Praise for South Lanarkshire schools following inspections
Top marks have been delivered to schools across South Lanarkshire after they were given a major assessment by education bosses.
Schools have undergone inspections like others throughout the country,
In all some 17 primary, secondary and nursery establishments were inspected with more than 95 per cent rating as good or better.
Four primary schools, one secondary and one early years establishment were also highlighted as having practice worth sharing nationally.
Interim chair of the Education Resources Committee, Councillor Gavin Keatt welcomed the results.
He said: 'I'm delighted that so many of our schools are performing so well, and the inspections by HMIe confirm this.
'It's testament to the hard work that goes on in the background by teachers, support staff and the whole school community.

'I am confident staff across Education Resources will continue to deliver a first-class environment for all our pupils to learn in and build on our capacity for improvement.'
Last year, a team of inspectors from Education Scotland visited South Lanarkshire Council, talking to senior leaders, local authority officers, parents/carers, head teachers, teachers, representatives from professional associations and elected members.
A national thematic inspection on local authority approaches to school improvement was also carried out during the past school year, and a number of areas of strength across South Lanarkshire was also highlighted.

East Kilbride school 'superheroes' launch campaign to boost attendance
Led by Ellie, from Kirktonholme Primary, the pupils helped South Lanarkshire Council kick off its campaign to boost and maintain attendance in schools. Every School Day Matters aims to highlight the social and lifelong benefits of education, and as the term draws to a close, it is targeting young children preparing to start in August. (Image: South Lanarkshire Council) Councillor Gavin Keatt, depute chairperson of the council's education resources committee, says the campaign comes on the back of startling research which reveals the impact of low attendance. He said: 'I was taken aback to discover that, from our own research, a young person who misses even a few weeks of school each year, from P1 through to S3, loses an entire year of education.' (Image: South Lanarkshire Council) He added: 'Family life is busy, and from time to time it might seem that a day's absence here or there really doesn't make a difference. We know that's not the case. 'Coming to school is about so much more than books and numbers. It helps to nurture, support and create social skills, friendships, support networks, resilience and the ability to learn, change and adapt.' (Image: South Lanarkshire Council) Councillor Keatt met Ellie, the face of the campaign, to highlight to families that 'every pupil can find their superpower in the classroom' adding: 'That could be in the art class, music hall, playground, science lab and playing field.' He said: 'Being in school is the foundation upon which happy, successful and resilient young people are built.' A dedicated page is now live on the council website, with lots of information, support, links and advice on the campaign, which will run at various times across the coming school year, and will focus on specific groups, including secondary schools, as it progresses.

North Lanarkshire marks Armed Forces Day 2025 with ceremonial flag-raising at council headquarters
Event saw Provost Kenneth Duffy joined by local veterans, elected members, Depute Provost Bob Burgess and Colonel Ted Shields MBE, Depute Lord Lieutenant. North Lanarkshire paid tribute to the armed forces community ahead of Armed Forces Day 2025 with a ceremonial flag-raising at council headquarters in Motherwell. The event saw Provost Kenneth Duffy joined by local veterans, elected members, Depute Provost Bob Burgess and Colonel Ted Shields MBE, Depute Lord Lieutenant, as the official Armed Forces Day flag was raised in recognition of service personnel past and present. Speaking at the event, Provost Duffy said: "It's a privilege to stand alongside veterans and community leaders to show our gratitude for the dedication and sacrifice of our Armed Forces. "North Lanarkshire has a proud military tradition, and Armed Forces Day is a chance for us all to reflect on the bravery and commitment of those who serve - and those who have served - both here and abroad." The ceremony is part of a wider campaign across the UK to honour the Armed Forces community, which includes serving personnel, veterans, reservists, cadets, and military families.
