Red Sox place Hunter Dobbins on injured list with torn ACL
Although he tried to stay in the game, throwing one practice pitch, he was in clear pain and was pulled by manager Alex Cora.
'He said he felt it when he jumped for the throw and when he landed,' Cora said after the game.
The club's eighth-round draft pick in 2021, Dobbins, 25, finishes the season with a 4-1 record, 4.13 ERA, and 1.28 WHIP in 13 games (11 starts).
To fill Dobbins's roster spot and perhaps rotation spot, the Red Sox brought back Richard Fitts, another rookie righthander, from Triple A Worcester.
The Red Sox don't need a fifth starter again until July 22, the second game of their series at the Phillies after the All-Star break, so they have time to decide what to do.
Their other in-house option is Tanner Houck, whose minor league rehab assignment is set to expire next week. He has been out with a right flexor pronator strain for two months.

Yankees' Jazz Chisholm Jr. favored keeping swing vs. HRs in Derby

Photo by Mike Zarrilli/UPI | License Photo July 15 (UPI) -- New York Yankees infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. said he prioritized not changing his in-season swing during the 2025 MLB Home Run Derby, which led to just a three home run showing and first-round elimination. Chisholm made the comments when he met with reporters Monday in Atlanta. The second-time All-Star, who hit 17 home runs through 65 games this season, totaled the fewest blasts among the eight participants in the annual slugfest, 51 fewer than champion Cal Raleigh. "It's not that I wasn't trying to hit homers," Chisholm said. "I was trying to keep my swing and hit homers, instead of just trying to hit everything in the air. "I was trying to keep my line drive swing and hit homers. But it gets better." Chisholm, who received criticism on social media for his subpar Home Run Derby performance, said he would enter the event again next year and try to hit home runs every swing if he has at least 20 home runs at the All-Star break. Chisholm's stepdad, Geron Sands, pitched to him during the competition. He said he had the "full-circle" moment in his head while hacking away at Sands' offerings. "I smiled to myself and I was like, 'Dang. We're actually doing this right now," Chisholm said. "We are actually hitting in the Home Run Derby and he's actually throwing to me." Raleigh, who took home $1 million for his efforts, hit 18 long balls in the final round to beat the 15 hit by finale foe Junior Caminero of the Tampa Bay Rays. The Seattle Mariners star, who leads MLB with 38 home runs at the break, will join Chisholm in the American League lineup when they face the National League in the 2025 All-Star Game at 8 p.m. EDT Tuesday at Truist Park. The game will air on Fox.

