Kalidou Sidibe to Celtic transfer silence broken as boss 'isn't fooled' and knows player wants to talk
Celtic have been given a boost in their pursuit of reported target Kalidou Sidibe, with the Guincamp star's manager under no illusions about the prospect of the midfielder moving on this summer.
The Hoops are looking to build from a position of strength in the summer window, with next season's Champions League qualification play-off not too far away.
Attacking options will be high on the agenda, with talk around Brondby frontman Mathias Kvistgaarden and Slovakian striker David Strelec - who were both targets for Celtic in January - not going anywhere.
But reports in France have linked the champions with 26-year-old Sidibe in recent months, who stands at a colossal 6ft7 inches.
The Paris-born player is into the final 12 months of his contract with the Ligue 1 club, who are said to value him at around £1.7million.
And Guincamp boss Sylvain Ripoll admits he knows the towering midfielder will be open to moving elsewhere should the right opportunity arise.
Asked by Le Telegramme, about the prospect of Sidibe and young midfielder Hugo Picard remaining with the club going into next season, Ripoll replied: "I'd hope so, but I'm not fooled either.
"They probably want to see what's going on there.
"They only have one year left on their contracts.
"As long as their interests are protected, the club will listen.
"So there must be the requests the players want and the club must be protected.
"But if they stay with us, I would be very happy."

Luke McCowan hopes his improvement at Celtic can lead to maiden Scotland call-up
The 27-year-old earned a move to Parkhead last summer after excelling for Dundee and has been touted for international recognition in recent seasons. Despite featuring in 41 matches for the Scottish champions last term, McCowan has yet to be called up by Steve Clarke. 'Of course, if it comes along, I'd be absolutely honoured to go and put that top on and represent my country,' he said. 'Just now, it's not happening. But if I play well enough in the times ahead, I'm sure it'll hopefully come along. McCowan, right, in action against Queen's Park on Friday (Andrew Milligan/PA) 'Listen, it's not something that I'm totally focused on, I'm focused on Celtic, but if that was to come along, I'd be absolutely delighted.' McCowan believes a Scotland call-up is well within his grasp if he can build on his first season at Celtic. 'It's an aim for anybody playing at a club this size, to go and play for your national team,' he said. 'I just need to keep doing what I have been doing and I if I can add numbers and more game time in the league this year, hopefully it'll come around. 'I have something to offer at Celtic, so why can't I do it with Scotland? I'm sure at some point, if I was to keep the level I have been doing here, it'll come along. And if it does, then I'll come out with open arms and be delighted with it.' McCowan made 41 appearances for Celtic last term (Steve Welsh/PA) McCowan, who started 14 games for Celtic last term, is confident he can show further improvement in his game and feature more prominently in the season ahead. 'If you don't think like that, there's no point in continuing,' he said. 'I just need to keep learning. I need to keep doing it and hope that this season can be even bigger than the one last year. 'It's about repeating it and probably doing better than what I did again. Adding more numbers again and more creativity, whatever it may be. 'It's about using the good of last year and then trying to improve the bits that maybe weren't so good for myself and getting them better for the season ahead.'

Arsenal sign Spain midfielder Martin Zubimendi
The Spain international, 26, moves to the Emirates Stadium on a long-term deal after the Gunners reportedly triggered his £51million release clause. Euro 2024 winner Zubimendi had previously been a target for Liverpool and was also linked with Real Madrid. Martin Zubimendi, right, played against England in the Euro 2024 final (Adam Davy/PA) Zubimendi told the club website: 'This is a huge moment in my career. It's the move I was looking for and one I wanted to make. As soon as you set foot here, you realise how big this club and this team are. 'I set my sights on Arsenal because their style of play is a good fit for me. They have shown their potential recently and the best is yet to come.' Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is confident Zubimendi can help reinforce his midfield options, having seen Thomas Partey's contract expire and Jorginho also leave the club. 'Martin is a player who will bring a huge amount of quality and football intelligence to our team. He will fit in really well and he has all the attributes to be a key player for us,' Arteta said. 'The standard he has consistently performed at over the last few seasons for both club and country is exactly why we are so excited to have him with us. We all welcome Martin and his family to the club.' A graduate of the Sociedad academy system, Zubimendi made 236 appearances for the club in all competitions at senior level and helped the team lift the delayed 2019-20 Copa del Rey with victory over Athletic Bilbao. He was also involved as Sociedad finished fourth in the 2022-23 season – their highest league finish – to reach the Champions League for only the third time in their history. The midfielder has been capped 19 times by Spain, where he was part of the squad who won the Nations League in 2023 and became European champions last year after beating England in the final. Zubimendi becomes Arsenal's second signing this summer after goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga joined from Chelsea. The Gunners are also expected to complete the signing of Christian Norgaard, with the Brentford captain looking set to join for a reported £10m with a potential £5m of add-ons.
