in mind the safety of the soldiers involved in the operation'.
In his recent visit to Chhattisgarh late June, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had said that in a departure from, the past anti-Maoist operations would continue in the Bastar forests in monsoon this year.
Traditionally, the operations are halted during the rains because sustained rainfall and floods hamper any action inside dense forests.

It is incorrect to say that multiple Rafale jets of the Indian Air Force were shot down by Pakistan during Operation Sindoor, Defence Secretary RK Singh has said. During an interview to CNBC-TV18, Singhrefused to answer a question regarding the losses the Air Force suffered during the initial phase of the four-day conflict. 'You have used the term Rafales in the plural, I can assure you that is absolutely not correct,' Singh told CNBC-TV18. 'Pakistan suffered losses many times over India in both human and material terms and more than 100 terrorists,' said the defence secretary. He reiterated that the government had given the Indian military operational freedom during the conflict. This came following a remark by Captain Shiv Kumar, India's defence attaché to Indonesia, on June 10 that the Indian Air Force had lost fighter jets to Pakistan during Operation Sindoor on May 7 because of the 'constraint given by the political leadership'. Bihar Election: Chirag Paswan says LJP (Ram Vilas) will contest all 243 seats, vows to take state to ‘new heights'

Chirag Paswan, president of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) and Union minister, has made his intentions clear for the upcoming Bihar assembly polls, stating that his party will contest all 243 seats. He also alleged a 'conspiracy' to thwart his entry into Bihar politics. 'I want to take Bihar to new heights. I visualise a future in which our boys and girls will not need to go outside in search of greener pastures; rather, people from other states will come here in search of better education and employment opportunities,' Paswan said at a rally in Saran district on Sunday. Claiming that his passion made many people uneasy, Paswan said: 'These people are content with having secured their own future, and they worry about my vision of 'Bihar First, Bihari First' catching public imagination. So they are involved in a conspiracy to hinder my involvement in state politics. They are trying to create confusion in the minds of the people by asking whether Chirag Paswan will contest the assembly polls himself.' The 42-year-old LJP (Ram Vilas) chief, who has been denying that he had his eyes on the chief minister's post, further said: 'I want to put an end to such designs by proclaiming, from this glorious land of Saran, yes, I will contest the assembly polls. I will contest in all 243 seats. Every segment will see Chirag Paswan fighting with full intensity.' Meanwhile, Paswan has expressed concern over law and order in Bihar. Recently, top industrialist Gopal Khemka was shot dead from point-blank range outside his home in Patna. Paswan said such incidents raised doubts over the ability of the Nitish Kumar government, 'which we support and which has so far enjoyed a reputation for good governance'. He also commented: 'I am fully in support of Bihari youth's demand for a domicile policy. The rights of our young men and women must be protected. But it must be pointed out that the domicile policy, brought in 2006, was scrapped in 2023, when the RJD was sharing power, its de facto leader was the Deputy CM, and another senior leader was the education minister.'
