There is a lot of excitement surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers heading into the 2025 NFL season. With Aaron Rodgers now the team's starting quarterback and the other aggressive offseason moves the team made, the Steelers are expected to be a Super Bowl contender.
While the team also expects to be a contender, there are still questions that need to be answered.

Unfortunately, Pittsburgh might have suffered a season-ending injury during training camp.
According to a report from Nick Farabaugh of Penn Live, rookie tight end and fullback DJ Thomas-Jones is feared to have torn his Achilles during Sundy's practice.
"Thomas-Jones was seen getting his left foot or ankle looked at, and he had his shoe off," Farabaugh wrote. "Whenever he moved, he could not put any weight on his left leg. He was carted off the field and did not return."
Thomas-Jones, who was signed by the Steelers as an undrafted free agent following the 2025 NFL Draft, was a player the team was high on. Sadly, his season could be over before it even begins.
During his senior season for South Alabama, Thomas-Jones caught 22 passes for 191 yards and three touchdowns. He caught 27 passes for 235 yards and five touchdowns in 2023.

Pittsburgh should be just fine at the tight end position despite the injury to Thomas-Jones. The Steelers have both Pat Freiermuth and Smith at the position. Rodgers will still have two elite tight ends to work with during the 2025 season.
Hopefully, if the injury is a torn Achilles, Thomas-Jones will be able to make a quick and full recovery with no setbacks. He has clearly made enough of an impact early on for Pittsburgh to be excited about his future.
Expect to hear an official report about Thomas-Jones in the near future.

2024 was a rollercoaster year for San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall. San Francisco took Pearsall in the first round (No. 31 overall) of the 2024 NFL draft, and he was set to be the team's third or fourth receiver on the depth chart as a rookie before he was shot in the chest right before the season started. After a long recovery, Pearsall made his NFL debut in the team's Week 7 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. He went on to have 31 receptions for 400 yards and three touchdowns in San Francisco's final 11 games of the year. Now, entering his second season in the NFL, Pearsall is dealing with a hamstring injury that's limited his involvement during training camp. Still, when he returns, he's expected to be the team's top wideout until Brandon Aiyuk returns from his ACL rehab. On Friday, 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy was asked about developing chemistry with Pearsall at his media availability, and the quarterback took the time to reflect on Pearsall's rookie season. 'In our offense, it's usually steps, timing, you're breaking at a certain angle, and last year Ricky was raw with his talent," Purdy said. "He had it, but he also had to learn our system, our timing, and where I'm throwing the ball. He's got a lot of shimmy, which is great. We need that, specifically against man coverage, to create separation and we love that. But, I think that there were sometimes when he had to learn that he couldn't take a couple more steps and then break out. I need you there now. I need to get the ball out now. We had a couple of those moments and there were times where he took it a little deeper and then broke open. He was like, 'dude, I was open.' I said in the timing of the play, I needed it quicker. "So, we had moments like that, and that's part of getting to the NFL, learning the system, a quarterback and a receiver talking and getting to know each other. I feel like it has gotten better for sure over the last year or so. I think towards the end of the last season, you saw Ricky come out of his shell. He was playing within our system and timing, so he is going to continue to learn who he is as a receiver and what his strengths are and I'm going to continue to learn with him and that excites me. So, I think we've gotten some pretty good work so far and we're just going to continue to chip away at it." Obviously, Pearsall and Purdy need to be on the field together to work on their chemistry, so the sooner the wideout is back to fully participating in practice, the better. Philadelphia Eagles legend Eric Allen officially enters Pro Football Hall of Fame
Former Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Eric Allen was officially enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame Saturday afternoon, alongside Jared Allen, Sterling Sharpe and Antonio Gates. Allen unveiled his Hall of Fame bust with the help of his son, Austin Allen, during the ceremony in Canton, Ohio. During his speech, Allen said it was an honor to wear those Kelly green uniforms and represent the City of Brotherly Love. He praised his defensive unit, the Gang Green, and gave shoutouts to several of his former teammates, including Seth Joyner and the late Reggie White. He also went on to praise Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie and the team the organization put together during the 2024 season, which resulted in a Super Bowl championship, finishing with a spirited "Fly Eagles Fly." The Eagles great spent 14 seasons in the NFL, made six Pro Bowls and was named All-Pro in just his second season in the pros. He was drafted by the Eagles in the second round of the 1988 NFL Draft and played with the team for seven seasons. He later played for the New Orleans Saints and Oakland Raiders. Allen led his teams in interceptions seven times during his stints with the Eagles and Raiders, According to the NFL. According to the Eagles, Allen came in as a rookie from Arizona State in 1988 and started from Day 1 — something no other rookie cornerback had done for the team until Quinyon Mitchell arrived in 2024. Eric Allen ended his career with a total of 54 interceptions, which is tied for 21st in NFL history, eight defensive touchdowns, seven fumble recoveries and three sacks. His 34 interceptions with the Eagles are tied for the most in franchise history. Allen also holds the Eagles' franchise record for the most pick-sixes with 5. Allen's career was also bookended with a couple of iconic NFL games, including the 1988 NFC divisional playoff game between the Eagles and Bears, also known as The Fog Bowl. As well as the Tuck Rule Game, a controversial 2001 playoff matchup between the Oakland Raiders and New England Patriots. Allen was inducted into the Eagles Hall of Fame in 2011. After 19 years of eligibility, Allen was named a Hall of Fame finalist for the first time in 2024, though he wasn't selected that year. He was a semifinalist five times before being elected to the Hall of Fame days before the Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX.