2025 WNBA MVP, DPOY, ROY Odds: Betting, Futures, Predictions including Clark, Collier, Thomas
It's Week 9 of the WNBA season and we have a new contender for MVP behind Minnesota's Napheesa Collier as Caitlin Clark continues to drop further out the race. For DPOY, A'ja Wilson's odds are even more tempting than ever, but is she the best bet? MVP and DPOY dds are courtesy of DraftKings and subject to change. Rookie of the Year is still being offered on FanDuel and BetMGM as Paige Bueckers runs away with the award. Next week, I will cover Most Improved Player and Coach of the Year as Rookie of the Year is all but over. WNBA MVP Ladder: Napheesa Collier (-600) continues her dominance in this market, but as Caitlin Clark (+3000) continues to drop out of the race due to too many missed games and recent performance, Alyssa Thomas (+600) has been the biggest beneficiary. Thomas went from +5000 to +2500 to +600 over the last three weeks, so she is the hottest bet in this market, but the value has pretty much disappeared. The recent movement is because of a 15-point, 15-assist and 10-rebound triple-double in a 30-point win versus Dallas. The next game, Thomas went for 29 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists, followed by another monster performance of 17 points, 11 assists, and 6 rebounds. Thomas is balling right now, but the recent play is likely unsustainable. Breanna Stewart's (+2000) odds have dropped because she has shot below 50% in five straight games and gone 3-of-17 from deep in that span. It's still Collier's award to lose and I'm not hedging. WNBA DPOY Ladder: Napheesa Collier (+350) is technically second in terms of odds to win DPOY, but winning MVP and DPOY in the same season is very difficult to do. In fact, it's only been done four times since 2007 (A'ja Wilson, Lauren Jackson, Lisa Leslie, Sheryl Swoopes). Collier's rise in this market is likely via the direct descent of A'ja Wilson (+250) and being the MVP favorite. Wilson missed a game after leaving in the second quarter against the Liberty, then returned for 34 points, 16 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 blocks, and 1 steal in a 104-102 win versus Golden State. While Wilson was amazing and so are her on-and-off the court defensive splits, the Aces still allowed 102 points with her back, which is concerning. Gabby Williams (+400) is the only player in the league to average more than 2.0 steals per game (she averages 2.5), while Alanna Smith (+500) and Ezi Magbegor (+600) are two of three players to average at least 2.0 blocks per game (A'ja Wilson). The DPOY market is a crap shoot right now. I will wait to have a concrete pick to make up for the 2 units I've already deployed amongst four long shot players who aren't in the race. WNBA ROY Ladder: DraftKings shut down this market, while FanDuel and BetMGM still list odds for the race with Paige Bueckers between -5000 and -6000, while Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen are both +2500 or +3000. All three of these rookies will be represented in the WNBA All-Star game, so they've had terrific seasons, but Bueckers already locked up this award. Bueckers scored at least 20 points in eight games this season and six of the past nine outings. Vaughn Dalzell's WNBA Futures Bets: 2 units: Stephanie White to win Coach of the Year (+115) 2 units: Minnesota Lynx to win Championship (+340) 2 units: A'ja Wilson to win MVP (+225) 2 units: Napheesa Collier to win MVP (+150) 0.5 unit: Napheesa Collier to win MVP (+300) 0.5 unit: Jonquel Jones to win DPOY (+3000) 0.5 unit: Angel Reese to win DPOY (+2000) 0.5 unit: Aliyah Boston to win DPOY (+3500) 0.5 unit: Kamila Cardoso to win DPOY (+5500) 0.5 unit: Kayla Thornton to win MIP (+400) 0.5 unit: Brittney Sykes to win MIP (+250) 0.5 unit: Aliyah Boston to win MIP (+1500) 0.5 unit: Kamila Cardoso to win MIP (+3000) 0.5 unit: Seattle Storm to win the Championship (+2500) Please bet responsibly. Miami Marlins draft Florida RHP Jake Clemente in Round 7
After waiting six rounds for a Florida baseball player to be called in the 2025 MLB draft, it took just 32 picks for a second Gator to hear his name. The Miami Marlins took right-handed reliever Jake Clemente with the 198th pick in the seventh round. A South Florida native out of Broward County, Clemente is a hometown pick for an organization still trying to find its footing under new front office management. The Marlins also took a former Florida Gator and high school teammate of Clemente, Chris Arroyo, in the round prior. Reuniting the duo that led the core years of the Stoneman Douglas High School dynasty just an hour away from where it all started, was a no-brainer. With that said, Clemente's sixth-round selection isn't just the kicker at the end of a fairytale story. It's the product of years of hard work and resiliency, too. Clemente left the high school ranks on top, alongside Arroyo and Boston Red Sox top prospect Roman Anthony. But in college, he was no longer a big fish in a little pond. Injury took away his true freshman year, accelerating the three-year clock most draft hopefuls start college with. He returned as a second-year college player with no innings under his belt and was thrust into SEC action after just four outings. A 5.34 ERA over 28 2/3 innings left room for improvement, and his 14.8% walk rate was on the fringe of acceptability thanks to a 28.9% strikeout rate. Still, those kinds of numbers during a bounceback campaign and a fastball trending toward the upper-90s make for a good prospect. It all came together last summer for Clemente, who earned an All-Star nod after posting a 3.00 ERA and 29 strikeouts over 27 innings for the Brewster Whitecaps. The slider was working as an out pitch and the fastball was finally back at full strength, all while operating as a starter. Kevin O'Sullivan named Clemente the Sunday starter for Florida to open the year, but an early-season back injury and some rough outings after led him back to the bullpen. That's when Clemente stepped into a long-relief closer role. Good for three innings, but maybe not four, Clemente became the guy no one in the SEC wanted to see walking down from the bullpen. From April forward, Clemente dominated out of the bullpen, allowing just five earned runs over the final 31 innings of his college career. Although Clemente appears destined for a bullpen role, adding a third pitch to the fastball-slider combo could give him life as a starter in the minor leagues.
