Olympic bronze medalist Eumir Marcial is fulfilling his dream of fighting alongside Manny Pacquiao as he will be in one of the undercard fights in Pacman's match against Mario Barrios on July 19 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
The 29-year old Marcial will take on 30-year old American Alexis Gaytan in an eight-round middleweight non-title bout on the same date, according to MP Promotions president Sean Gibbons.
'Ever since I started boxing, the reason I started I was so inspired by Manny Pacquiao as a kid when I watched him fighting on TV,' Marcial said.
'It was my dream to always fight along and eventually and to be on a card with Manny Pacquiao.'
Marcial bagged the bronze medal in the Olympics back in 2021 in Tokyo, but fell short in his bid for another medal last 2024 in Paris.
As a professional, Marcial has a 5-0 record, with three knockouts. He last fought professionally in March 2023 in the Philippines where he knocked out Thailand's Thoedsak Sinam in the fourth round.
Gaytan, meanwhile, has a 17-10 record with six knockouts.
Marcial arrived in the United States on Tuesday, along with Jerwin Ancajas, Mark Magsayo, and Jonas Sultan, to join Pacquiao in training camp.

US Olympic & Paralympic Committee bars transgender women from competing in women's sports

The United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) has updated its policy to align with an executive order signed earlier this year by US President Donald Trump barring transgender women from competing in women's sports. "The USOPC will continue to collaborate with various stakeholders with oversight responsibilities, e.g., IOC, IPC, NGBs, to ensure that women have a fair and safe competition environment consistent with Executive Order 14201 and the Ted Stevens Olympic & Amateur Sports Act," the USOPC said in an update to its Athlete Safety Policy. The USOPC did not respond to a request for comment on the change. USOPC President Gene Sykes and CEO Sarah Hirshland referenced Trump's executive order in a memo to the Team USA community sent out this week, ABC News reported, which said, "As a federally chartered organization, we have an obligation to comply with federal expectations." Trump signed the "Keeping Men Out of Women's Sports" order in February in a bid to exclude transgender girls and women from female sports, a directive that supporters said will restore fairness but critics argue it infringes on the rights of a tiny minority of athletes. The order directs the Department of Justice to make sure all government agencies enforce a ban on transgender girls and women from participating in female school sports under Trump's interpretation of Title IX, a law against sex discrimination in education. Trump's order goes beyond high school and college sports, calling for the US government to deny visas for transgender females seeking to compete in the United States. Trump also said he would not allow transgender athletes to compete in the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028. The executive order instructed the State Department to pressure the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to change its policy, which allows trans athletes to compete under general guidance preventing any athlete from gaining an unfair advantage. The order is expected to affect only a small number of athletes. The president of the National Collegiate Athletics Association told a Senate panel in December he was aware of fewer than 10 transgender athletes among the 530,000 competing at 1,100 member schools. —Reuters

Jinkee Pacquiao thanks Manny's supporters following boxing comeback: 'My heart is full'

Despite Manny Pacquiao's less than desirable results in his return to ring against WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios, his wife Jinkee Pacquiao is still full of gratitude. On Instagram, Jinkee shared photos of their family following the boxing match held in Las Vegas, Nevada. "My heart is full thanks to you all," Jinkee wrote. "I'm deeply grateful for all your love, prayers, and support." During the match, Jinkee donned a maroon one-shoulder sleeveless top and a red bandage miniskirt. She finished off her look with a pair of red pumps and, of course, her signature Hermès bag, this time in the design Sac Faubourg Birkin 20 set in matte alligator black hardware. At 46, Manny managed to finish a 12-round fight with Barrios, with the latter winning the match via majority draw. The Filipino boxing legend may not have won the fight, but his legion of fans worldwide still referred to him as the GOAT (Greatest of all time), including Ruffa Gutierrez. Sylvanie-Imagn Images/REUTERS) Manny Pacquiao turned back the clock on Sunday as the 46-year-old Hall of Famer had a strong showing in his bout against Mario Barrios in their WBC welterweight title match, which resulted in a majority draw. One judge favored Barrios, 115-113, while the two others gave the same scores to both boxers 114-114. As he showed that he can still fight at his age, will Pacquiao return to the ring again? "I think so. God-willing," he said in a post-match interview. "I thought I won the fight."@MannyPacquiao gives his thoughts on his fight with Mario Barrios. — Sports on Prime (@SportsonPrime) July 20, 2025 Pacquiao said the May 2025 elections where he lost his Senate seat also took a toll on his preparations against Barrios. "I know the fans [are] waiting there. I only had two months training. What I need to do is, like, continue my training. In a championship fight like this, I should train [for] four months, three months and a half, so that the fight will be good." "But because of the election in the Philippines, I started late for my training. But it's okay. You know, I love the Filipino people and I love to give honor to my country." Is a Pacquiao-Barrios II also possible? "Yes. Of course," he said. "That's the only legacy that I can leave behind, you know, to give inspiration to the Filipino people and to be proud wherever you are." Pacquiao now holds a record of 62 wins (39 via knockout), eight losses, and three draws. —JKC, GMA Integrated News
