Report: Steelers Tight End Feared to Have Season-Ending Injury

Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. There is a lot of excitement surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers heading into the 2025 NFL season. With Aaron Rodgers now the team's starting quarterback and the other aggressive offseason moves the team made, the Steelers are expected to be a Super Bowl contender. While the team also expects to be a contender, there are still questions that need to be answered. Can Rodgers get back to being a superstar for Pittsburgh? Do the Steelers have enough weapons at wide receiver for him? Will the defense be able to slow down the other elite offenses around the NFL? According to a report from Nick Farabaugh of Penn Live, rookie tight end and fullback DJ Thomas-Jones is feared to have torn his Achilles during Sundy's practice. "Thomas-Jones was seen getting his left foot or ankle looked at, and he had his shoe off," Farabaugh wrote. "Whenever he moved, he could not put any weight on his left leg. He was carted off the field and did not return." Thomas-Jones, who was signed by the Steelers as an undrafted free agent following the 2025 NFL Draft, was a player the team was high on. Sadly, his season could be over before it even begins. During his senior season for South Alabama, Thomas-Jones caught 22 passes for 191 yards and three touchdowns. He caught 27 passes for 235 yards and five touchdowns in 2023. The Steelers have both Pat Freiermuth and Smith at the position. Rodgers will still have two elite tight ends to work with during the 2025 season. Hopefully, if the injury is a torn Achilles, Thomas-Jones will be able to make a quick and full recovery with no setbacks. He has clearly made enough of an impact early on for Pittsburgh to be excited about his future. Expect to hear an official report about Thomas-Jones in the near future. 2027 4-star Edge places Texas A&M in his Top 12 program list

Texas A&M's 2027 recruiting class lost its only commitment after four-star tight end George Lamons decommitted last week, which isn't surprising given the early state of his announcement, coupled with his ascending status as a likely five-star prospect by this time next year. This is just part of the process, and head coach Mike Elko and his staff are ready for any sudden changes. On Saturday, it was revealed that 2027 four-star edge Krew Jones, from Millville, Utah, has placed Texas A&M in his top 12 program list, joining Ohio State, Oregon, Florida State, Nebraska, USC, Washington, UCLA, Tennessee, Stanford, BYU, and Oklahoma. This is early in the process, but after landing 2025 five-star wide receiver Jerome Myles and his high school quarterback, 2026 four-star Helaman Casuga from Utah, the Aggies are beginning to develop a recruiting pipeline in the state. Standing at 6'5" and nearly 220 pounds, Jones is one of the top prep pass rushers in the country, recording 148 tackles, 30.5 tackles for loss, and 22.5 sacks during his first two varsity seasons, including 93 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, and six pass breakups during his 2024 sophomore campaign. Again, this is just the start of Jones' recruiting process, as next summer will include a host of official visits, which could include Texas A&M if the staff develops a strong relationship this fall, similar to when the Aggies landed 2026 four-star wide receiver Aaron Gregory and four-star edge Jordan Carter, who both committed early last October. According to 247Sports, Jones is currently positioned as the 159th-ranked prospect in the 2027 class, the 20th-ranked edge, and the No. 1-ranked prospect in Utah. Yankees Make Shocking Spencer Jones Trade Decision Amid Deadline Buzz

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The New York Yankees seemed bound to be one of the more aggressive teams at the trade deadline this year, and they're already living up to that bill. Over the last week, the Yankees have swung trades for position players Amed Rosario and Ryan McMahon to fill holes in the lineup. But there are still blockbuster moves to be made. The Yankees have been linked to deals for some of the best pitchers on the market, with names like Ryan Helsley, Sandy Alcántara, Joe Ryan, and others finding themselves connected to the Yankees. With such big names on their mind, the Yankees would have to part ways with solid prospects. The top name in the Yankees' farm system right now is surging outfielder Spencer Jones, but there has been ongoing speculation about whether he would be available at the deadline. ARLINGTON, TEXAS - JULY 13: Chandler Simpson #3 of the Tampa Bay Rays shakes hands with Spencer Jones #93 of the New York Yankees prior to the All-Star Futures Game at Globe Life Field on July 13, 2024 in Arlington, Texas. MoreBob Nightengale of USA Today recently reported that the Yankees were open to trading Jones in the coming days. Jones is the kind of prospect it would take to land a controllable ace like Ryan or Mitch Keller at the trade deadline. New York doesn't have a very deep farm system, so it would take a top talent like this to make a huge deal. The issue with this idea is how good Jones has been. It seems as though he's ready to crack into the big leagues right now, though the Yankees are playing it slow. The Yankees have a handful of outfielders ahead of Jones, so it's possible he's looked at as expendable by the team's front office. If that's the case, it won't be shocking to see him traded before Thursday's deadline. More MLB: Red Sox Make Jarren Duran Trade Decision Ahead Of Deadline: Report
