Tirupati hosts ‘Yogandhra 2025' to promote month-long awareness drive
District Collector Dr S Venkateswar, Superintendent of Police V Harshavardhan Raju, City MLA A Srinivasulu, Joint Collector Shubham Bansal, and other dignitaries formally inaugurated the programme and participated in a 45-minute yoga session alongside yoga instructors and public representatives.
Speaking on the occasion, Collector Dr Venkateswar said that yoga should become an integral part of everyone's daily life. 'While global interest in yoga is steadily increasing, there is still a need to spread greater awareness about its benefits for both physical and mental well-being,' he noted.
He added that the state government has declared a month-long yoga campaign from May 21 to June 21 to reach all sections of society.
Dr Venkateswar stressed the need to promote yoga in urban wards, mandals, village panchayats, and even in remote areas of the Tirupati district. 'It is our collective responsibility to educate the public about the positive impacts of regular yoga practice,' he said.
City MLA A Srinivasulu said that yoga should not be restricted to June 21 alone, but be embraced as a daily routine.
He shared that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan plan to mark International Yoga Day with a massive event in Visakhapatnam involving five lakh participants.
He also mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the event. 'After Surat's Guinness record in 2023 with 1.53 crore participants, Andhra Pradesh aims to set a new record with two crore people,' he added.
SP Harshavardhan Raju urged people to participate in mass yoga events to enhance the state's prestige. 'Yoga must be made a lifestyle choice by everyone,' he said, echoing the call for widespread awareness.
The event was also attended by SPMVV Vice-Chancellor Prof V Uma, Registrar Prof N Rajani, DRO G Narasimhulu, RDO Rammohan, among others.

‘Police acted as servants of RCB': Karnataka government to HC justifying cop's suspension
BENGALURU: The State Government on Thursday justified the suspension of IGP Vikash Kumar Vikash, who was Additional Commissioner of Police, over the June 4 stampede during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) victory celebrations, before the Karnataka High Court stating that the cops acted as if they were 'servants of RCB' and their 'actions embarrassed the government'. The senior counsel representing the State Government made this submission before the division bench of Justice SG Pandit and Justice TM Nadaf during the hearing of the petition filed by the State Government against the order passed by the Central Administrative Tribunal which quashed the suspension of Vikash Kumar. The senior counsel submitted that the CEO of RCB sought permission. 'However, the police, starting from the commissioner, started making arrangements for bandobust, forgetting that no permission had been granted. The commissioner failed to pass an order refusing to grant permission, as if they had no power. If they have no power, why did they make bandobast arrangements?' he argued. Being the authority to inspect the place, the same was not done to check issues such as the availability of parking, law and order problems in the locality, or whether any nuisance would be caused. Police have all the powers under the Karnataka Police Act, but they didn't do anything, he argued, while pointing out that the CAT, instead of testing the validity of the suspension orders, goes into a fact-finding exercise which it was not authorised to do nor warranted.

Threat to Golden Temple: ‘Be cautious of rumours, won't compromise with security,' says Punjab CM
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday reviewed the security arrangements at the Golden Temple, given threat emails to 'blow it up' and law and order situation across Punjab at a high-level meeting held at his official residence in Chandigarh, and urged people to be wary of rumours. The chief minister held the meeting in Chandigarh with senior police officials, including Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, in the wake of the threatening emails received by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC). After the meeting, Mann wrote on X, 'Today, I had a high-level meeting with senior officials of Punjab Police in Chandigarh regarding the threatening emails received at Sachkhand Shri Darbar Sahib Ji.' 'We will not compromise with the security of Punjab. Our security agencies and the Punjab Police are fully alert. I appeal to the people of Punjab to be cautious of rumours. Religious places of all religions are sacred and revered by us. We are fully committed to their security. Anti-national and anti-social forces will be dealt with utmost strictness,' the CM added. SGPC chief Harjinder Singh Dhami on Wednesday said the apex gurdwara body received five emails since July 14, threatening to blow up the Golden Temple. However, the identity of the sender of the e-mails remained unknown, he said. Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Wednesday termed the threat emails a 'very serious matter' and urged the governments at the state and the Centre to investigate thoroughly and apprehend the culprits. An Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) spokesperson said at the meeting that Mann directed them to ensure robust arrangements to uphold a secure and stable environment across the state. Seeking detailed reports from the officers on the current security scenario across Punjab, the chief minister emphasised the importance of maintaining peace and public safety in the state, the spokesperson said. Party sources said the government was 'mulling a strong action in the Bargari sacrilege case, as the issue was discussed at the hush-hush meeting'. The state government recently tabled the Punjab Prevention of Offences Against Holy Scripture(s) Bill, 2025, in the recently concluded special Assembly session on Monday.

Computer analysis of the 'Kanishka' aircraft's digital flight data recorder (DFDR) gave 'definite clues' of a mid-air explosion before it plunged into the Atlantic on June 23. This further confirms the sabotage theory advanced by aviation circles and strengthened by the hearing of the cockpit voice recorder (CVR) at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre. The analysis of the DFDR tape suggested cracking of the aircraft material seconds after the explosion. Bhopal Tragedy Probe Justice N K Singh, who is inquiring into the Bhopal gas disaster, said the Madhya Pradesh government was not cooperating enough to enable him to expedite the inquiry. He said he was 'handicapped' as the government had not appointed sufficient staff to assist the commission, and the technical experts required to assist in the investigation. He also cited instances when government departments objected to the commission's requirements on financial grounds. Ahmedabad Violence Five persons were killed and more than 20 injured as large-scale violence erupted anew in the communally sensitive Kalupur and Dariapur areas of the walled city, less than 40 hours after the Army handed over control of the walled city to the police.