Predicting 49ers 53-man roster before 2nd week of training camp begins
The San Francisco 49ers on Thursday will begin their second week of preseason practices. All of these sessions will be in pads and will likely see the first real separation in the battle for starting jobs and roster spots. Before the team begins its next trio of training camp work, we put together a 53-man roster projection based on the early training camp returns. Most of the practices have been without pads, but there's still been enough information to get an idea of what the roster could ultimately look like. Here is our first guess at what San Francisco's initial 53-man roster will be: Quarterback (2) Brock Purdy Mac Jones Notes: We may see Tanner Mordecai stick around as a third QB. For now our guess is two QBs on the 53-man roster, Mordecai to the practice squad and up on game days as an emergency QB, and rookie seventh-round pick Kurtis Rourke sticking on IR for the season while he rehabs his surgically repaired ACL. Running back (4) Christian McCaffrey Isaac Guerendo Jordan James Patrick Taylor Jr. Notes: Undrafted rookie Corey Kiner could still work his way onto the roster. Special teams contributions may be the determining factor in which player scoops up the fourth roster spot. Fullback (1) Kyle Juszczyk Notes: Ever heard of him? Wide receiver (6) Ricky Pearsall Jauan Jennings Demarcus Robinson Jacob Cowing Jordan Watkins Russell Gage Notes: It's hard to envision Brandon Aiyuk coming off the PUP list any time soon. Keeping him there and giving him at least four weeks into the regular season before he's eligible to come back makes a ton of sense. Gage has put together a nice camp and found his way onto our 53-man to help offset some of the youth and inexperience elsewhere in the receiving corps. Tight end (4) George Kittle Luke Farrell Ross Dwelley Brayden Willis Notes: There's not a ton of certainty once we get past Kittle and Farrell. Dwelley gets the nod thanks to his experience. Don't sleep on Jake Tonges, though. He was with the club last year and flashed some pass-catching chops in the preseason. Blocking is always going to be the top priority for TEs under head coach Kyle Shanahan, but upside as a receiver could separate a tight race for the final TE roster spot(s). Offensive line (9) Trent Williams Nick Zakelj Jake Brendel Dominick Puni Colton McKivitz Ben Bartch Spencer Burford Austen Pleasants Matt Hennessy Notes: Reserve OL spots are wide open. Hennessy is probably their best backup center option. Bartch is firmly in the mix to snag the starting left guard job if/when he returns from a quad injury that landed him on the PUP list to start camp. Pleasants gives San Francisco a swing tackle, while Burford can play everywhere on the OL except center. Defensive line (10) Nick Bosa Mykel Williams Bryce Huff Sam Okuayinonu Yetur Gross-Matos Alfred Collins CJ West Evan Anderson Jordan Elliott Kevin Givens Notes: There's still some stuff to figure out a defensive end with room for a recent addition like Jaylon Allen or a practice squad player from last year like Jonathan Garvin to make their way into the fold. The same goes for defensive tackle where Kalia Davis could still stake his claim to a roster spot. Linebacker (5) Fred Warner Dee Winters Nick Martin Luke Gifford Tatum Bethune Notes: It isn't out of the question that the 49ers keep an extra linebacker and trim the roster elsewhere (perhaps on the D-line or tight end). For now this group is a good mix of special teams contributors with Winters stealing a starting Will LB spot alongside Warner. Curtis Robinson is also a name to keep an eye on. He's still on PUP while he rehabs an ACL he tore last offseason. Cornerback (5) Deommodore Lenoir Renardo Green Upton Stout Tre Brown Dallis Flowers Notes: Six CBs is certainly a possibility, and the back of the depth chart is wide open. Lenoir and Green look locked into starting spots. Behind them everything is up in the air. Players like Darrell Luter Jr. and Siran Neal are potential additions for special teams purposes. Safety (4) Ji'Ayir Brown Jason Pinnock Marques Sigle Richie Grant Notes: Malik Mustapha is working his way back from a knee injury. We've got him starting the season on the PUP list. Without him there's not a lot to work with at safety for San Francisco. Grant got the nod over second-year undrafted free agent Jaylen Mahoney, but Mahoney could certainly wind up snagging that final spot. Specialists (3) LS Jon Weeks P Thomas Morstead K Jake Moody Notes: All indications out of training camp are that Moody and veteran Greg Joseph are deadlocked in their kicker battle.
